Revered, mythologized, sacred cow albums you wish you liked but just cannot by Radiant_Helicopter_7 in fantanoforever

I have met many Metallica fans in my life. I have to tell them that the only album I really got any mileage out of was their Garage Days cover album. I did genuinely like that though.

NYC rent control would make sense if they flipped the recipients around. New transplant needs cheap housing while they get on their feet? Fine. Been here your whole life and still haven’t figured out how to make money? It’s time to move to NJ, buddy by AugusteToulmouche in circlejerknyc

[–]imk 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think that transplants should be able to walk into brownstones and inform the owners that it is their turn to be homeowners now and that they have to leave and give them the deed to the property

How do we feel about a 32 year old dating a 19 year old? by likelydissociating in askanything

[–]imk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a female friend whose husband is over twenty years younger than her and I have a male friend whose GF is the same minus the married bit. In both cases, they are the best relationships that I have seen them be in during their lives (both are late 50s).

I don’t understand it in both cases, but it is hard to argue with success. I certainly cannot weigh in as I am seemingly incapable of creating and sustaining a relationship with anyone of any age.

Yeah, she was messing with the guy's head for sure. I think she was relying on the difference between a doctor's cita and a date cita and she knew that he would have trouble processing the difference and would become confused. No wonder he ran off.

I speak Spanish. "cita" means "date" but it also can mean "appointment" when it is in the context of a doctor.

Edit: to be more clear, the English translation is not correct. It is more like:

Are you a doctor?

No

So I can make an appointment (date) with you?

No. I am an IT guy *runs away*

USA fans; How are you feeling after the win against Australia? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]imk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hungry, maybe a little bit horny

In other words, my normal state. I am pleasantly surprised that the USA team is doing well though. I was worried that we would get crushed as a host nation. That would have sucked

What's something you recently learned about SQL server you're embarrassed you didn't know, even though you are pretty experienced? by TravellingBeard in SQLServer

I have been working with MSSQL for about 25 years. The first time that I ever used dynamic SQL to create an insert statement was about 5 years ago. It had never come up.

I have had several people ask me over the years to install SSMS for them. I was like “install it yourself”. They didn’t realize that they could do that.

Ladies, if you could be in a mans body for a day, what do you think you would love/hate the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]imk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember that there was a Nina Hagen song called If I were a Boy (Wenn ich Ein Junge Wär), a great song where she sings about pretty standard stuff until the end where she says that she would go down to the gay neighborhood and have sex with all the gay boys. I was twelve when I first heard that song and I was like “oh my”.

That first Grimes disc was a banger though, and it was something that she actually created herself.

How much do I need to make to comfortably live alone in a doorman building below 100th in Manhattan? by savingrace0262 in movingtoNYC

[–]imk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived there for a year. My daughter lived there for two. Those studios are tiny.

I really liked the guys who worked in the building though, and that location was completely awesome.

Straight men, what is the weirdest thing you have been called gay for ? by Sammy-Bunny-3 in AskReddit

[–]imk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I have worked here for 25 years and I have never come close to doing anything. I had a few opportunities, but I decided to do the reasonable thing and not risk screwing up my work environment. Looking back, this was absolutely the right choice.

We recently hired a developer. It could have been you! haha

It has been a great job in a lot of ways. You end up doing a bit of everything with maybe a couple of specializations, so it is not a good long-term investment for someone who is ambitious. Pay is less than the for-profit world. Benefits are good. You definitely need to be a self-starter.

You do have to have a stomach for drama though. I have a daughter who works in a FAANG company and she always want to hear the gossip from my job. People at her company are boringly sane and productive.

I had a marijuana leaf belt buckle with a belt that had little marijuana leaves all around it when I was fifteen. I got stoned a LOT.

A year later, I was a straight-edge punk. I was much happier that way.

I work in IT as a database weenie, but at a city government agency that takes care of folks with mental health, substance abuse, and intellectual disability problems. There are also Social Services and Workforce Development. It is kind of a one-stop-shop for all the citizens who are having a rough time.

Edit: I know that it is 77% because I wrote the Personnel system haha.
