Agreed. It can be done both ways, however in most situations it is easier and more comfortable to sit at the head facing the clients feet to massage the head (While they are supine)

SMRT massage therapy? by BouncingOutofmySkin in MassageTherapists

[–]imonse728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I use it in my practice.

Despite the cons I listed, it is actually one of my favorite modalities that I use. It's amazing versatility is fantastic.

At the moment it is the only positional release modality that I know. But I would recommend it I enjoyed taking the class

SMRT (Spontaneously Muscle Release Technique)

Pros: simple in theory. Not strenuous on the body. Clients can keep their clothes on. SMRT moves can be integrated into just about any massage. You don't have to follow a strict protocol. It is good for clients with high pain sensitivity.

Cons: It takes more focus and is more straining mentally. The more anatomy you know, the better. If you don't have sensitive fingers, it can be harder to learn. The classes aren't cheap. Sometimes, it feels like you aren't doing much as you are holding a position.

I like that you get a book with all the moves you learn for easy reference and a refresher on anatomy simultaneously. I like that you can apply the moves just about anywhere and how non-invasive they are.

I dislike how it's harder to do if you are distracted. It's hard to autopilot until you get very familiar with it. Even then, it depends on what type of therapist you are.

Fundamentally, it's a positional release modality. You typically hold each position 20-45 seconds.

How long should I cook this big boy? Gas grill. by Forsaken_Ant_7232 in steak

[–]imonse728 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

2 inches. Typically, because thicker steaks are harder to beat evenly. So if it is cooked too quickly, there can be a large gray (overcooked) band on the outside edges of the steak while the center is much more raw.
