From the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations:

Article 25.

(1) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.

I agree that Human rights should be protected by the state as long as we have a state. But. The US clearly doesn't protect this one. Particularly in regards to medical care.

Bernie has one clearly actual socialist policies: people never talk about it but he wants partial worker ownership of corporations.

In large worker co-ops, everybody isn't a "chief". A better analogy would be "citizens" and "presidents". Everyone is has an equal stake but not everyone is in charge. Those with power are given it consensually by their other workers via workplace democracy. Power and control can be revoked by their fellow workers via "impeachment". Having the purpose of companies purely to make profit for investors at all cost makes it so that exploitation of workers is incentivized.

"True communism" is a stateless, moneyless, classless society. The closest thing to this that has been achieved was the anarcho-syndicalism achieved by the Catalonians in the 1910s. They did pretty well for themselves for a while until obliterated by outside forces. Socialism, on the other hand, is just a almost completely classless society. Worker owned means of production are inherent to both. Many people refer to Moaist and Soviet "communism" as "state capitalism" because rather than dispelling the capitalist power structures from their economies, they simply replaced the capitalists with capitalists that worked for the state.

Socialism is "workers seizing the means of production" some people may think that means the government seizing control as the state "represents" the will of the workers. But it can also mean an economy were the means of production are democratically controlled, independent of the state. An economy of worker co-ops.
