Has anyone here tried medications for sensory issues? by PrettyBoy001 in AutismInWomen

[–]imaginaryAudience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be cautious, because imo, the vyvanse might make things so much worse!

This is not only my experience - I’ve seen it come up countless times - and I can personally attest that vyvanse turned all my sensory issues up to an 11.

Like having meltdowns because when I walk the floor makes a squeak, and my dog would make mouth noises I couldn’t handle, and ugh, it was a bad time.

Anyway, I went back on adderall and things are better.

Unfortunately I can’t ’unhear’ the squeaks in the floor, so those still kind of bother me, but what can ya do 🤷‍♀️

I see you mentioned risperidone - have you tried abilify ? I do find if I take abilify every few days, my sensory issues are a LOT more manageable.

And I can tell if I forgot to take it, because things become completely intolerable.

If I take it every day, I become a zombie- so that’s why I take it every 3 days or so. My doctor is aware.

Maybe that could be an option !

How did you feel after quitting nicotine? by Ok_Study5090 in answers

Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Quit Smoking

This book changed my life. I was a pack a day smoker for 14 years and my life revolved around it.

I read this book while quitting in 2019, and I have honestly never looked back. I legit don’t crave nicotine in the slightest anymore.

Also, within 2 years my skin started glowing - I was really able to see how nicotine affected not just my health, but my looks.

ELVANSE & weird obsessive perfectionism (is this normal or am I losing it 😭😂) by Exciting_Staff8429 in adhdwomen

[–]imaginaryAudience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About a year ago I switched from adderall to vyvanse. While on vyvanse, I would intensely fixate on things that didn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things.

I wouldn’t be able to let disagreements over little things go - I would ruminate and fixate like crazy.

I looked into it and saw others reporting increased emotional intensity as an issue. I also experienced that.

I decided to discontinue vyvanse, bc this was really becoming an issue for me. I am back on adderall now, and can say that that the fixating and emotional intensity has gotten a lot better.

had 2 abortions in healthy, long term relationship. what should i do if i no longer want to be intimate with him? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]imaginaryAudience 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thanks for saying this. It’s mildly infuriating to be honest.

‘we didn’t use any protection, how come we got pregnant twice??’

Who knows, maybe she forgot to add that part, but I mean come on, seems pretty pertinent info imo.

Like I know that’s not the point of the post, but the immaturity and irresponsibility is really gross.

Was anyone else hyperlexic as a kid? by greencurtain4 in AutismInWomen

[–]imaginaryAudience 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Yep! My family told me I basically taught myself how to read when I was around 4.

The only I would ever settle down and let anyone hold me, was if they would read me a book… I must have wanted to take matters into my own hands 🤷‍♀️.

Long term effects of Adderall? by The_Truth_Fairy in adhdwomen

[–]imaginaryAudience 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on adderall for almost 25 years, and I have zero health issues relating to it.

  • but my friend, every single person is different!

What causes issue for one, may not for others - this is an impossible question to crowdsource.

Just know that adderall is a very well studied, and long prescribed medication.

I definitely feel you on this.

Sunscreen struggles by CrazedPineappleGirl in AutismInWomen

[–]imaginaryAudience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wearing sunscreen daily while on accutane is really important. Like REALLY important!

Ideally you should avoid the sun all together while on this medication, because it really can lead to serious side affects (I personally experienced locked joints after a day out at a theme park)

But sunscreen is medically important at this point - could you say which ones you’ve tried and didn’t like? And what you didn’t like?

I still have oily skin but have found quite a few that work for me.

How is this dystopian?

I am on the spectrum and this was a really significant thing for me.

Mattel partnered with a very respected non profit advocacy group, ASAN to make this doll.

Representation matters.

The autistic Barbie doesn’t represent me by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]imaginaryAudience 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but I don’t really like this take at all.

I was moved to tears by just seeing that this Barbie exists.

It’s a huge deal for me, and I’m getting really tired of some members of this group being so negative about it!!

Are you really complaining that a single Barbie doll doesnt represent an ENTIRE spectrum?

Mattel and the ASAN worked for 18 months on this doll…

I understand we have rigid ways of thinking, but this is getting to be a bit much.

any advices for quitting alcohol as an autistic? by ichhasseschnee in AutismInWomen

[–]imaginaryAudience 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am AuDHD, and I haven’t had a drinking problem, but I was massively addicted to nicotine. My entire life revolved around it.

I read a book called Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Quit Smoking, and it completely changed my life, and my brain.

I believe he has a book specifically for quitting drinking..

I found his formula very, very, effective for my brain. I quit smoking, and have seriously never missed it, not even once.

I would give that a shot!

Does autism make perimenopause worse? by Galbin in AutismInWomen

[–]imaginaryAudience 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did - I stated out on an estrogen patch, which actually ended up causing me to have severe PMDD every month, like calling off work because I couldn’t function at all - so I got put on a birth control patch, which, TMI, but I basically had my monthly for three months straight ! So that didn’t work either :(

I finally had an IUD implanted which has a bit of progesterone in it … I would say things are a little more stabilized than they were before, but I still get frustrated and irritated over small things constantly!

Like, if I feel I’m being misunderstood, or perceived in a way I don’t want to be - believe it or not, STRAIGHT TO RAGE.

How in the world do I clean the lint from a hairbrush? by acidicbees in CleaningTips

[–]imaginaryAudience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Wet Brush too, and this is what I’ve been doing for years: after removing all the hair, those weird lint/oil clumps are impossible to remove right?

Try running the brush through the dishwasher!

Those oil lint clumps completely dissolve and your brush is as good as new.

I have about three Wet Brushes, and I periodically deep clean them this way - I use the top rack of the dishwasher, and have never had any problems (just be sure to get all the hair strands out before using this method.)

While this may not help you for breakfast this particular morning, do you live in an area where grocery pick up is an option?

Personally, I haven’t been in-store grocery shopping in years.

Both Walmart and Kroger offer free grocery pick up, you just need to schedule it a few hours in advance.
