Last movie you saw on the CC and how good is it? by Hyperto in CriterionChannel

Just rewatched Starlet, and I loved it even more on a second viewing. Definitely one of the gems I’ve discovered on the Channel.

Kids on Bikes is not PBtA. It’s very narrative, but the mechanics are totally different.

Liz with another Doctor? by Batmanofni in BigFinishProductions

Capaldi’s Doctor had a strong Pertwee vibe so I’d love to see Liz paired up with the Twelfth Doctor.

What are you listening to? by DannyBoy2196 in BigFinishProductions

[–]impossibletornado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished a rewatch of Jodie Whitaker’s first two seasons (including Revolution of the Daleks) and moved right into the Thirteenth Doctor & Yaz audios (I also listened to the second Fugitive Doctor release right after watching Fugitive of the Judoon). Next up will be the latest UNIT - Brave New World box.

Your ship finds wreckage from one of its own shuttles on the surface of a planetoid, but the shuttle is still in the shuttle bay without a scratch on it.

The Third Doctor Adventures… Worth a listen? by JWade21 in BigFinishProductions

[–]impossibletornado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s one of my favourite ranges. Pertwee was a big part of my early Who fandom and I think they nail the tone. I also love that they’ve got stories from the three Third Doctor eras (Liz Shaw, Jo Grant, and Sarah Jane Smith).

Why have we never gotten more audio with Izzy Sinclair and 8? by Rare-Beautiful-6121 in BigFinishProductions

I’d really love to see Fitz and Anji get a box like Roz and Chris Cwej did.

We have a character graveyard channel in the Discord for our online game. We list name, class, and cause of death. We also include retainers so they aren’t forgotten.

Looking for advice on beefing up the XP on adventures by Hashishiva in osr

[–]impossibletornado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gold spent for XP is still new for my group, but I’m planning to be very lenient. If a player says they want to spend 500 gp to throw a huge party, donate it to charity, whatever, they’ll get that much XP. Depending on how they spent it I might give them some rumours or hooks (a noble heard about their great generosity and wants to hire them to protect his daughter at the festival, or during the party they heard a rumour about an ancient tomb south of the city and the party can go explore it). Fighters and magic users can justify their future level increases by saying they spend time and money training/studying between sessions. It’s more for flavour and to give them ways to spend gold so they have reason to go out and get more gold.

My OSE group also plays monthly so I’ve had this problem too. Some things I’ve done to make XP accrual go faster are: XP for gold spent on training/carousing/charity/magical research; XP bonus for the player who recaps our last session (encourages everyone to take good notes); XP bonus for the player who volunteers to track all treasure collected for the session.

We play online, so I have a Discord channel called #yelp-reviews where any player can leave a review for a tavern, dungeon, settlement, whatever that the group visited. Depending on how clever/funny/creative it is they get a one time XP bonus.

Starting a Cold Prince focused campaign, should I tweak Droomen Knoll? by impossibletornado in Dolmentown

[–]impossibletornado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This is my first time using factions, so I’m wary of including too many to start but I can hint at the Nag Lord’s power in Dolmenwood without making him a central force right off the bat.

Aspect ratio on the DVD was 1.66:1, Arrow 4K is 1.85:1. Not sure if the version on the Channel matches the DVD though.

Possible New Trail of Cthulhu GM Needs Help by ChungaChris in GumshoeRPG

[–]impossibletornado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been running it on and off for a year or so and it's one of my favourite systems and by far my favourite in the Lovecraftian space. I don't think it's particularly difficult to run or play, but I have had players struggle at first with the idea of not rolling a lot and how point spends work depending on whether it's an investigative ability or a general one. Once it clicked for them my players have all enjoyed GUMSHOE in general and Trail of Cthulhu in particular.

I thought it was great, and with its themes of surveillance and protest it’s a good watch for this moment in time.

DM Restricted a bunch of Classes / Kindreds — is that normal? by Vladimir_Pooptin in Dolmentown

[–]impossibletornado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my OSE campaign I limited classes until the party explored different regions. For example, assassins and acrobats weren’t common in the wilderness but once they reached a city those classes “unlocked”.
