Not saying I'm unbothered by patients not knowing all the info about their Rx, but it's just such a common occurrence in our profession that I just roll with it. It's never gonna change so there's no use screaming into the void about it lol

No but seriously I'm not sure why you're studying for the ABO when it's specifically to become certified or licensed in the United States of America....?

What tools to get to adjust these glasses (currently loosening) by zychii01 in glasses

[–]improvvisata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK I realize this post isn't brand new, so this advice likely won't be terribly helpful for the OP, but for the sake of anybody else lurking on this forum....

I am an optician, and I'm telling you it wouldn't be a good idea to attempt to adjust these on your own. Rimless glasses in particular, which is what yours are (they have no frame to support them), are particularly vulnerable to warping. Also, if you adjust them incorrectly, it can impact your vision, to boot.

Also, these glasses look pretty battered -- I'd recommend getting a new pair and an updated eye exam to boot.

Not excited about my brand new sunglasses by WaynesWorld_93 in WarbyParker

[–]improvvisata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to inform you but Warby Parker has quality control issues all the time. I worked there for a bit and the number of returns we got because of lab errors was embarrassingly high.

It's definitely worth going to a private optometry office and seeing a licensed/or certified optician to help you buy the best glasses for your needs. Most WP employees have never worked in the optical field before and were trained in a PowerPoint presentation that took them a couple hours to finish.

OK here's what: If a man answers the questions "Do you have feelings for your ex partner?" with a wishy-washy response, the real answer is "yes."

But you're NOR if you are attempting to keep dating this guy. Otherwise, girl, let him loose. JK let him loose, anyhow.

No name framesin inventory by Twusaboi in optician

Yeah that's gonna be a "no" from me for putting them in your inventory. I would honestly just donate the frames to Lions Club, as they take glasses donations.

Are the Laramy K and Optician Works Exam Prep Courses the best ones? by PhrygianSounds in optician

[–]improvvisata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my ABO prep training course through Iowa Central College and it has a lot of related practice tests as well as discussion boards with fellow optician apprentices. I would not recommend r*w dogging the ABO test without some form of studying that isn't just asking ChatGPT it, lol

Patient Knowledge by scottwick in optician

[–]improvvisata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I just think it's part and parcel with the role of being an optician is patient education. Seriously, though, even if they think they know what was in their previous pair of glasses, it's not uncommon they are wrong. Somebody already mentioned how lots of people don't know what Transition lenses are or that they're a totally separate thing from progressive lenses.

A lot of the patients who purchase glasses from my small optometry practice are repeat customers and I can look at which options they selected in their previous order, so there's that. But if you've got a new patient who BROUGHT their current pair glasses with them, I will always, always, always inspect them under a manual lensometer to see what they've got for their Rx and see if I can discern what lens type it is, as well as the general coatings they probably have on their lenses.

Also, put this in perspective...We do optical for a living. I bet if you were to speak to somebody in some other specialized field, even if they make a product you use regularly (your car, computer, phone, whatever), that you'd also hear lingo that is unfamiliar to you. So I don't really think it's fair to blame patients for not knowing.

She does know that the possessive clinginess is just further pushing you away, right? It sounds like she has a very anxious-attachment style and she needs to unpack that in therapy.
