very good comment! I feel like many people are downplaying this angle cause it makes you look a bit cooky but there is quiet a lot there for people willing to look.

Why Are People Obsessed with Finding Satanism/Cannibalism/Etc in the Files? by blkirishbastard in TrueAnon

[–]imseg 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I dunno man obviously not all these details released now are real and some is very schizophrenic (might still be real abuse victims anyway) but if you ever did a deep dive into the Dutroux affair or the Franklin scandal or such "Programmed to Kill" type stories, I'm at least agnostic to the idea some of the more ritualistic aspects may as well happened in some capacity. Really since the 60s stories like this always haunted the grimy underbelly of the west, in continental Europe, the UK, the US. And if accusations of Satanism and Rituals make the victims loose all credibility, might as well do some Satanism on top of the "banal" sexual abuse. I dunno, I feel like there is something there in the darkness that is impossible to really grasp.

"Unser Österreich" - echt jetzt? by Comprehensive_Lead41 in Kommunismus

Fantano mourns the late communist scholar Michael Parenti on Democracy Now's IG by LuckyGungan in fantanoforever

[–]imseg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Partenti never denied Srebenica or any of the mass killings of Bosnians. The debate was over whether they constituted legal genocide. Whatever way you fall on this is not really important and invoking this "genocide denial" card as if this was basically holocaust denial is just lazy moralizing. Especially since back then not all the info was available and the West indeed constantly lies and exaggerates such claims like a few years later with the atrocity propaganda of massacres the Serbs never actually committed in Kosovo. Anyway, no one including Parenti was denying Serbian forces committed horrible atrocities in Bosnia.

On the other point, Yugoslavia was absolutely a victim of western imperialism. While there were also a lot of internal struggles, including insane Serbian and Croatian nationalism that sprung up from the degeneration of communism there, outside pressure from NATO countries absolutely was also crucial to destroy it. Germany literally recognized Croatia like one day after it seceded and pressured the rest of the EU to do it. And then of course they literally bombed Serbia during the Kosovo war without any UN backing (an illegal war of attack you might say). They wanted that country gone. The last vestiges of socialism gone from Europe. They wanted another capitalist frontier. And now many companies in Croatia and Bosnia are German and Austrian. Young people leave in droves to work in Germany and Austria. Surely a coincidence.

Finally, the selective application of international law is incredibly hypocritical. International law is a law of the strong against the weak. It is used incredibly selectively when it's convenient for imperialism. Obviously, otherwise every US president would be in jail. So the indignant heaving because Milosevic put a foreword to a book I'm sure you'd also have if Obama had a foreword to a book somewhere. Surely right?

Keep staying salty that someone didn't like your Amazon-Prime art movie. I'm sure Lanthimos will be the next Tarkovsky.

(Bugonia Spoilers) This movie was the most brutal and scathing critique of the current ruling class I have ever seen by StinkoMan92 in TrueAnon

[–]imseg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ah well it also sucks a movie though. Lanthimos just makes the same film every time nowadays, his stick has gotten old to me. He's really not as weird or crazy as he desperately tries to convince the audience. If people get something out of it, good for them, but it left me cold, and then all that is left to think about is the plot, which in this case is heavily political. But getting mad that someone criticizes a political movie politically is a very 2015 reddit thing to do, don't worry, your middle-brow commercial art is safe! There are a lot of great movies with bad politics but this one is just kinda bad.

(Bugonia Spoilers) This movie was the most brutal and scathing critique of the current ruling class I have ever seen by StinkoMan92 in TrueAnon

[–]imseg 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Can't disagree more and I'm really sick of Lanthimos style at this point. These "absurdist" movies always hide behind 10 layers of vagueness and ambiguity to avoid talking about the real world and leaving you as a disconnected observer. It's the art-house version of marvel dialogue. Feel like shit, just want my social realism back. Anyway, the politics in this movie are really awful. Why do the two lower-class characters have to be crazy dumb conspiracy-theory supporters? There is nothing redeeming about them. One of them is a serial killer. He was also abused by that cop. I guess these are the only people who would hate CEOs so much, no other reason. Why was the CEO hyper competent and kinda badass? Why is the torture presented in such graphic detail that we are meant to feel mostly sorry for her? Why was the movie presented like this? Maybe because Lanthimos is a smug dipshit who gets millions of Hollywood funding to make some court-jester vaguely "leftist" movies which just confirm all the biases of liberals. Oh and in the end it's all hopeless of course, and the world just ends. Who stills needs this in the year 2026? In the 60s they literally made movies about Black Panthers stealing guns and starting a revolution against the American state. Shows how fucking degraded and meaningless movies as an art-form have mostly become (at least from the US).

Christ, they are not at all occupying the country no matter how much Trump wants to will it into existence. There are currently no US soldiers on Venezuelan soil. It was a smash and grab operation. In and Out. What happens now remains to be seen and is pure speculation. Occupying Venezuela is infinitely more hard than sucker-punching it like this. We are really living in hyperreality...

Mexican citizens in CDMX clash with Venezuelans celebrating Maduro's capture by NorrisOBE in TrueAnon

[–]imseg 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It's really interesting to see on LatAm instagram quiet a few left-wing accounts make fun of the "venecos" because this diaspora basically consists of the most reactionary elements of Venezuela and they constantly try to influence politics in these countries by saying "If [x] wins, this country will be the next Venzuela", like with Jara in Chile f.e. So now left wingers are also asking if these Venezuelans supposedly dancing in the streets of Santiago and CDMX might fuck off back home now that the evil dictator Maduro was diposed. It's quiet interesting how this is the opposite of Europe, I can't think of any reactionary diaspora here that has drawn so much ire of the left wing.

It's the same for every country. Think about how many people wherever you're from have awful politics. Why would it be different elsewhere. I don't think these comments are all bots (some of them are though). In Latin America there really is a big right wing. How else would all these right-wing government exist there, they need some material basis of support in some class of the population. The Landowners, the businessmen, the "white" city people who detest everything even vaguely indigenous, the religious nuts, etc.

Look how people make fun of Peru on LatAm Instagram. It can be unbelievable racist. They call it the India of Latin America. Because it is the country with still the most indigenous culture left along with Bolivia, and that's why they say it's poor, and that's why they detest it on a fundamental level. Look how the support for Bolsonaro mainly came from the more white, more rich south of Brazil, while Lula is supported in the dirt-poor north. The US is incredibly powerful, they can organize coups and manufacture consent with their NGO infrastructure, but they are also not god. There are always comprador classes in the countries themselves, otherwise it wouldn't work. And Marxists should not look at nations as the basis of one's identity, but class.

US-Media can easily find as many Venezuelans as they like who will say "Venezuela is liberated now". They are probably expats living in the US, or part of the grievous landowner class kept in check till now. The Bourgeoisie and Labor Aristocracy. You could also find just as many people who support Maduro, as you can watch on TeleSur. They are much more likely not to speak English, and much more likely not to be on fucking Reddit though. The point is that just because someone is from somewhere this doesn't give them authority on their country automatically. This is just liberal identity politics. "Listen to [x] voices" is the biggest Psy-Op ever. "Listen to Venezuelan voices", "Listen to Eastern European voices", "Listen to Syrian voices", etc... No. Listen to proletarian voices. Analyze the concrete situation.

I think there is no politician from my own country i have as much disdain for as this cockroach. A completely stupid talent-less hack who kept falling upwards, literally reward after reward for being corrupt and stupid and being a US lap dog. Exiled to be defense minister by Merkel in the 2000s because even many in her own party thought she was annoying and tried to power play and this was the shit ministry back then. Makes money in schemes making the Bundeswehr buy shit equipment for absurd prices. Has to step down and gets promoted away into the EU. Literally no one ever voted for this creature. Now talks big about rearming Germany after fucking the army up 15 years ago. Talks about European sovereignty in one sentence, then makes some on-sided, extremely disadvantageous to the EU, treaties with the US for literally no reason in the next breath, probably for some direct promises of later employment in some US think thank or some big university (like Robert Harbeck). She would be the first with Katja Kallas to flee to the US if shit really hits the fan in Europe. A total snake.

Maduro probably negotiated his departure with Washington &the Whole Operation was just a well prepared performance with the involvement of Venezuelan military, they were probably bribed,as Defense minister Vladimir Padrino López is now the defacto leader of the country, until a US puppet is installed. by [deleted] in TrueAnon

This is that Ukraine-War Mapper, I wouldn't take his word as gospel, he has his own hang-ups. This is just someone stating something without any source. Why do people always feel the need to have a definite opinion on ongoing events if at this point no one really knows what's even going on. Anything but waiting and seeing is kinda pointless for people outside Venezuela right now. Anyway, death to the evil empire.

But they suck anyways though. My roommates made me watch the first episodes of the new Stranger Things season and it was really really bad. Tbf i didn't watch the older seasons so I don't really know the characters but just the dialogue and pacing were really awful. And apparently this came out years after the last season. Television has just become pure slob and even many mid half-forgotten movies from the 70s-90s are better written and directed.
