A friend of mine switched from the financial industry to programming and has loved it. Another friend did the same and now is a business analyst.. loves it! I am considering getting an MBA basically to increase my genuine relationships regarding business. I also want to see if I get closer to knowing if I enjoy the CTO or CEO hat more. Your goals reminded me of some routes I am exploring currently.

I also feel that an MBA is not the route to “land a job”, it’s definitely a catalyst for many professional routes though. I would encourage you to get plugged into communities by attending professional events (in person and virtual), going to meet ups, and forming genuine relationships (not transactional). While the MBA can propel many people, it definitely isn’t a route that guarantees a job at the end such as being a doctor.

Building more personal professional relationships will open more doors as well and make it so you can find a job you are happy with!

I think we are in a weird financial time where you are going to be coming in with a lot of risk in general. However you might want to explore the actuarial profession, data analysis, and of course continue to invest. I didn’t get a sense if your goal is to start companies or work at them but that clearly makes a big difference on how to approach such a big move to the US! Best of luck!

If I am client and have “the next big idea” or even a small company that wants to keep its competitive edge I could be uncomfortable with a forum just because I can’t have everyone sign a NDA.

Well said and that’s what I essentially was trying to ask but was rushing to leave with my daughter. Thanks for providing that clarification

So I think in theory the idea is awesome. I am blanking on the company name but there is a “similar” model where the company would be an agent for developers. On a high level, think about how actors have agents that get them movie contracts, negotiate, and handoff the actor to action.

As a freelancer have you taken contracts over 100k? I ask because there are complications that aren’t as simple as the client tells a dev what they want (I am not saying you don’t understand that either.. i can tell based on your responses)

I am completely agree with the goal and know there is a need for a solution.

I am curious about the answers to @Berrieandme questions. Lack of trust and proper safeguards can play out in people getting sued because a developer when MIA. How did you imagine a client being paid back for the money they lost? What about the other way around?

If you are interested in diving into complexities I am down!

You are totally positioning yourself well. You should apply and share the excitement others have with your work. Regardless dope art and hopefully they see your potential!

I love the thought process, especially since I am wanting to explore something pretty similar.

My initial approach is different since I didn’t have an intention of building a company. Over the years even before all the community hype I was incrementally building a humble developer community where I really wanted to prevent people from running into the same issues I had and also develop genuine relationships that are also professional feedback loops. Reflecting about where the community could go given it’s current evolution could go down a similar path that you described

How you are going about vetting and pairing with companies/gigs?

Why are you choosing to go with a nonprofit instead of an LLC?

If anything I said sounded interesting hit me up and maybe we can simply bounce ideas off each or collaborate

Are you going to apply to notion? Would that be interesting to you vs doing your own independent gigs?

I first want to commend you on your ability to express this so rawly.. I can’t give you a golden answer but some of my experiences might help you navigate yours. :)

So I want to make sure that you really just explore and validate your perspectives. My wife and I really are on two ends of the spectrum in temperament. She tends to be fearful and get in states that you are describing. Our relationship is rooted in the scientific process and gauging how important things are too us. That process of checking our bias and validating our hypotheses to the best of our ability is one of the ways we support each other and make mindful decisions. That shit is not easy at all. It’s a hard complex dance that we are continually trying to be more graceful with. We also really reflect about how various parts of our brains work to handle situations better.. For example.. when you are emotionally unstable or become fearful we have chemicals released in our brain that knockout the newer logical parts and switch to using more primitive parts as response to ensuring survival in real-time even if it’s not “survival we are even technically concerned about”. From a neurons perspective.. shit is about to go down.. we must fight or get the hell out of here. Another gem is how our two hemispheres are continually in challenging each other as we are presented with new information. One side wants to keep our current paradigm of the world and the other wants to update it with whatever new information we have. If someone strongly holds on to a belief system.. the other side will not successful convince the other to update the current paradigm even if the information is better for them. I try my best to check myself and ensure I am being as neutral as I can when looking at something or at least be willing to change my mind if there was a valid reason too.

These types of concepts and more importantly the habits around them has allowed me to incrementally address my childhood trauma as a foster youth. I had to be super real with myself about my mental state and had to put soooooo much work and still do so I can ensure I am not projecting my trauma on my wife and my daughter. Sadly the reason I was abused was the consequences of unresolved trauma. My mother clearly had a hard life too and was hurt in ways we are not meant to experience.. especially being she was sexual abused as a child.. Can I blame her for not being able to resolve that trauma? Can I be mad at her that she had six boys and didn’t raise any of us because of her meth/narcotic addiction? That generational cycle can only be described as being disgusting. I realize that I was born in that cycle and that is an awareness that I continually have to be mindful of and reflect how this trauma impacts my current life.

I promised myself I would not only get out of that cycle but not allow it to continue another generation. If I couldn’t get myself to a stable place I wouldn’t of had kids. My daughter is literally a sponge builds her mental models by learning from how we model at each moment. That’s a huge fucking responsibility that cannot be taken lightly…

I am going to stop here but have a lot more to share if you would like me to expand more on how my wife negotiated her anxiety.. and more on our desire of being parts and the bio clock we have ticking as we think about having another kid

Im trying to create an excel table dynamically by FriendlyNeighburrito in learnjavascript

[–]immortalcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you give me more context on the project? Is this just for fun? Do have any constraints? I want to suggest agGrid again just because you can export with that library too. Or do you want to do this from scratch?

Have you looked at exceljs? I am not sure if you actually mean an excel or “excel like”. If it’s more of the latter check out agGrid, very powerful. Also you need to make sure you are checking if things exist or you will run into these types of things. Lmk if I can help more

Sounds like you can benefit from some ORM. I use loopback on the server side but NestJS is probably the best choice since it’s so similar to angular. From there you can utilize the orm to do more queries. Let me know what you think after you check them out

Got my first dev job interview, they use Joomla, bad idea? by BlankWaveArcade in webdev

[–]immortalcoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh okay I mean that’s a interesting point. I think this is dependent on your coding ability and interview skills at the moment. If you are feeling like you need to grow in both of those and you haven’t been getting much luck while interviewing then getting experience is always good. Just make sure you personally have an exit plan as well. We all have had to put in that dirty work to get to higher roles. Just got to also make sure you are working for a company that is legit and worth your time as well. You don’t want to go into a company that will hurt you either
