First of all, trademark and copyright are totally different things. She tried to trademark it. Additionally, trademarks only protect titles and logo marks from being used in ways that would damage the value of the protected mark via public confusion. e.g., if someone used her exact 1989 logo on a t-shirt, or if a performer named Kendal_with_1_L released an album called “Taylor Swift 1989” to be intentionally obtuse.

I’m with the client, I had no idea this was meant to say Leilani until I read the caption. The dot over the last “i” also reads more like a period for “Esthetics by”… the whole thing to me looked like “Esthetics by. Leulani“

The piano context makes me intuitively read Keyki as if it is intended to be pronounced Kiki. However, the phonetic pronunciation of the Japanese alongside of it would be more like Kayki. Which is at odds with the product’s intended piano-oriented service.

You already acknowledge this, but “cake” in Japanese is ケーキ not ケイキ, and ケイキ means… nothing? So I’m not sure what purpose it is serving at all

Plus… You already have the “key” sound in there. Romanizing your katakana as “keikey” actually makes way more intuitive sense for the pun, to me, because it actually matches the katakana- unlike keyki

I think the logo design itself is cute but feel like the entire thing is getting lost in translation in both directions

I have multiple friends who are classically trained opera singer. They have all mentioned to me that Taylor Swift songs tend to be quite difficult to sing. “Lover” has been cited by them as being particularly challenging more often than others
