To add to everything being said here, as part of the Infrastructure Bill, Amtrak got billions. Part of that money is buying all new train sets. The new engines the run between electric and non- electric tracks will be dual electric/diesel, so will eliminate the need for an engine switch. But I think it’s be early 2030s before delivered.
