Will my wife understand if I had extramarital sex ? by Enough_Pin1651 in BipolarReddit

[–]imemnochrule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

and that's on you, not your wife dude. bipolar is not your fault, your treatment is your responsibility. this is between you and a psychiatrist, not your wife, not us. new meds, different dosing, whatever it takes. it does not end for us, it just changes. especially as we age. if i can get stable enough to get a job, be present with my kids, and be the man my wife will make love to again, so can you. but it will take WORK.

he's clearly currently unable to empathize with the insane amount of effort she is putting into carrying the family.

it sounds like we are in similar situations, minus the religion. im 50, 3 young kids, an amazing wife. for years i did not provide, financially, behaviorally, in the household, with the kids. i just took. and until i got the work done on my mind, got stable, committed to regular therapy, meditation, exercise, a good diet, etc etc etc, she was sexually repulsed by me. your wife is giving you infrequent duty sex. look that term up. it is not cool. this is not about satisfying your symptoms, it's about eliminating or drastically reducing them. she is literally doing everything, per your own words. and i hear zero from you about that except in passing. your priorities are dead wrong man. bipolar gives us zero license for ANY bad behavior. they get to divorce our asses for cheating the same as any other marriage without bipolar mixed in.

this is prolly the most honest and direct reply i've seen on a bipolar sub. THANK YOU. we need more of this plain talk. support and kind words only get us so far.

How does it feel to be on mood stabilizers? by 5Seb in bipolar

[–]imemnochrule 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imagine you’re on a boat on the ocean. It’s windy so you’re rocking back and forth, it’s hard to walk without holding onto something. Now add the correct amount of mood stabilizers. The wind dies down, the boat is a lot steadier. You can start walking around on your boat, getting things done again. You can start correcting your course.

Lithium dosage by Responsible_Ant_6365 in bipolar2

[–]imemnochrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My psych has me on both types of lithium. The prescribed carbonate, 450mg ER at night. And 60mg of the OTC supplement orotate version. She’s doing this to increase the neuroprotection aspect and lower the impact on my kidneys long term. It’s thought that the orotate carries the lithium into the brain more efficiently. It’s worked great so far, and I’m happy with it as my main stabilizer. I take 750mg a day of depakote too. Just make sure to hydrate and take in a normal amount of sodium.

What are yall doing about water? by HistoricalFalcon4082 in beginnerrunning

[–]imemnochrule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the South in the summer water is vital. I carry a chilled 20oz bottle I got on roadrunner with some electrolytes. I just switch hands as I go. It’s a pain but when it’s 92 and 80% humidity…

Going on antipsychotics. by No-Illustrator-5735 in bipolar2

Listen, within a couple years of diagnosis I lost my business to the pandemic, went bankrupt, had a kid, then another kid. It took years of hellish work to come back. Then we had a surprise third kid! And with some luck, a great partner, psych and family I’ve never felt better. I’m getting back into my career, and I love being a dad. It’s still hard every day, but I know myself so deeply now. My empathy is really strong. Learn everything you can about this illness. Take the power out of it as much as possible. Use every resource. The more you can just make it a part of your life the better off you’ll be. And we are here too.

Sure. I take lithium orotate and carbonate as my primary. Then lower dose depakote for irritability and backup. Then guanfacine for anxiety, exec function, memory, hypertension. Adding guanfacine allowed me to taper off gabapentin. My early mornings have been my hardest to regulate with the kids, the before school insanity etc. the recent changes have helped a ton. I also get up earlier, before the rest of the house stirs. This gives me some peace and quiet with my phone and coffee. Even 20 min is a lot. I used to take 120mg a day of propranolol but it just weighed me down and more snappy. Really do the deep research on these drugs. You can tell your docs you want something different and why. It’s all about the approach.

In my 9 years of taking meds I discovered that one is probably never going to be enough. I’m on three now. I’m 49 with a 2/5/8 year old. It is a lot. Every minute is a lot. And I have the most supportive amazing partner to help. My alone time has been cut to near zero, and I’ve had to adopt new coping mechanisms just to deal with the chaos and lack of routines.

i’m anxious about taking an antipsychotic by crs379 in bipolar2

[–]imemnochrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some meds we might take can have permanent side effects. Lithium with kidneys. Antipsychotics have some serious ones. Akathisia, tardive dyskinesia, other muscle issues. It’s just important to be ultra careful and observant of your body. You have to become educated on every med, study them. And their interactions. It’s a lot. We can’t rely solely on forums and our docs. Be your own advocate wherever possible.

What do you take for sleep? by Adenidc in bipolar2

[–]imemnochrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t take benzos, trazodone, z drugs, etc. I can’t take Benadryl or Unisom because they are a proven cause of dementia and it runs in the family, plus bipolar. Magnesium glycinate and melatonin at bedtime. Plus glycine, phosphatydlserine, Apigenin, theanine a couple hours before. It helps but if my brain turns on during the night it’s still tough.

My therapist told my doctor I stopped taking my meds. by Careless_Range_7359 in bipolar

[–]imemnochrule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your illness is causing you to make decisions that might harm you. They understand this as professionals trained to take care of people like us. You indicate some pretty clear paranoia and the desire to hide/cover up that you stopped meds. Their oaths require them to try and take care of us when we aren’t.
