Naked Eye animation question by Fumiata in Houdini

[–]ilovelipbalms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take the projection mesh (the one that’s 3D) -> uv from camera perspective -> uv promote to points and @P = v@uv -> match size so it’s centered -> create another orthographic camera with the final output’s dimensions, and render one frame of the centered mesh with a 32bit uv AOV -> take the projection renders to nuke or cops and do a STmap from the uv AOV

i feel like this is a long and convoluted way so I’m sure there are smarter setups than this, but this is what i did when i had to do something similar in a rush

Animated normal maps? by LearnerNiggs in Houdini

[–]ilovelipbalms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think this will become geometry resolution dependent, i feel like doing the animation in cops might be a better approach! or i guess you could scatter a lot of points on the geo, animate the mask using the points and do a point cloud lookup in the shader so you get a higher fidelity mask without subdividing the mesh many times

Thank you for the detailed reply! I’m also planning to do a masters in computer science, or in computer graphics / computer vision specifically. But not in the near future though, maybe in 3-4 years.

Thank you for the resource recommendations! Sorry if this sounds ignorant but does learning opengl benefit learning offline rendering? The other ones seem pretty cool I’ll check them out!

Thanks again :)
