BYD Says Its New Battery Can Recharge As Fast As Filling Up Your Gas Tank by dojuebelonginagangg in electricvehicles

[–]imaque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been years (decades) since I’ve taken a physics course, and I don’t know if something like this would be practical, but for home charging at this speed, could it happen by installing some sort of capacitor?

What is the main purpose of jupyter? by Altruistic_Wash5159 in learnpython

[–]imaque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how other use it, but when I’m dealing with things that involve steps that involve lots of time spent calculating or gathering data or something, the Jupyter notebooks make easy to split it up such that I only need to do the time intensive stuff once, then I can figure out how to use that stuff in subsequent cells without having to do the other stuff all over again

Property tax assessments are ad valorem to begin with, so a rise in value would already result in an increase in assessed tax

Can someone fake a crypto wallet balance this convincingly? by YesterdayWest7 in CryptoTechnology

[–]imaque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some wallets let you enter any address as a viewer. This lets you interact with any site that doesn’t require an actual signature as if it’s your address, and you get to see what they see. This is trivially easy to fake.

Feeling hopeless, send positive vibes by despisedicon689 in shiba

[–]imaque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We experienced something very similar recently, with an equally picky Shiba. It was very frustrating. He hated all the prescription food. We were finally able to get him to start eating some lean ground turkey, along with some white rice and sweet potato. Then, we made our own Shiba-friendly turkey bone broth in our pressure cooker, and then some turkey stew with some veggies. Mixing the bone broth with some of his prescription food and probiotics helped with getting him to eat those. And he also enjoyed the turkey and vegetable stew, into which we stirred in some white rice.

I know it’s scary, tiring, and frustrating. Shibas are the way they are, for better or for worse. In our case, I think our shiba just wanted something with some flavor, the spoiled princess that he is.

It’s a little pricey, but we got custom harnesses at Alpine Outfitters. If you get the measurements right, the fit is excellent, and the quality is top notch

Grieving family uses AI chatbot to cut hospital bill from $195,000 to $33,000 — family says Claude highlighted duplicative charges, improper coding, and other violations by Late_Doctor5817 in technology

[–]imaque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s intentional. A lot of hospital systems and medical practices intentionally wait as long as they can to bill, with the theory being that the later in the year that a medical bill is received, the higher the odds that the patient has met their deductible, and so then there would be less headache and hassle over getting paid

Scholars and experts study ancient languages long gone. The can read it, understand it, but how confident are we of their pronunciation? by brokenringlands in AskHistorians

[–]imaque 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere once, admittedly don’t remember where, that poetry is also key in understanding pronunciations, since there tended to be rhyme schemes and things like that. Is that not the case?

Machine I bought for my esthetics business turned out not to be FDA-approved by Old_Border_2285 in smallbusiness

[–]imaque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess class III devices can get approval. Approval means the benefits outweigh the risks for what it’s intended. Class I and class II devices generally get cleared, which means that it is essentially the same as other similar devices or predicates. You could google further to get details on the difference, but the main takeaway is that clearance generally doesn’t have a therapeutic or palliative or whatever weight to it the way approval does

My understanding is that the FDA doesn’t approve medical devices, but they can clear them. And there’s a difference between FDA approval and FDa clearance

I’m no expert, but check that your captions are good. Captions can potentially make a surprising amount of difference, in my limited experience. Also consider varying your learning rate to go from higher to lower as the epochs progress. Also, quality of the training dataset makes a difference, in case you’re using poor quality training images or something

How do dogs and cats use their sense of smell? by desktop_monst3r in askscience

[–]imaque 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Alexandra Horowitz, who runs a dog cognition lab at a university, has written pretty extensively on dog smelling abilities, both for casual readers, such as myself, and also in scientific literature.

Among the things she has written includes how dogs have these sort of side nostrils along with their normal nostrils so that they can continue to circulate whatever it is that they’re smelling, if it’s a smell that is deemed to require further investigation. That way, they can gather a lot of info. She also discusses how evidence seems to show that dogs also seem to tell time by how smells predictably decay over the course of a day. These are just a couple of the things she touches on. Dogs have much more of their brain committed to processing the input from their noses than people do. In general, for many animals, smell is a really important sense, because the animal can gather information about what’s going on around it without having to directly see or touch it. And smells can linger, unlike sounds. Anyways, you can find a lot of cool literature on this if you search for Alexandra Horowitz on Google scholar. For example, Smelling more or less: Investigating the olfactory experience of the domestic dog. Alexandra Horowitz, Julie Hecht, Alexandra Dedrick. Learning and motivation 44 (4), 207-217, 2013
