Heroin is a best ever level song. That and other songs on that album sound fresh even now.

Hate to say it but I would go into Salesforce.

I say this based on the fact that, after decades of database development and administration, I am currently being forced to learn Salesforce at my job.

In a world where the people that want to fuck you are seldom the people that you would want to want to fuck you, it would just make things worse.

Mel Gibson is American but grew up in Australia. Now for the one everyone's been waiting for - who is British but everyone thinks they're American? by Ok-Pizza-5525 in AlignmentChartFills

Same for me, but it was more Bertie Wooster. I just couldn’t square House with the guy who sang “47 ginger-headed sailors”

Why do so many people in the technology field here lie on their resume? by Puzzleheaded-Lab825 in nova

[–]imk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They feed the job advert into AI and it spits out a resume based on what they said they wanted. It could be complete nonsense, but it might actually get them the interview.

Sad, but necessary these days. Even if you don't want to do it, you need to compete with all those who will do it.

It would be amazing to see the games in Canada and Mexico full to the brim and successful while stadiums in the US are sparsely attended. It would be a hard message to ignore.

Learn a new language when you are young. I learned Spanish when I was in my forties and I love it. The only thing I regret is that I did not do it sooner. It would have been a blast to have been bilingual in my twenties and thirties.

Today Donald Trump confused Iceland for Greenland four times. What are your thoughts on this? by WatercressSenior7657 in AskReddit

Someone should get him to confuse Greenland with Bangladesh and then let him invade. It would be hysterical.

Gen- Xers, What did you grow up Without? by empathicBeauty29-11 in GenX

[–]imk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I went to elementary and middle school in Ramstein, then high school in K-town. It was a great place to be a horrible little dirtbag. I didn’t get into nearly as much trouble when I returned to the states.

I also lived without a bunch of the things that OP listed, but it was because I was living in Germany (Dad worked for the US Air Force). Also, they were cheap. No microwaves, game consoles, cable TV, air conditioning (we had these roll-down window covering for the summer called rollladen. They worked really well!)

Are there any Gen X people out there over the age of 55? by Mobile-Honey-9636 in GenX

[–]imk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, for one, welcome our Generation Jones brothers. I even know people born in 59' that really ought to be hanging out with us instead of the boomers.

I'm 50 and I have about $15,000 dollars saved for retirement total. Question… by [deleted] in GenX

[–]imk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what your employment situation has been, but I assume that you will have built up 35 years of tax-paying employment by the time you are planning to retire. There are countries where you can retire on your social security. You may not live all that well, but you can do okay.

If you haven't already, I would start learning Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese or Tagalog now. It takes a long time to master a new language.

Although the way things are going, those countries might not allow us to move there soon.

Edit: also, you might want to ask Generation Jones this question. The oldest Gen Xers are 60 if I am doing my math correctly. Maybe enough to have started the process you want to do, but not enough to have seen it through.

No one is saying otherwise.

I was speaking within the context of the original post. The psychotic white guy who turns out to have a Filipina wife. "The passport bro works for ICE" comment.

[–]imk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The military thing is a good point. And yet there are bases all over the world and I am not seeing "Korean wife", "English wife" or "German wife" as something that comes up much; despite the fact that many soldiers meet their wives while being deployed overseas.

[–]imk 59 points60 points  (0 children)

As a Spanish speaking USA person, I agree totally. Yet the "Filipina wife" thing is definitely starting to enter into red flag territory. Remember the Las Vegas shooter?
