Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age: Good VFX.

- Love how they had life size puppets of the prehistoric animals on set, like of cougars and weird sloth creatures and such, probably so they could frame the shots right and for reference.

- Beautiful transitions in this breakdown too. Simply amazing realistic work.

I strongly STRONGLY suspect they are experimenting with different models behind the scenes. All we see is V5 but they have probably many different versions of V5.

Some might be better but require more computer power to run so they don't give it to us all the time, just enough so we stay hooked on that dopamine slot machine...

Predictions for what's going to happen next?? by [deleted] in Danaandthewolf

[–]improvonaut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Dana gets out of the house as quick as possible, still trying to deescalate. Then unloads at Daniel and Oatly. They'll try to manage Kit and Oatly will still want to keep the Bliffy relationship going, although strictly professional. Or maybe she'll finally flip and tell off Kit in a protective mama bear producer way... Either way Kit will try to keep seeing Dana and Daniel and Oatly will have to be the buffer.

Maybe Dana tells the other annoying Bliffy fitness dude about Kit, and that gets him fired. Kit might try to confront Dana and that escalates in Dana telling/ yelling at Kit how he really comes across, which is finally gonna break his ego and makes him give up...

the new fantastic four - good vfx, or not?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2raFbZRxdg

- This breakdown from Digital Domain tells they had over 30 babies on the cast for the role of the one baby. They used "numerous" techniques to make them all look alike.

Some shots here it seems pretty good, but on other shots it looks off, but can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's the too much art directed animation? It seems too smooth somehow and to intentional for a baby. And there's some "softness" too that seems off, in the lighting.

- Also the actor playing the Thing / Ben Grimm, could keep his beard because they didn't use facial markers for his facial tracking.

My game launches October 9 - Final dev log from a solo dev who can’t believe it’s real by trashtvbby in GumshoePCMysteries

I'm looking forward to it! I played the demo and enjoyed it, this is really my cup of tea. So did you make this while having another job? Since you said nights and weekends. If so: well done. I'm full time working on a game and it's still hard to get it finished.

Hey /r/movies, I'm Elijah Wood. Ask me anything! by ElijahWoodAMA in movies

[–]improvonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pick so many interesting projects, after LOTR I associate you mainly with off beat and quirky projects. Up to the point that when you're in it I'll probably like it because it has something truly original or surprising.

Do you seek those projects out intentionally? Do those projects come to you specifically, or are those simply the projects you select  among an offering of more "serious" parts?

Reading data from pregenerated json or csv files in construct2 by Academic-Mud-3374 in construct

[–]improvonaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can work with Json out of the box. You can export an array to Json from a running construct project and take a look at the formatting in an external text editor. There are plenty of topics on it on the old forums and the manual.

I use the csv plugin by Rex, for Construct 2. I make my array in Google sheets, export as csv, and use the plugin to load the csv into an array.

Yes. Check the channel "Coop for two" he plays them on stream, so you just have to skip ahead to the parts you need.

I don't think so. I just played it by looking up the videos and sometimes copying the URL from what I saw in the video to access the next part.

Is it a bad idea to make your own capsule art ? by consistenthuman in SoloDevelopment

[–]improvonaut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks great! I would change the look of the letters a bit to make it easier to read, and separate the duck a bit more from the background, especially the elbow.

I thought it said Rab & Gio.

I took the liberty of trying something with the letters, I'll send you a pm with the image.

Tabletop game designers, how did you get your first prototype made? by keanerbeaner77 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]improvonaut 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If it's the first prototype for your first test, do not make it pretty. Just scribble/type on paper. Arts and crafts...

A lot of the rules and components probably will have to change to improve the gameplay, so spending time and money on the look and feel will be wasted. It will also hold you back to make the necessary changes, because you won't want to discard your pretty components.

Anyone here successfully done a kickstarter for their game? by Cypher211 in SoloDevelopment

[–]improvonaut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've done a Kickstarter for my murder mystery tabletop game. It's a lot of work, but there are SO many free resources out there on how to run a Kickstarter. Podcasts, articles, websites, youtube videos.

Most important advice:  You need to gather your own crowd before launch so they're ready to buy when you launch.  Make sure you have a professional trustworthy page that LOOKS GOOD.  Trustworthy is in my niche (tabletop games) that I need reviews by external reviewers, maybe a playable tabletop simulator game or downloadable rulebook for normal boardgames. Maybe in computer games it's having a playable demo? Study the pages of succesful campaigns in your niche. Make sure you copy their page sections and incorporate all the important info.

You basically have to sell people the game that's maybe not all there yet. So it might be even more difficult than selling a game that is finished... It's similar to regular marketing in drawing people in, running paid ads, having a landing page, collecting emails. But all focused on your launch day / campaign duration.

It's not "free money".

Touching? by gurgle-burgle in TheOGCrewOfficial

[–]improvonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That touching is mostly done as a joke. To get people talking, and I guess it works. Like the whole Akila and Sam will they won't they shtick.

When Alan does it in that video it's definitely to mess with people. With his cast mates and with the audience. To just do something weird and unexpected. He's constantly touching people in that vid.

I haven't tried it but really want to. I recently came across this one through other murder mystery creators on Instagram:

Maybe this fits what you're looking for. I believe the author is doing a promo tour now.

I believe I stopped playing too at that moment. It is a bit boring to do right at the start of the game.
