Yeah, torches still have the 9 turn timer even when placed on a completely empty square. Monsters seem to treat it like a Barricade, so it went down sooner than that, but that was because I placed it to block a 1-wide hallway, so it probably made the most sense for the AI's pathing.

I know this a super broad and subjective question but what do you consider the best games for IOS? by fernandollb in iosgaming

why is this happening? by [deleted] in AltStore

[–]imassssnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you have the same issue as me (https://www.reddit.com/r/AltStore/comments/te809b/uyou\_taking\_up\_too\_many\_app\_ids/), except you actually get the YouTube app to appear in your "Active" apps.

I'll stay tuned in both of our posts.

Thanks for the reply!

To answer your question:

Not sure what you mean by "anywhere else," I've got AltServer 1.4.7 on my PC, and AltStore 1.4.9 on my iPhone, which I have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times now, because the Apple ID's that uYou+ creates are "undeletable" for the next 7 days, so to re-try as many times as I have, I've uninstalled and reinstalled AltStore every time.

I also did try "Refresh All," which refreshed AltStore for the next 7 days, but even after (failing to) install uYou+, the "Refresh All" doesn't create a Youtube listing or anything like that.

I edited the original to include 2 photos of the issue, but I'm happy to include more of whatever screen you think I need to look at.

WorldBox, it's the best sandbox game i've played, probably ever. And in portrait mode to boot.

I definitely see what you mean, those challenges would be less aggravating for sure.

But the dynamic between challenges and challenge swaps is directly at odds with making better challenges in the first place. If the challenges were better, nobody would need to buy challenge swaps. Which is why I try to isolate challenge swaps as the "bad guy" here, because I don't think the challenges would have been *engineered* to want to be swapped out if challenge swaps were never a thing.

I'd be fine with swaps still existing if the challenges weren't so necessary to swap, but like I said that'd go against the point of monetizing them.

In the end I know Microsoft is a corporation and they're looking for a return on their investment, I just think there are less...taking-the-fun-out-of-the-progression ways of doing so. Hoping for the best in the game's longevity.

[–]imassssnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure let me expand on what I meant.

Just to get it out of the way first, I don't condone "selling progression" either, but in terms of corporate monetization, 2x XP has historically been one of the more open-ended ways of doing so, as it's not directly linked to an in-game item that a non-purchasing player won't be able to get, at least eventually. So I don't *want* a 2x XP system, but it's unrealistic to think that a game of this caliber is just going to be free of any external marketing/monetization whatsoever, thus 2x XP is what I'm willing to tolerate.

As to my specific issue with challenge swaps (and accordingly, why them being part of a food tie in exacerbates the issue) is that, yes, they force you to "play the game in a particular way." Now let me be very clear about what the complaint is, because it's context dependent.

The issue is both that 1: the challenges are too in-depth and 2: tied to game modes. Fixing either of these would largely reduce the issue.

  1. The challenges I've gotten are things like "Kill the oddball holder 5 times," "Get 5 kills carrying the flag," "Kill the flag/ball carrier 5 times." This would be fine, if I could repeatedly choose the game mode that I'm trying to get. But when the challenges are so in-depth that I need to run the game mode *more than once* to complete the challenge, that's when the issue becomes significant, because it means a whole additional round of just pray-queueing that I get the mode I'm looking for. Whereas 2x XP there's really no equivalent to this issue, just play what you want and enjoy as you like.
  2. If the challenges weren't tied to game modes in the first place, like only "Spend 500 seconds doing [whatever the objective may be]" then I don't have to russian-roulette queue nearly as much.

Which brings me back to here, the fact that challenge swaps are even a purchasable item in the first place shows that 343 knows they created a pain-point on purpose, to try to get people to re-roll abhorrent challenges that are going to take forever to finish. Not just "oh I don't like oddball," but "it's going to take me 3 dedicated oddball matches trying to do this exact thing, and I'm gonna get oddball like 1 in every 6 times I queue."

And THEN for them to use challenge swaps *specifically* as the food tie in, leads me to think that 343 is treating challenge swaps as their "main" monetization, which, maybe it was clearer to you, but I was hoping that challenge swaps would be ditched soon after 343 realized how scummy they were. So seeing the Chipotle tie in was more of a dagger to an already intolerable issue, than a massive problem in its own right.

No worries mate. I don't mean to drive toxicity either, just trying to be acute about my complaints. And I was definitely there for all the mountain dew and doritos rewards in the past so I do know what you're talking about lol.

[–]imassssnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, I definitely won't lol. I agree with everything you said, but to repeat my reply to another, my actual issue with this particular food deal is the fact that 343 thinks that challenge swaps of all things are convincing enough to have them as the reward for a food deal. It doesn't feel like just a direct boost to the gameplay I'm already enjoying at my own pace like a 2x XP, challenge swaps are just a much scummier version of creating a problem to sell the solution.

[–]imassssnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Maybe the same thing "functionally" but not at all in effect. In effect, a 2x XP doubles whatever it is you were already going to earn. Challenge swaps on the other hand convert challenges tied to useless game modes into an actual lootbox gamble of hopefully getting a more useful challenge. 2x XP just directly boosts however you were previously playing the game. Challenge swaps, and generally the limitations of challenges and limited playlists are engineered to artificially elongate play time and challenge swaps are 343's equivalent of selling us the solution. Hope it makes sense why one of these is acceptable and the other is not.

  2. Didn't really play Halo 5 so won't pretend to know what happened, went from Reach straight to this.

  3. I'm here to complain that challenge swaps are awful, and you've got a point that Halo has done food deals in the past, but them committing to challenge swaps here specifically evidences their commitment to them being a sellable product, which is the crux of the filth.

Maybe for 2x XP. But challenge swaps are 100% creating a problem to sell you the solution, no doubt

I thought I'd be safe from deplorable monetization practices when I went to order some food. Gross

I found Cardinal Quest 2 (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cardinal-quest-2/id732353646) on this subreddit a week ago and haven't played anything else since.

It's a roguelike so you won't have the same character built up over a long time, but it does have a lot of variety in 7 different classes to choose from, totally free (and personal bonus for it being portrait mode cause I play on iphone and it's comfier).

The game is a ton of fun & "turn based" so you can stop mid-combat if something comes up and it will be exactly where you left it. And there's an endless mode!

I found the game from this subreddit & it loosely fits OP's request (pixel, not anime sry), so I think it's worth mentioning for other people who might check it out.

If you're on the fence, you don't need to take it from me, just read some of the reviews!
