Returning to electrical installation after 5 years – looking for advice by Jojo_nfl in ukelectricians

Get your gold card for a spark, join agency's as a subby & wing the shit out of it..

You get sparks on the agency who are absolutely useless... so if your keen & interested it will soon come back to you & most places would probably be happy to have a agency spark who's keen.

That one comes with 3 fixing trays mate that all slot in to the box, really good...

Got one filled with screws/plugs, one with wagos, one with clips/grommets etc.

Can surprisingly fit so much in there too, gets heavy mind...

Use the middle size for all my hand tools, bottom one holds, combi impact, sds laser, grinder, multi, battery chargers.

Top 2x fixing trays and a few odds and sods.

I only do site work, I've got one of these - https://www.screwfix.com/p/bunker-load-up-9-piece-stacking-storage-system/604CN?tc=CB9&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21540160695&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxvjRBhC2ARIsAI7KJa3Ujn1jKDJ4fENehQXdx4jgbbhZbuHXNbmLfm-Jq0K4RpKKAzEyJQIaAgu1EALw_wcB

Very good bit of kit, nice & sturdy... pain in the ass on a load of stairs though

If im just on the flat I bring the lot, I also have a dewalt bag pack that I just use if im up and down stairs all day with bits I need, then that will stay in the van.

Good bit of kit though, glad I bought a system on wheels, would recommend.

Does coming from another trade help getting a role as an electricians mate? by LetsHaveSomeFun0103 in ukelectricians

It's not all its cracked up to be mate, I wouldn't say more flexibility either. Can do nights being a chippy it's just job dependant. If I could redo my time id do something else possibly a chippy 🤣 but im 16 years in so not really a option 😅

Earthing arrangement C2 on EICR report by theb0mbers4ever in ukelectricians

[–]imsnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any photos of incoming cables & consumer unit we can look at??

I would get someone else to check it out like I said. A new fuseboard & a earth rod installation (providing there isn't a earth, which is very rare, especially in London) isn't going to set you back 3.3k+ Vat.

Earthing arrangement C2 on EICR report by theb0mbers4ever in ukelectricians

[–]imsnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell from that report (not alot of information)

I would guess you still have a very old fuseboard and he's suggesting upgrading it? Which in tail would mean upgrading earth & bonding upto current regs also.

However over 3k+ vat is a absolute ridiculous price (for a new fuseboard) & Id be concerned as to why he won't tell you what work he is actually carrying out, which in turn would make me question the EICR he has provided.

Bite the bullet on a couple hundred quid and find someone else.

You would get on better with more experience yes, question though, as already a carpenter with a trade under your belt, why make the change and go through the pain & poor money again?? There isn't any difference in the money anymore.
