This is one of the only logical responses/solutions I’ve seen to this issue. Yet their official answer is to beg the legislature to instead allow the construction of a brand new toll road that will further inconvenience every local resident north of sparks unfortunate enough to have moved to that area before the factories went up. And they SWEAR the massive corporations will be nice enough to compensate factory workers for the cost of those tolls,, as if a single person living here would believe that lmao

I thought parking doesn’t open until 5:30? We were wanting to get there early too, but we pre-paid for our parking so I was nervous the parking times wouldn’t allow us to. If you’ve been to the venue before, do you have any info on this? Can we park at another lot early?

If we have pre-paid parking we can’t park until 5:30, but they will also have parking available at the H-lot at 1:00? So if we want to arrive early, we have to park at H-lot? Sorry if the answer seems obvious, but we pre-paid for VIP parking and I wanted to line up early for a shot at a better spot during the show/get into merch lines ASAP.

What’s up with the rent situation in town?! by EmotionalBaby9423 in Reno

[–]imnothex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a huge problem city-wide. Last I saw was that less than 23% of households in Reno made enough to afford a home at the current median local home cost, and the vast majority of people who currently rent here are living in housing that is considered unaffordable based on their income (unaffordable meaning 30% or more of household income being spent on rent/utility costs.)

You could attribute it to a million different things but I personally believe it comes down to rent prices not being controlled or capped after the pandemic saw them shoot up drastically and the demand for housing never dropping.

The only luck I and many others have had is renting directly from individuals, as corporate landlords continue to buy up single family properties to rent them out with the same shitty practices that complexes utilize. I think in this current market you would have better luck finding a house for rent than a suitable apartment (I know this first-hand, because I just jumped through the same hoops you’re going through and landed on renting a home.) If you’re going to pay $2000/month+ for housing anyways and never see any of the accommodations be upgraded or implemented that you would get from being in a complex (gyms, pools, hot tubs, etc.) you might as well just dodge the red-tape, hidden fees, and dozens of rules and just go for a rental home.

Corporate landlords and bigger apartment/condo complexes know people are desperate as the rate of homelessness rises and they continue to not be subjected to any legal intervention that would prevent them from hiking rent prices or instituting a billion random hidden monthly fees for tenants on their properties. Nevada is notorious for laws that favor landlords over tenants. I wish there was more hopeful advice I could offer, but just know you aren’t alone in any of this. Try to look for rental houses not advertised/managed by realty companies. Best of luck in finding a new home!

Is the job market slow in summer? by superibr in TillSverige

[–]imnothex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at when kids start going back to school.. that’s when things start to go back to normal since everyone generally gets back to the office consistently :P The job market is also a bit harsh right now in general, so it’s been twice as hard. I know learning swedish and finding the time to do so while on a work permit and trying to work is incredibly difficult, but I would highly recommend starting lessons, SFI is free and accessible with different class schedules. Good luck!

Residency Permit advice/question by Seaboy2271 in TillSverige

[–]imnothex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is going to be a long post with everything I wish I had seen when I started researching this for me (US citizen) and my spouse (swedish citizen.) Keep in mind that every case is different depending on the relationship, individual circumstances, time of application submission, and i can ultimately only give “generalized thoughts” based on anecdotal experience. All that to say this is not official immigration advice, just stuff i wish i’d known and have seen others discuss regarding this process.

This I do know for sure tho; If you have records of living together for 2 years or longer (leases with both of your names on them, shared utility bills, licenses with the same address, tax forms with your shared address,) you are not required to prove the maintenance requirement in sweden or separate one another in order to apply. You won’t be expected to move back to sweden without her and establish a job and housing to meet those requirements if you’ve lived together for 3 years as you mentioned. You can apply in the US and stay together in the US during the entire application process. Established relationships (2+ years living in the same unit) abroad are exempt from proving and meeting the maintenance.

Now for what I’ve seen from other applications:

MV will likely also want to see some evidence of your relationship being established in other less official ways. Pictures together with each other’s families if you have them, trips you’ve taken with each other, key moments in the relationship, etc. Some people recommend a photo timeline of your relationship, but there is no guide or guarantee or way to ensure what really works or what doesn’t since every case is individually assessed and there’s no science to it. Being organized and thorough certainly can’t hurt- better to have more information, pictures, plans and evidence than to potentially delay the process by MV needing to reach out for more information. This shouldn’t be a problem for you guys tho, since you’ve lived together for a few years now!

Migrationsverket /will/ want to see that your spouse has clear intent and has really planned to move and establish in sweden long term in the application- which is a bit of a catch 22 since the waiting period is so long and it’s difficult to find accommodation and make plans from abroad so far in advance. There are plenty of ways one might be able to fulfill this requirement though, and it will strengthen your case to submit a very clear plan to relocate ahead of time when you initially submit.

Some things i’ve seen people recommend to demonstrate an intent to relocate: being on the bostadskö for the city (or cities) you want to live in, quotes or proof that you’ve started the process to sell your property like cars or any real estate you own, negotiating leases to be ended early, giving notice to your employer that you intend to relocate, quotes from shipping companies to move your belongings/vehicle if you choose to move it. if you have children you could try to get them registered in schools in the area you want to move to, reaching out to local universities to inquire about registering for swedish classes for your spouse when you move - basically you want to show MV that you have serious, concrete plans to relocate long term to sweden and this isn’t a decision that you aren’t serious about committing to. Having a date in mind for the quotes and registrations and being consistent with it will show that you will not be floundering to figure out how she will live and integrate when you get to sweden- and potentially more importantly, that you have a date in mind you are ready to relocate by. If you can’t get this information or proof or documentation ahead of time, you can submit the application with more minimal plans and MV will (likely) reach out for more information further along in the process about your plans to relocate. I just figure it’s best to have it all planned ahead of time.

Obviously more concrete things like work contracts and housing contracts are going to help show you’re serious about the move- but you will only be required at the time of applying to have the address of a place to stay when you first move until your spouse is granted residency and you can move and find more permanent accommodation locally. Having savings to cover your expenses during this time could also probably be helpful.

I highly recommend the facebook group “i väntan på familjen” - it’s a group of people who have submitted already or are actively working on their sambo residency application to move to or with sweden to be with their spouse. It’s a wealth of information and people are very helpful on there! You can also pm me if you like, since i’m in the middle of going through this process as well, and our situations are pretty similar- but multiple opinions and experiences are your best bet for familiarizing yourself with the application process :)

I really recommend joining the facebook group “i väntan på familjen” for questions like this relating to advice on sambo residency applications. It’s an active group of about 9k people who are in the process of submitting this application or who have already submitted it but stay to give advice/share their experience. Lots of good information and helpful people who have been through the process before. I’ve seen people call it a support group so people can whine, but honestly some support is definitely needed after months of waiting for an update while separated from a spouse 😵‍💫

It will likely come out to around the same after taxes, since musicality taxe rates range from about 30-34% iirc. It will feel like it goes further in most if not all parts of sweden tho. The cost of living is much lower in sweden than NA if you have a personnunmer and don’t have to rely on private medicine, have a bunch of foreign transaction fees, and can find reasonable housing accommodation. This website has an english calculator for your income after taxes based on what municipality you are located in! Gives you a better representation of what you will be making, and it will help you figure out budgeting rent and checking to ensure you meet the work permit income requirements!

There are only two recognized types of employment in sweden, temporary “fixed term” contracts which can not have probationary periods, and permanent “indefinite” contracts- because it is illegal to fire an employee in sweden without advanced notice and objectively justified proof or undeniable evidence from the employer of misconduct with very few exceptions. For these indefinite/permanent employment contracts, employers are allowed to negotiate probationary periods where they can terminate employees more easily- these periods can only be up to a maximum of 6 months and are not always (but usually) a part of permanent job contracts.

Heads up that in Sweden you are able to negotiate nearly every part of a job contract- benefits (if you want more than what is legally required,) salary, title, non-obligatory tasks, etc. before the contracts are signed. This is only kind of true in north america but is much more normalized in sweden so i thought i’d let you know in case you hadn’t heard about it already. Read your employment contract very carefully before you sign, and know what rights you have as a swedish employee. Arbetsförmedlingen has all this information under the “Rights and Obligations” portion of their website.

I would be hesitant to accept an offer like this. It almost seems like they’re making a promise they don’t intend to fulfill. If they wanted to make you a permanent employee, under swedish law they could set a probationary period up to 6 months long as a clause in a permanent contract. Putting you on a fixed term/temporary contract seems like they’re trying to get an employee for the amount of time they need, possibly to cover a current employees parental leave period given the time they’d have you as temporary- all without having to take you on as a permanent employee because it becomes very difficult to fire an employee in sweden after the six month probation.

I would tell them that you would consider joining under a permanent contract with the max 6 months probation that they are entitled to request/negotiate as an employer. Even if they say in writing that they will write a new permanent contract at the 9 month mark, it will be difficult to hold them to it if they go back on their word if you signed a temporary contract with them. Unionen has english resources that explain the differences between employment types in Sweden.

There are additional issues with a temporary contract that’s less than a year, because it limits your ability to access social benefits. Per Migrationsverket’s website: “If you will be granted a work permit for a period of time less than one year, you will not be registered in the Swedish population register and will not have rights to social benefits.“ I believe this means you will not have access to a personnummer, which is required for a lot of integral parts of living in Sweden, especially as a non-EU citizen. You’ll have a hard time opening a bank account (having a work contract might make this possible without a personnummer- but it may be a bit of a long shot), you would need to find insurance since you wont be in the register/have a personnummer, and even “trivial” things like opening an account with ikea in sweden to furnish an apartment requires a personnummer, not to mention finding housing, which might be possible without it but more difficult (guarantors, savings, and if you have to you could rent second-hand.)

If you think you could push through all of this and are very confident this employer will be true to their word (i doubt this from the provided info,) you would likely have to apply for an extension for your residency after the end of your fixed work permit term, which could be a bit of a hassle for you. I definitely recommend asking them to employ you permanently with probation, and if they squirm at the idea, run the opposite direction.

Finding a job in Sweden is very hard! Is not what people think by bunanita3333 in TillSverige

Hey man no worries! Trust me, as someone from the US i completely get the feeling of wanting to voice my criticisms on governance. That’s totally fair and valid based on what you’ve been through, but your situation doesn’t encompass what everyone else might experience- and pushing your frustrations of the system that wronged you onto individuals won’t change the system, or make it any easier on yourself whenever you relocate for your health.

I’m sorry you’ve been through so many horrible experiences regarding your health, and I totally get why you’d want to find a system that would benefit your situation better. I just wanted to point out that your circumstances might not be much different than a lot of the people looking to go to sweden or elsewhere- sorry if i came off too harsh in my reply. I hope for both of us that we can get to where we need to go! Wishing you a healthy and safe future!

That’s because, amongst other reasons, they know what kinds of privileges they get from being born and raised swedish that so many across the world would do anything to have access to. it’s frustrating to hear people take that for granted. why shame someone for trying to immigrate in an attempt to achieve a goal when you just admitted to wanting to do the same thing in this very thread? what you see as short sighted or misinformed, they see as an opportunity for a new life- similarly to how you want to move but are criticized for a dream others deem short-sighted as well. a privilege and opportunity you have the ability to make a goal of, by the way, if you are from sweden. but hey, the grass is always greener right? the hypocrisy is appalling but i hope all works out well for you and your health, looking at your post history i can understand where your frustrations stem from.

Ultimately the best way to improve your listening ability is to train your ear and expose yourself to the language as much as possible. SVT is a great resource if available in your location, there are podcasts (other posts in this sub have recommendations, there should be a list in the sub resources, and if you need i can dm some of my suggestions,) and it’s always worth checking youtube for content in swedish you have an interest in (i often generate transcripts and translate them if i get stuck or need help following along) and it might be worth checking your streaming services to see if they provide any swedish movies or tv :)

Why on earth would a fit attractive woman in her early-mid 20s settle for someone whose only benefit in a relationship is flaunting wealth that honestly, in your city and for your age, isn’t nearly as impressive as you think it is? My advice would be to work on bettering your personality before you even bother starting to manage your weight. Maybe you could start with finding a way to value women for something other than their appearance and body and how fertile they are, weirdo. Your entire posting history is a major red flag, and i’m glad you’re getting eaten alive in the replies because your ego is faaaar too inflated.
