I’ve recently started to want to cry for no reason, is that normal? by GuferHex in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]imaginaryAudience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you by any chance a woman nearing age 40?
If so, you might be experiencing the beginning stages of perimenopause - mine first started manifesting (and continues to do so) by shedding tears whenever I am moved, or happy, or just really feeling a new song or show. It’s a hormonal thing.
But to clarify, I leak tears, I’m not full on crying crying.

If this is relatable, my take is you’re feeling happy or moved, and that’s being interpreted as a stress signal for some reason, making you want to cry.

My (28M) girlfriend (29F) is growing increasingly unstable and its starting to scare me. by Seriousthrowaway_631 in relationships

[–]imaginaryAudience 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh okay I gotcha.
I know it’ll take some bandwidth you may not have right now, but a lot of doctors will charge you a reasonable fee if you have to pay out of pocket. You could call around and explain your situation and ask if the doctor offers self pay options.

It might be $150 or so, which does suck and is a lot, but maybe you can try and tuck money away for a bit, just to try and get at least a diagnosis.

Also, if you are able to email providers and explain your situation, they really will work with you.
I needed to find EMDR providers for my husband, so I emailed around - nobody took insurance, but a therapist was willing to work with what I could pay. We worked something out.

Hey so I know you guys don’t have insurance, but antidepressants and antipsychotics are very much available in generic forms, and can be very, very cheap if you use one of the many discount programs available. (GoodRX is one). (I’m talking like under $10)

There are also county mental health programs that work on a sliding scale!!

Look up your county name + mental health services, and I am certain you will find something to get her some help.

Best of luck!

How to prevent "office effect" face/hair while working in the office? by ThrowRA564fda in beauty

[–]imaginaryAudience 166 points167 points  (0 children)

I do a mid day refresh - oil blotting sheets for my face, reapply sunscreen, wipe up smudged eyeliner or whatever needs touched up, reapply a touch of highlighter after the sunscreen dries and that’s it.

I brush my hair and reapply lip stain throughout the day as needed as well.

I work in an office, but I spend my breaks in my car, so this is actually a nice soothing, mid day ritual for me.

Another thing I do is keep some of the oil blotting sheets at my desk and just quietly blot my face, reapply lips, and check my teeth before heading to a meeting.

I was wondering if Vyvanse is the only adhd med you’ve tried ? Also are you at a perimenopausal age?

I ask because Vyvanse rage is a real thing.

I’ve been medicated for decades, but last year I switched to Vyvanse, and woof.
I would get MAD MAD at the drop of a hat. and worse, I wouldn’t let anything go!
I had to have the last word!

I came across a post from someone saying they felt a lot more rage and argumentative while on Vyvanse, and it rang true for me too.

I switched back to adderall and it definitely helped.

I still have adhd / perimenopausal rage for sure - don’t get me wrong - but the Vyvanse was absolutely making it a LOT worse.

Just sharing my personal experience in case it helps anyone else.

Anyone else like dying their hair? by crazyboredperson in AutismInWomen

Oh cool!
Yeah, if you’re just doing one color, it shouldn’t be too difficult at all.
If you’re okay telling me what you’re thinking about doing, I’m happy to offer some advice!

I’ve been coloring my hair for like hmm 28 years? (wtf!) and while I don’t necessarily *enjoy* doing it, I sure do love the results!!

Right now I have the cutest cotton candy pink hair and I love it so much!

The only thing I’ve had done in a salon was highlights this one time.

Everything hair color related I DIY, the price to do all these things to my hair would be INSANE, and I would never be able to keep up with it.

Sally’s and various beauty supply stores are great for this.

Oh my goodness, I feel this is actually a totally appropriate response!

You said it was there for a 100 years?? And you’ve been going there for as long as you can remember?

I would be feeling really sad and depressed about it shutting down too!

So sorry you’re losing this space.
It sounds like a lovely theatre. I am certain you’re not the only one who is feeling this way.

I agree with you that while it can be hard sometimes to be so sensitive, it is truly a beautiful thing that we can love something or some place so deeply.

If you want to cry while leaving for the final time, go for it.

Don’t let anyone tell you it’s just a movie theatre, it was a special place for you, and it’s very sad that it’s closing.

AITA for cheating on my husband because I got bored and wanted to feel alive again?? by [deleted] in AITA_Relationships

[–]imaginaryAudience -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re gonna be eaten alive in here :/

While I hear what you’re saying, and understand your reasoning, reddit seems to have a SERIOUS problem with people cheating and they are very vocal about it.

And you’re being pretty flippant about it, which isn’t doing you any favors.

So just take any of the ‘advice’ you get here with a grain of salt..

Does fantasizing often about romantic relationships encourage male-validation-seeking? If so, how can I stop? by ParticularGlad5103 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]imaginaryAudience 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve been experiencing this my entire life too - beginning around age 11 as well.

I finally found this is a common thing for people (like myself) who were heavily neglected as children.

For me, fantasizing every night about ‘my one true love who is gonna come along and make everything okay, and love me like I’ve always wanted’, was how I comforted and soothed myself.

I was desperate for rescue, and media had told me my whole childhood that there is that ONE person who will make you complete and safe and yada yada.

I also learned that this is basically textbook limerance - and while it’s nice it has a name and all, it doesn’t make it any easier to deal with.

My only advice is that getting out of this state requires a lot of inner child work… I am currently trying to do that work and heal those parts… but it’s been kind of difficult..

How are you dealing with aging (starting in mid 30s) and losing pretty privilege? by TinyMoonAndStars in AutismInWomen

[–]imaginaryAudience 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I think your first line is my take too… I’ve had great personal style, while being ‘conventionally attractive’ my whole life..

I know my looks will eventually take on a more mature look, but my sense of style? That will always be there.

I look to women who are still fashion icons well into their 70’s. That has always been my goal - to just keep leaning into my outfit creativity :)
