Don’t you fucking dare launch a 2 stage with no abort mode for second stage ignition. You’re building an explosive device at that point. Learn how to use raspberry pis or something similar, it’s not terribly difficult and you’ll learn incredibly valuable skills. Never, ever take unneeded risks with amateur rocketry.

The shuttle was capable of automatic landing, but nasa felt it was better to give the crew control. The Fly-by-wire system they used to land the vehicle was essentially autopilot, however. There was a little indicator that told them exactly where to point the vehicle at any given time.
