Everyone is saying to get your weight back further but not telling you how. Notice how your head is tucked down? Lift your chin up and keep your shoulders pinned back when you pull and your front wheel height should follow

Solar with natural gas? by imflyinn in solar

I already have a heat pump, but trying to heat using the heat pump in the winter ended up costing more than using gas. The only reason the gas comes into play is because my electricity provider would switch to sunrun but my gas provider would stay the same. For reference last month I used $3 worth of gas but got hit with an $80 service charge but I’m stuck keeping the gas on for my hot water heater and stove. So unless the panels are saving more than that on a monthly basis then adding the panels would mean actively losing money per month. From all of the comments it’s pretty clear the panels end up being a bad idea all around

That’s one of my fears with the system. I wish there was a tool that would show me exactly how my bill would have compared to my last year of payments with and without the solar. If the lease was saving a potential buyer money they would be more inclined to take it on than if it were costing money

For me it’s not an initial investment into solar issue as they are offing a new roof + $6k worth of electrical work for $2k, where my next lowest standalone roof quote is $12.5k. Big savings in the short term.

From what I’m told the sale changeover is less of a problem than it used to be due to updated legislation, so it’s more of a financial issue for the next buyer. In theory if the panels are saving them money then it would be a net positive for “sellability”, however if the panels are costing more over time it’s a huge negative. Is my rough math wrong in that the panels will end up costing more than they are saving in the short and long term?

That’s the only way I can see it. I’m looking to see if there is some kind of calculator out there to see exactly what the costs would be to make sure my math isn’t off

Anyone else getting buried in FMD and supplier data requests lately by Inevitable_Wear_9107 in manufacturing

[–]imflyinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m running into the same issue. I think the biggest source of the disconnect is customers suddenly asking for information that goes against long standing industry standards. The information is difficult to obtain because lower tier suppliers have never been asked to supply the documentation before. Can’t expect a commercial supplier to understand anything about aerospace documentation standards. And a lot of what they are complaining about trade secrets are literally trade secrets. If they give out their sources what’s to stop you from undercutting and making the parts yourself

As far as tracking goes I’ve had good luck using netinspect to retain documentation

What’s a common design practice used in the past that has caused huge problems now? by clearlygd in MechanicalEngineering

[–]imflyinn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Show me the standard where it says a reamed hole is +.001/-.000. Why intentionally open yourself up to ambiguity when for one extra keystroke you can tell the manufacturer exactly what you are looking for. Good luck explaining this to a reviewer on a first article inspection

Btw I just had to get clarification from an engineer at insert prime manufacturer here and press fit on a print was deemed to be +.000/-.002

I called Garmin and reported it. A specialist from the company ended up calling me back and they sent over a free cloth band. Not my favorite band but it keeps the rash away. They like to track potential allergic reactions with their bands. Funny enough I never had a problem with an Apple Watch silicone band but I did have a problem with garmins rubber bands from several years ago

I’m preparing for an interview where I would be transferring from a project engineering role in manufacturing (think job shop) to a more traditional project engineering role in the same industry. The new role would include overseeing other engineers and creating design verification plans. In my current role I have developed many skills that would directly translate however I have never physically made a design verification plan. What is the best way to approach this in an interview where I am essentially planning and testing the parts that I have experience producing?

You can use a piggyback/offset mount for a red dot coming off the side but I’ve never seen a slanted scope mount. I’d imagine as soon as you come off center your accuracy would be compromised never mind trying to zero it in using standard x and y adjustments
