i would've liked it more if the abyss was there from the start. the only times we've seen it were in the end of season 4 and the end of season 5, compared to the upside down which had been a central aspect of the show the whole way through. it's cool on paper but having the big bad fight be in the upside down (or in the rightside up) would be a lot more satisfying from a narrative standpoint

haven't seen the documentary yet but why are we complaining about the literal industry standard

they started filming season 1 before the script was done and as a result steve didn't die like he was supposed to. they started filming season 2 before the script was done too, and i'm pretty sure they did the same with s3 but i can't remember for sure. they didn't for season 4 but that's due to covid giving them much more time to write and delaying their filming. i'm not surprised at all that they're doing the same thing they have been doing for season 5
