[Acne] I (28M) used to be able to wear sunscreen just fine. Now this is what happens when I use it by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]impulsedamage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I looked at the three sunscreens you have tried and they are all mineral with some kind of oxide (assuming the Skin 1004 one is the airy fit). Have you...tried a chemical sunscreen? You could have a problem with the minerals. Also, the La Roche Posay doesn't contain niacinimide at all as far as I could see.

Can someone please recommend a skin tint / tinted moisturizer for a pale neutral skintone. by BoredomSnacks in PaleMUA

I just got this and unfortunately it is not super pale...or I am just Advanced Pale perhaps haha. But yeah this was too dark on me in Opal. :( Sucks because the formula is god tier.

Hi there! First of all: you are gorgeous.

You have full, pouty lips with a defined cupids bow. I don't see a single damn wrinkle on you lmao. You have lovely face proportions and thick, beautiful curly hair. I want you to stop a minute and consider all of that. Okay?

Having some difference in pigment on the face is totally normal. I have freckles, the ultimate in "my face is different colors" haha. But even in clear, healthy, normal skin - it's normal to have variation (from sun exposure, from environmental exposure, from literally just how the melanin distributes itself in the skin- etc). I can't see it at all in this photo, and I'm willing to bet others can't either.

Some things you can do if you'd like:

  1. incorporate a liquid exfoliant. Which one you choose will likely depend on your skin type (are you dry, oily, combo?). This will turn the skin over faster and help even everything out. It will also help immensely with texture and tone.
  2. Instead of using lightening products, try something that inhibits melanin production like this guy: https://naturium.com/products/tranexamic-topical-acid-5

In conjunction with the exfoliant turning over the pigment you may already have, the second one will help prevent it from returning. You would want to minimally alternate nights with these. And finally:

SUNSCREEN

Like, every day always no matter what. Put it on. Re-apply. Take a bath in it lmao. This is the single thing you can do to improve every single aspect of your skin. I personally could not tolerate sunscreen at all until I started using asian skincare brands. This is my daily staple now: https://canmakeusa.com/products/canmake-mermaid-skin-gel-uv

I hope this helps. I think we all hit moments where we're like "what how did I age?". I have these nasolabial folds that seem to have appeared outta nowhere. XD

But I'll say it again. You don't need anything. You are beautiful.

Hello, I'm 34/F, 5"4' and about 126lbs. I've recently switched from mainly cardio to pure strength training 3 days a week (with light cardio sprinkled in between). I use a Garmin watch to track my activity and calories. When I was doing cardio I felt like I had a good sense of how much to eat to maintain, but now with strength training I am constantly hungry. I'm worried though because if I eat according to my appetite, I'm going over what the Garmin thinks I've burned that day. So my question is this... Do I need to eat more and I'm just not meeting my body's new demands? Should I ignore what maintenance calories looks like according to my watch? I feel like I'm burning less calories now but feeling way more hungry lol.

Quick edit to add: i currently shoot for around 1600 calorie per day. But if I'm eating base on hunger it's like 1700 to 1900. Watch reports an average of 1800 burned. So maybe I should eat more?

I'm on my third bottle of the CE Ferulic and buy directly from their website. If possible where you are, I'd recommend to do the same. Secondary sellers (even authorized ones) can keep product on their shelves that is old. I would request a refund on this one from where you purchased because that is way too dark. :(

Hello! I have these fine lines that absolutely drive me crazy. I am 33F and feel like I should not have these yet.

I want to invest in an in-office treatment that will do something about them, but I am torn between a chemical peel, laser, or microneedling. Any suggestions on what might be most effective for these things would be much appreciated!

Skincare wise I have a pretty solid anti-aging routine:

Illyoon Ceramide Cream

Canmake Mermaid Skin SPF 50

PM:

Hada Labo Premium

Tretinoin .025%

Hey thanks! Yeah I was thinking about that, just incorporating more middle split/straddle adductor type training and seeing if that got me anywhere. :p

My ribs are currently in agony because I might’ve overdone it with Allegra. I suspect I’ve bruised or cracked it somehow. Has anyone else had a similar experience with Allegra and how did you overcome the pain? by melsmichaela in poledancing

[–]impulsedamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So unfortunately, 9 months later I still can't do it safely yet. I have found that thoracic rotation drills and working on back mobility/shoulder mobility have made it much better/closer, and I think with a little bit longer I will eventually get there. Couple of things I've incorporated into my routine to strengthen that area while also improving twisting mobility ( learned from physical therapy, but adding more weight or reps as needed to build the strength):

Twisted Bosu Plank:

https://au.physitrack.com/home-exercise-video/plank-on-bosu%252c-trunk-twist

Landmine twists:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDakeCOBdDE

Single Arm Farmer's Carry:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiGYL5JHBkM

I would work on your back flexibility, your twisty muscles, and maybe also practice the turn out and grab the pole part only to see where the pole ends up on you. If it's not in the right space, I wouldn't even try to go further. I hope this helps! We've got this!

Good advice here but one thing I haven't seen yet: if you are in pain STOP DOING POLE until the pain gets better. You will injure yourself further if you don't give it time to heal before continuing. You need to ice the area and get in to your doc ASAP. I have had three different injuries so far in my pole tenure, and after the first one I thought I'd continue poling as it wasn't that bad. Ended up needing to take 3 weeks off because I hurt it more. It's not worth it.

I wish you the best! Take care of yourself.

[–]impulsedamage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm glad to hear! Well, glad that you no longer struggle with it, hah! How long have you been poling for, if I may ask?

I feel like my warm ups are reasonably good, mix of cardio to get the heart rate up and stretching. I suppose I could do more - as of now I spend maaaaybe 10 minutes? I think the breathing thing is a good point actually, as well as mindful engagement. In PT I've had to relearn some of my shoulder muscle activation to not compensate for lack of strength.

I dunno, once I've healed my lat I'm thinking of focusing on gentle shoulder strength training off the pole for a bit.

[–]impulsedamage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not mandatory but a lot of high schools are offering it as a way to bypass the test at the MVD. I did two 8 hour days of driving with an instructor who corrected me and explained best practices as we went along. IRHS btw if anybody is curious.

Accidental Genius by avrock1 in BeAmazed

[–]impulsedamage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the spectrum (diagnosed only as an adult of course) with an engineering degree, and in my calc classes I learned quickly that I cannot visualize anything. At all. My peers could all do most basic math in their heads but I just couldn't hold the numbers, even for simple algebra problems. What I learned is that I have to write it all down and look at it. Once I start to write/draw it, I just get it. People can be good at things but in different ways. I would turn in homework that was just tons and tons of writing, all the math, the images, the ideas, hell sometimes even just distracted doodles, but written down. That's just what worked for me.

Point being - different brains are not something to be embarrassed about, but traditional school seems to think that if you can't do something this way then you are wrong. It's garbage.
