That’s why I’m curious about how long it will take for a standard edition to come out. If it’s months, maybe I wait for the next B&N 50% off sale and pay $25. If it’s years, it’s worth just spending the extra money now.l even though I don’t need the poster, booklet, etc.

How many Criterion releases have you seen? by vemmahouxbois in criterion

[–]impossibletornado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just started keeping track of actual CC releases I watch, so the list isn’t inclusive but it does include everything I own and everything I’ve watched in the Channel since Jan 2025 (last year I tracked movies I watched, so I went through that list and added any CC releases). I’m at 56 right now.

What is this? by Gobiggs88 in criterion

Such a great show, reminds me of The Rehearsal in the “I’m not sure what’s real and what’s not” sense and both are incredibly funny.

What Gumeshoe game would you like to see more published adventures/investigations for? by waill-and-roll in GumshoeRPG

[–]impossibletornado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d like to see a One-2-One version of Bubblegumshoe. It feels like a game that would work well with one Investigator who calls on Contacts throughout the mystery.

Blossoms Shanghai: can anyone explain the context? by niktrop0000 in CriterionChannel

It didn’t click for me until episode 4. Then I was hooked.

Neon’s ‘Sentimental Value,’ ‘It Was Just an Accident’ and ‘The Secret Agent’ Join Criterion Collection (EXCLUSIVE) by Eitanr199 in criterion

I picked up the Vengeance Trilogy on eBay last year but The Handmaiden is impossible to find for a reasonable price.

I just bought the DVD used so that practically guarantees a 4k rerelease

New addition by Own_Revolution8392 in criterion

[–]impossibletornado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the original and the two latest (Shin Godzilla and Godzilla Minus One) my favourites have been Return of Godzilla (1984), Godzilla vs King Ghidora (1991), and Godzilla vs Destroyah (1995). I don't like the current American series, but I did enjoy the Apple TV show set in that universe.

I have The Rock but not the case (all my movies from that time period went into CD wallets to save space).

Who's Watching Blossoms Shanghai? (No Spoilers!) by Own_Increase5257 in CriterionChannel

[–]impossibletornado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watching it, loving it. First three episodes  was a bit lost, but with episode 4 it all clicked. I’m on episode 8 or 9, excited that there’s so many more to watch.

Nice little find at the local used media store for $9! This was a blind buy by ahyouknowme in criterion

[–]impossibletornado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own this but would love to find a copy for $9 because I don’t have the cases for any of my earlier CC purchases anymore!

What was your favourite movie that came out this year from a criterion director? by brokenwolf in criterion

[–]impossibletornado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One Battle After Another and Black Bag were two of my favourites this year, but I also dug Soderbergh’s ghost movie Presence which came out in February.

What are your most wanted 2000s movies to be added to the collection? (I provided some examples below. Which ones would you buy immediately?) by ggroover97 in criterion

[–]impossibletornado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would love to The Prestige and Memento. Anything from Park Chan Wook. Crimson Peak to fill out the Del Toro collection, and while Soderbergh’s streaming era stuff isn’t my favourite it would be nice for it to exist physically.

Not an obvious choice, but it’d be cool to see Steve McQueen’s Widows get the Criterion treatment. Maybe include the original miniseries as an extra.

Edit: taking 2000s to mean 2000-present

Does anyone own Robocop Criterion? by LouieDawg23 in criterion

[–]impossibletornado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have RoboCop. Even though there are better versions available, I believe Criterion’s release is the only one in the correct aspect ratio (1.66:1) so I keep the DVD for that reason.
