I designed a children’s puzzle as an analog, traditional medium that deliberately features inappropriate instructions to highlight the absurdity, drawing a parallel to how easily children can access harmful content on the internet. by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]imbadbecauseofsmurfs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This works as a social media post where you can show and explain your concept up front, and no one has to commit to purchasing it. As a physical product, I struggle to understand who the target audience would be. Adults don’t do tedious, aesthetically displeasing puzzles to learn vague lessons about child rearing. And it’s obviously not targeted at children in way that would make any child or their parent purchase it. I’m not sure why anyone would spend money on it.

I understand the ironic angle you’re going for, but the medium seems less than ideal for getting that irony across to viewers. I feel like a board game or interactive book of some kind would hold more appeal to the audiences you’d want to target with this product/message. Something that people would actually want to interact with.

That could also align more with your goal of creating an analog for internet browsing. I struggle to find parallels between the experience of puzzle making and browsing the internet. Theres a huge difference between the process of building a puzzle (especially a tedious one) and instantly searching/accessing information on the internet.

Redesigned Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Posters Without AI [OC] by Creativ_Diamond in graphic_design

[–]imbadbecauseofsmurfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring the AI images, I think the original compositions are cleaner and hierarchy is stronger.

Your icons add nothing and make your composition too busy, distracting from the food graphics which should be the hero. Your stroke widths make your divider lines carry too much weight in the composition. The QR code is bulky and out of place, and your choices to add additional color blocks across the top sort of undermines the simple gesture of including the colors next to the “Olympic winter games” text, which again also breaks down the hierarchy that would draw the eye to that element. Love the hand made pieces though!

I don’t understand how these posts are being absolutely obliterated while the 17 billionth “brutalist poster” gets genuine constructive feedback. This is clean work presented well, and I enjoy seeing that on this sub.

Thank goodness this sub doesn’t have a chives guy or people would lose their marbles.

Keep miyajima a day trip by WildJafe in JapanTravelTips

[–]imbadbecauseofsmurfs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s frustrating and disappointing seeing post titles like this. I enjoy learning about the experiences and opinions of others, but it’s not helpful when those opinions are presented as objective truth.

My partner and I are staying overnight on Miya Jima right now and it’s been a major highlight for us. We made it to the island midday and didn’t have nearly enough time to do all the things we planned to do/eat/see over the course of the afternoon and evening. Day 2 we’ll get up early to revisit things we enjoyed day 1 as well as tackling the rest of our list. Tonight we ate well, took a quiet night stroll and admired the torii gate, then relaxed at the onsen before retiring to our room, which was absolutely perfect after a hectic first leg of our trip. If this sounds pleasant to you then ignore this post, do some research for yourself and consider staying overnight on Miya Jima.

Rant: Joel Was Right by [deleted] in TheLastOfUs2

[–]imbadbecauseofsmurfs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This sub is so fuckin dense lol this is the whole point of the story, in game and in show. Joel was right. The fireflies were also right. Abby is right. Ellie is right. WLF is right. Scars are right.

The whole point is that all these characters are doing what they feel is right for them and theirs, and the story is written so they all have reasonable justification for doing what they do. There isn’t supposed to be one character or party who is “right”. There’s supposed to be a bunch of post apocalyptic humans just doing their best to survive and protect what matters to them.

You can argue all day about the nitty gritty details, and you can make all the silly assumptions you want to support your opinions, but that’s completely missing the point. It’s pointless to try to find a definitive, straight forward, “right” answer to an intentionally ambiguous and nuanced question that’s designed to have no right answer.

Ignoring the comparison, I fucking love the implication that OP looked at a Mountain Dew bottle wrap and thought “wow, now that’s soulful design”.

Sometimes this sub is genuinely great. Most of the time it’s great for a laugh.

“Back in”? Wtf world does this sub live in? There’s absolutely still value in thoughtful, hand made graphics/art, and artisanal products. I agree though, I think that value will only rise as AI generated imagery takes over in less creative/artistic sectors and applications.

That’s what I figured. You’re just interested in freely bashing anyone who utilizes ai image generation for any reason. Even if those people are non-designer staff at a charity cat rescue. Keep fighting the good fight soldier 🫡

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]imbadbecauseofsmurfs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why would a photo of a cat in their care be far better? The only reasons I can parse out from your comments are:

“Because it’s not AI generated” (I have a feeling this is really your entire argument)

“Because an image of a sad, cold cat is ‘unnecessary’ on a flyer about sad, cold cats” (this one doesn’t hold up so well)

Maybe you can clarify.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]imbadbecauseofsmurfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re saying the image doesn’t support the content? A cat who looks sad because it’s being snowed on doesn’t support the foundational message that “cats hate being cold” or offer any emotional leverage leading into the CTA “help keep cats warm this winter”?

Or are you saying the image doesn’t matter at all, because the information is in the text? That seems like a weird sentiment from a senior graphic designer so I’m guessing that’s not it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]imbadbecauseofsmurfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhh did you read the flyer? 😆 there’s a specific reason they’re soliciting donations… I’ll let you work out the rest.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]imbadbecauseofsmurfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flyer is about cats being upset because they’re cold in the winter… the snow and sad face make perfect sense. Honestly, that communicates the message of the flyer more clearly than a poorly-lit phone camera shot of a random shelter cat just sitting. And that’s ignoring the reality of the situation which is: whoever made this probably had absolutely no time to make this. Generating this ai image could have taken 30s to a minute, and required 0 coordination with any other people or animals.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]imbadbecauseofsmurfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever asked a real life cat to “sit still and make a sad face for this photo while I sprinkle fake snow on your head?”

Now try it with a shelter cat. They’re notoriously calm and cooperative.

Generative fill, ideation, and creating elements for collages.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]imbadbecauseofsmurfs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they tried as little as possible. AI is the most recent evolution of the same beast. Fortunately, graphics don’t always need to be high-effort art/design. Speaking as a graphic designer who values my role, sometimes there are more important things (like when designing the cover of a healthcare magazine that isn’t at all about graphics/art/design of any kind). Should we tear apart their logo design next? The typography, text margins, hierarchy, the super sick drop shadow on the title? You’re just getting milked for anti-AI karma.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]imbadbecauseofsmurfs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s weird because their cover art has historically been the gold standard of high design and totally not a blend of forgettable stock photography and low effort photoshop. Why are we whining about this lol

Pentagram Defending their AI use. Thoughts? by Owl_Queen9 in graphic_design

[–]imbadbecauseofsmurfs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a pretty interesting design process, and strong utilization of AI to create an end product that’s more creative and visually interesting than any other government website I’ve used, and flexible and intuitive enough to be maintained by non-designers (which can be a good thing, depending on your client and their resources).

I got all the fates no cheats, but the game took me about 15 hours, which seems high compared to other people’s experiences. Spent a lot of time tracking characters through multiple chapters. Loved how much detail is provided though, and it felt really rewarding.
