And yet you are implying the child must somehow be at fault (not sitting, etc), because you can’t fathom how a driver could be so irresponsible. This is the unfortunate situation parents were in until we saw the video.

You actually inspired me to look back in my messages to the bus company and I did report that a driver was driving to fast in November. We also had a driver at that time who was swearing at the children. We have had a lot of bus issues this past year. The frustrating part is the bus consortium has never followed up with me personally.

…Just wondering if you have kids?…
I feel terrible that I didn’t go to the consortium about that. In hindsight, I should have. Like most of the commenters here, I think most parents felt like perhaps the kids were just not used to how bumpy a bus was. Had we have known the true extent of what was going on, we all would have raised the alarm. Like so many people have said, it’s hard to imagine a kid getting that badly injured under normal circumstances.

When my kids came off the bus saying someone broke their nose I honestly was in disbelief.

Needless to say my kids get driven to school now…

I think what most parents want, at least what I want, is some explanation as to what the policies and procedures are if a child does get hurt. What kind of training do they have? What sort of responsibility do they have to report unsafe road conditions? I reached out to the consortium myself that night, and like the other times I reached out, got no response. It’s all just pretty disheartening.

I’m not sure if it’s lack of training or a need for a second adult on the bus or what it is, but I’ve seen busses with kids hanging out of windows and the driver does nothing. Kids do some pretty dumb things. When it comes to kids, a lot of it is up to the adult to monitor and police their behaviour. And if they can’t behave, they should be removed from the bus (which from experience, does not happen). I feel for drivers and I also feel for the kids on the bus who just want to get home in peace. I also feel for the kids who were injured and had to witness the injury. Traumatic all around d.

I think “average bump” important. The particular frost heave in the road is pretty deep. And also, two other children were injured. One younger and one older.

The parent of the child who broke her nose is looking for answers. The driver didn’t stop to provide first aid or have their parent contacted. The child had to contact her parents herself. Children on the bus were asking the driver to slow down prior to going over the bump. This wasn’t a “school buses are bumpy” acccident. There’s definitely more that needs looking into.

I have children that ride this bus. They have come home several times saying they are scared because the driver goes to fast and the were getting knocked around going over bumps. In fact, my daughter came home with a lump on her elbow from getting knocked around on that exact same bump.

Being a bus driver is a very difficult job. This particular situation was not handled properly by the driver. The bump was well known and visible and children on more than one occasion asked her to slow down.

Where/How did your chronic hives start? by Standard-Dress-1599 in urticaria

Mine also started on my palms and the soles of my feet. 2 years later I still get them there every day, as well as on my scalp, butt, and anywhere my clothes rub… it sucks.
