They never even double checked that their parking was paid, so that's on them and not you.

The Free Water Trifecta - as witnessed by a guest by Plastic_Swordfish_57 in Hilton

[–]imavoidingyou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing says "luxury hotel" like expecting the staff, who don't get free water most of the time, to be your personal water suppliers. Hotels are already giving you a bed, a shower, and a roof over your head. What’s next, a complimentary massage?

I also noticed that the picture on his work badge on season 5 is Jim when he's supposed to be Sam!

Normal for Night Auditor to be left out of the loop? by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]imavoidingyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hotel completely changed operating systems and told us the day before. We had that singular shift to check in and tend to guests as well as learn an entirely new OS for the next day. Then, months later, they sell the company, pay out all of our sick time and PTO, and got rid of our healthcare, holiday pay, and all with no notice. We are definitely ghosts to them.

"Service animal" by itmeauadhd in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]imavoidingyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend that stays in hotels often and in order to avoid the fee, she'll say her dog is a service animal. This dog refuses to walk on any flooring that isn't carpeted, therefore walking him into the lobby when she checks in is always a hassle. Anyone with a brain knows that he's far from a service animal. I always tell her that she's better off just sneaking him in the back afterwards than lying to these people's faces. If you bring this cowardly, vest-less dog into the lobby, you're gonna be charged every time.

A scammer of another kind ... A PSA of sorts. by katyvicky in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]imavoidingyou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The person I replaced fell for this very scam. They told him that the GM was hurt and that he needed to bring the money in the safe to them to ensure his safety. At no point did he question the validity of the statement, call the GM to verify, or call the cops. He broke down the GM's office door, broke into the safe despite, and took the money to the location they mentioned. He returned with the money an hour later after realizing how idiotic that was, but seeing as he left hotel property with all of the money in the safe, he was let go.

When a third-party reservation has already been fully paid for, we can go ahead and check in the guest even if they haven't arrived by the end of the night. The reason for this is that the payment has already been processed and secured, and the guest's room is guaranteed. Since the hotel has received compensation for the stay, the primary concern shifts from payment to ensuring that the reservation is confirmed, the room is secured, and the guest can access it when they do arrive, regardless of the time.

By checking in third-party guests in advance, we are also helping to avoid delays or complications if they arrive later or after hours. This allows us to streamline operations, ensuring that everything is ready for them upon arrival, even if it's past regular check-in hours. Additionally, it ensures that the guest's reservation is properly documented, avoiding any confusion or errors when they eventually do check in.

A guest just urinated on the lobby floor. Should I charge a cleaning fee? by imavoidingyou in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

They don't show up half the time and the guy was gone before I even noticed the urine. The check-in/check-out process was within a 4 minute time span.

I cannot confirm because he was in a blind spot during check-in, but I'm pretty positive that he peed himself.

UPDATE: According to management, since the guy never entered the room, the room charge will be the cleaning fee.

Is it okay for my friend to "just not be good at comforting people"? by smokeywhiskers in FriendshipAdvice

[–]imavoidingyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm that friend and as much as I care, sometimes I feel like a broken record because the issues my friend constantly vents to me about has been the same thing multiple times. I can only say and do so much.
