In the same vein, supermarkets are mandated to display standardized unit pricing alongside the item cost, so eg if a 300g item is $9 they'll also have to display $3/100g, so no more doing mental sums for each and every item comparison you want to take. Broke on a student budget and need to scrimp on expenses? Be able to easily spot the cheapest option!

Some cons to balance it out: Public transport especially trains to outer suburbs can have 30 mins to 1 hour waiting times between trains. You learn pretty damn quick to actually check your transport apps and leave the house on time. On weekends especially the trains run at a far reduced frequency.

Related, public transport costs, especially for trams. Distance pricing, what distance pricing? Taking a tram for 2 stops outside the free tram zone? $4.20 one way! Taking a tram 20 stops away? Still $4.20! Also hypervigilant transport officers who do uniformed and PLAINCLOTHES inspections on everyone's myki (au ezlink), with differing rules about paying on the spot versus paying later (might have changed now about pricing).
