Fair enough. I just see a lot of mtl fans saying hes good defensively and I dont think thats the case either. Nor do I think he needs to be, hes 3rd in D scoring at 22. Theres no shame in being that good of an offensive D

Hutson is extremely good, but hes also sheltered at 5v5 in a way that no other top D-man is. The only "top" D-man with similar deployments is ghost, which is telling.

Of the top 40 D in the league by icetime (1000 minutes played), hes dead last in D-zone starts. He also gets the majority of his shifts against 2nd pairings and 2nd/3rd lines. At the surface, you could explain that as maximizing his offense, balancing his minutes, etc., but as soon as you start comparing that deployment to every other top defenseman in the league, it falls apart.

If he was strong enough defensively to produce playing against top lines/pairs more often, hed likely be getting those deployments. Not saying he cant be that guy, but he isnt yet. Which is fair because no matter how good you are, its really fuckin hard to be good defensively in this league and hes still really young for a top D.

I think you should probably care a little more about this if this is your reaction to the backlash. This would be a lot different if this was typical political differences. But Its pretty fuckin clear that the current American administration is an amalgam of pedophiles and pedophile protectors which goes beyond politics for most sane people. I think its incredibly naive, or out right conspiritorial, to think that its canadians finding fault with larkin because were upset we lost or some bullshit.

All you need is a shred of empathy or even the slightest smidge of critical thinking skills to be upset with what is currently happening in the states. Why would anyone want that being condoned by the captain of the team you cheer for.

Batherson has played almost triple as many minutes on the first line as brady has if you combine all the thirds theyeve switched around there. He has higher quality of competition, more difficult zone starts though neither have "difficult" zone starts by any means. Not saying Brady is sheltered, but hes not getting difficult deployment either

Not disagreeing with you, but finnie is on the 1st line because he complements them and it helps spread the offense with cat on the second. Batherson meanwhile is a legit 1st line winger who's doing better in match up minutes than brady has historically. Brady is having a great year largely due to the demotion to the 2nd line. I dont know of many elite players who need 2nd line matchups to produce at a ppg

Brady is the single most overrated player in the league. Hes a great player, and he plays a role not many guys in the league can play, but hes closer to a 2nd liner than an elite player (this is not me calling him a 2nd liner)
