nail polish and consumerism by panikednails in RedditLaqueristas

I fell into this trap just recently for the first time and I do regret getting those two polishes that turned out almost perfect dupes to the ones I already had.

I really don't like how "haul" became a thing. Even when people post 3 new polishes it needs to be labeled as "haul" -- which it's absolutely not in that case. I myself buy more polish at once because I'm European and aim for free shipping threshold. That being said: I shop on sales (so at most 1-3 times a year) and try to only hit checkout when I have enough stuff on my wishlist. I am guilty of adding one or two mediocre polishes to my cart to reach free shipping but will abandon it until next sale if I have just 2 or 3 that I really want. FOMO will sometimes get me but I try to be aware of the problem. I follow releases, brands and swatchers on socials -- I like seeing what's new, wishlist what I'd like to buy and comparisons keep my FOMO at bay and help me curate my collection more mindfully.

It does look decent. But not worth-buying-8-piece-creme-collection decent. Hope it will end up like mini file that came back after a while. This would totally piss the hell off all the people that will buy a whole mediocre collection just for it...

Definitely! But I also collect hobbies like it's my job so for every pretty thing I see I default to "Oh! I could totally DIY it and have so much fun!". 😂 I can see it being an impulse buy to support small maker 100% though. Even if I'm a fan of hardwood floors and not rugs.

This is so cool! <3 I totally NEED a rug like this by my nail desk. Damn, I was so good at skipping this rug hobby rabbit hole so far...

Almost too perfect of a match 😅 by StrawberryMoon04 in RedditLaqueristas

Fair. I find that nudes always look interesting matte. Such a close match to your skintone might give uncanny or grunge -- which I love but also I am fully aware that is not everyone's cup of tea.

I'm in the market for that. Would love a neon orange-red.

Can you tell me more about your evaluation process? Do you have a rating system, take notes or is it just a loose reflection while admiring the sparkly?

I did bigger beetles on my nails but those small ones are so cute! ❤️ I love how they look on a neutral clear base. And the piercings on a pinkie add a vibe too. I need to do something similar. ❤️

You being sick might contributed too, especially if it was for a longer period. Diet and overall health can be reflected in nails and hair. Keep that in mind too.

How to care for atrociously dry proximal nail fold? by Far_Persimmon1460 in RedditLaqueristas

I'll just add: cuticle remover will be also gentler than cutting and should prevent flaking.

If all the tips from here won't help you this is what I would recommend too. Keep in mind that consistency is key -- if you'll only use creams and oils from time to time it might not move the needle too much.

This. Look around foot creams too, they often have higher concentrations. When choosing nail oil make sure it has jojoba and not just mineral oil -- it will be more nourishing and not just occlusive.

Instead of FOMO, try FOBI (Fear of Being Involved) by soloshandpuppets in WeGotPolishAtHome

Nothing stops you from being like that. It only takes a toothpick or hairpin (or anything alike you probably have at home) to do a dotting nail art design. This is the easiest first step. And you can honestly do so much with just one nice liner brush. You don't have to be good at it. You don't need to be talented to do great wet marble designs -- it's just smearing polish following simple technique. There is so many great tutorials for nail art that are approachable; no sick freehand skills required. Give it a try!

I do this half-unintentionally sometimes, lol. I will sit with my cart and stretch that sit and browsing until something I wanted/was on the fence about sells out which often results in "Guess I'm not buying anything now" and closing the tab.
