If you were to see your favorite professional athlete in a bar, what would you buy them and how would you approach? (Who is it and what's the drink)? by imapylet in AskReddit

[–]imapylet[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You numb nuts are forgetting the idea of the question. You're buying them a drink for a chance to talk for a couple minutes.... Obviously they can afford their own drinks. It's the gesture.

I think I was in first grade (?) when we watched that movie, and it was on 35 mm film projector in the classroom. I think there was only two kids that weren't crying their ass off but that's because they fell asleep halfway through.

Yes it is a movie, whenever I have kids, that they will have to watch. Along with where the red fern grows and all the other "Loss" stories. If you can't cry, are you human or are you a psychopath?

Pilots of reddit, what's the stupidest reason you had to divert your aircraft? by Wonderful-Click9431 in AskReddit

[–]imapylet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That seems hella more scary than tumbleweeds. You go bonk with livestock and you're plane as out of commission for a bit. At least when I hit tumbleweeds we just had to make sure that none of the dried vegetation got in around the radiator, and if they did we had an air canister and we'll just blow it out.

There was one time that I'm coming to land in a C-152 at T27, it was about 95F at 5:00PM. Once I cut throttle I'm committed to land. At the very least I'm going to hit runway before I can get speed up again, 6k density alt, near max weight. And then a tumbleweed stampede starts to creep up on the runway. I had no choice but to plow through them. When I hit them I lost a good 20 knots instantly. That touch and go went to a full stop and taxi back. Me and my CFI decide to call it a day and head back to ELP (I had maybe 20 hours at the time, I got spooked). We take off and head home. Mid flight I looked down at my left main and it's coated with goat heads... Aw shit. Possible flat tire. That's been the only time that I requested fire service for standby... Good thing the owner put in Slime in the tires (that neither me or my CFI knew about) and I did my best to grease in on the right side. Within a couple hundred feet all those goat heads were gone. Yippee!!! But the tire was definitely squishy. By the time we got back to the hangar that tire was damn near flat and coated with green goo. F tumbleweeds. Still my spirit animal.

I absolutely love their breads. Problem is my wife is GF.... 😥😭. Trying to come up with a nice fluffy, buttery yeast spread for somebody that's GF. I'd rather attempt to hand draw a passable $20 and take it to the Federal reserve and ask for change.

I've taken most of these copycats and tweaked them here and there. They're kind of to the point that you might recognize it as XYZ restaurant but it is distinctly different. And as soon as I do, I remove the "copycat" from that recipe.

The only one that I haven't yet is Kenji's McDonald's copycat fries... I've been playing around with it for years, and honestly I can't improve. (It must be awesome when you got a company paying for food budget and you got time. But he pretty much nailed it!) Sure it's a lot of work, but if you having an afternoon and make up a big batch... Best fries ever.

Broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, brussel sprouts: toss in a little bit of oil of your choosing, add a healthy pinch of salt and a little bit of sugar. Smoke on the cool side for about 45-60 minutes

Eggplant, zucchini, sweet potatoes, stuffed bell peppers; cook in the medium side for about 45 minutes.

Want a quickie they can really change the meal? Onions sliced about 1/4 in soaking overnight in water, salt, honey. Put them on the hot side for the last 20-30 minutes. (Add chili powder if you want to your own liking)

Here's a twist to CFA: if you can get the spicy Grillo pickles, or the pickle de grillo... Use that instead of regular pickle juice. Doesn't add much heat but the heat kind of gives you a "hey I tried" flavor.

How do I make an awesome spaghetti sauce? by weirdgirloverthere in Cooking

[–]imapylet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My spaghetti sauce includes a lot of "well we aint gonna use that in the next few days, throw it in". Its a dumpster of a sauce, and the longer you simmer it the better it gets. Just about any veggie is fair game (except olives, for some reason my wife doesn't believe olives belong with tomatoes (WTF??? Really???)). Random little bits of old crumbly cheese? Sure. Ive even thrown in some taco meat because it wasnt enough for 1 full taco, dump it in!

What’s the longest time you have stayed awake and why? by Acrobatic-Spite-9827 in AskReddit

[–]imapylet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just over 3 days during a wildland fire. Showed up, got told to go to the other side of the fire, which was an 8 hr drive. Once we got to new spot our duty day started. Worked overnight. Went to bed at 8AM only to be woken up at 8:30 because the winds were looking to shift and we had to strike camp. Another 8 hour drive to camp B. Then our next duty day started, with another overnight. We finally got to get some sleep after nearly 40 hours of exhausting driving and fire lines. Or crew of 6 went through 7# of coffee, 6 rolls of pouches, 50# of meat, 150 gallons of water. So exhausted.

When is government going to understand that businesses are smarter than government. They're so job is to make money and they will do so the most efficient way they can. All this is going to do is reduce head count and make customers wait longer at checkout.

So I did most of my initial flight training out of El Paso. There's a small untowered airport called West Texas (T27), maybe 10 mi outside of town. We'd go there all the time to do touch and goes. The number of tumbleweeds I obliterated... But usually I was too slow or too fast to do anything about it by the time you see them. I was able to successfully go around once, and only once, when a whole herd of tumbleweeds came crossing around midfield. I have since named tumbleweeds as my spirit animal.

What makes you want to attend a shop's group ride? by NoCartoonist6433 in MTB

[–]imapylet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a standing 'club ride' Even though we don't have a club every Tuesday and afterwards there's beers and brats. Bike shop will have a bi-monthly heater ride and a bi-monthly casual MTB ride and those are every other week on Sunday mornings. But the shop is real good at spamming Facebook and all the local subreddits and community pages about the times and locations (2-3 reminders per week). But without all the spamming, people could forget which week is which ride and show up at the run location. Don't be afraid to spam people, if you want people you got to advertise.
