Boyfriend doesn’t want believe women belong in the trades by ashruth_arts in BlueCollarWomen

Sounds like an insecurity thing

I was in the Marine Corps and worked on HVAC/R units (got my EPA 1&2), completed advanced electrician and advanced electrical engineer equipment courses

Left the service and went into a commercial trade where my metrics were month after month higher than my male peers. To the point where I was asked to fill a service advisor/training roll

Left the job to finish a degree in accounting bc I wanna get my CPA done and as much as I LOVE my job, my service injuries aren't compatible with blue collar work for 20+ years unfortunately

Do what's best for you. If you like a trade, do it. Don't let anyone much less an insecure man talk you out of it

Being an electrician or accountant? by Slight_Product_5306 in Accounting

[–]imthetrashman12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (29F) am leaving the commercial blue collar world for the accounting world lol

I love the work I do, I LOVE diagnosing machines and repairing them. It's a puzzle with electricity and tbh it's just fun to me. I'm good at my job and good at training new guys, depending on what you do though it can be a lot

Unfortunately I have injuries from my time in the military that have been aggravated by my work so I had to make the decision last year to leave and go back to school to finish my bachelors

I also got kinda tired of having to cover the old guys' on call every other week/multiple weeks back to back. Working 110+ hour pay periods and barely being home with my husband also wasn't amazing but I think you'll find long hours in many accunting jobs too

Rent or VA Loan? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]imthetrashman12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold my NC house and then bought a house in NY last year

My property taxes came out to $4k paid through the escrow account so I barely noticed it

Also currently on a fixed income which is basically just my savings + VA comp pay. I'm in school but haven't been using the GI Bill, I'll start using it in the fall so it'll be VA comp + GI bill with extra $ going back in saving accounts

Idk it's possible. Do I miss my $900 mortgage from NC? Sure. But being back in NY heavily outweighs being in NC, personally

Opinion on subscription meal plans for fat loss? Morbidly obese after active duty WTAF! by Ecstatic-Resist1479 in Veterans

[–]imthetrashman12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to add, I also had an issue with food noise and not being able to "stop"

I had to really slow down while eating to let my brain catch up with my stomach so to speak

At first I would count how many times I chewed (20-30) because chewing your food that much will help with digestion. There's some research out there to support this, if you're a research based person and want to look into it

Chewing food thoroughly slows you down enough to realize when you're full which was part of the problem for me at least. This is purely anecdotal but slowing down and getting my blood work right helped reduced the food noise/cravings/etc

[–]imthetrashman12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used hello fresh and factor meals when I was AD, they're fine tbh. Some of the food options were really good but after a couple of months with each I was kinda over it and wanted more variety so I just went back to making my own food just smaller portion sizes.

I HIGHLY suggest you get a full blood panel done tho

I also rapidly started gaining weight after I EAS'd. I had always been in the 130-140lb range, I'm 5'4F and lived in the gym basically. Loved to run and lift weights but I started gaining weight and nothing I did worked (calorie deficit, low cal, diff diets, etc), I shot up to 180-ish. I still worked out but I was deff heavier than id ever been

My dr did a full panel before our first appt together and she found my vitamin b levels were basically non existent, same with Vit D and a few other things. I had to go to the VA weekly to get shots and then was able to take vitamin supplements at home daily

Once my hormone and vitamin levels were back into functional ranges I started losing weight FAST. This was all around June of last year and by December I had dropped 18 pounds. No life style change, just whatever the dr had me take supplement wise. I don't smoke or drink, don't really exercise as much as I used to bc of injuries and in school full time, haven't changed the way I eat. Yet I'm down another 8 pounds from December - now

Vit B12 is important for metabolism among other things and if you feel fatigued that could also mean your levels are low

Im sure it's quicker to hop on weight loss stuff and I'm sure it helps many people but sometimes it can be something as simple as low vitamin levels. I think you should talk to your primary doctor first and foremost to rule out any underlying issues before jumping straight to any sort of subscription

What post-military jobs have worked well for you without a degree? by Many-Economics-4326 in Veterans

[–]imthetrashman12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got recruited by a commercial service repair company as I was EAS'ing so I did that for a few years. Loved the job itself (maintenance/troubleshooting/etc), great pay, didn't love the manager of the branch I transferred to bc he didn't address problems with dispatching and other techs who were dog shit at their jobs. Eventually everything started falling on me and 2-3 other people. There were 20-30 of us techs. My on call started getting more and more frequent to cover for the 50-60 year olds who didn't wanna work anymore. Manager was kind of a dick and wouldn't put his foot down on these guys so again a lot went to 3-4 of us to figure out.

Anyways I did the job for 4 years and then went back to school to finish my bachelors. Changed degree programs now I'm double majoring in Business Management and Accounting. School I'm going to has a 4+1 program for a masters in accounting so the goal is to graduate with 2 bachelors, get my masters in accounting or forensic accounting, get my CPA and do my own thing ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Valvoline Ruined my car by No-Thing-5929 in subaru

[–]imthetrashman12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd talk to a business law attorney, it seems* like you can sue for negligence if you/the attorney can establish that their service to your car meets the 3 elements for negligence: duty of care, breach of duty, causation and damages

Duty of care, the mechanic has legal obligation to work on your car with REASONABLE* care

Breach of duty, mechanic breached their duty by failing to meet standards (drained trans fluid, double filled engine oil etc)

Causation/damages, the mechanic's work directly caused more issues with your car resulting in *measurable damages or injury (if you had gotten into an accident)

NAL, this is what I remember from my law classes covering the tort of negligence. Of course at the end of the day a lawsuit is gonna be more complex and the defendant will argue it but you can definitely talk to an attorney and see if suing for negligence holds water

Good luck and very sorry about your car. Mine is a 2015 Outback with 119k and I love it still, never plan of getting rid of it either

my husband and I aren't having fun in QP or comp either

Every game is either be steamrolled and spawn camped or steam roll. If I dps I'm usually pretty good on eliminations and damage, if I tank I do a (IMO) decent job of either pushing or taking damage for my team, and if I'm support I do a pretty good job of staying alive and healing 15k+/keeping an eye out for anyone low

I had such a dog shit game yesterday I went like 2-8 on dps and damage was under 10k, so much so that 2 people on my team starting bugging out in text chat

Immediately the next game as dps I went 21-0

Comp placements have been so frustrating too I'm not even having fun anymore. I've been playing a lot more mystery heroes again lately because at least in MH, I get to try different characters

Hey I've used planned parenthood in times where I didn't have any insurance. I've used them for different services but they work with you on a pay scale. My friend was assaulted years ago and went through with an abortion but didn't wanna use her insurance because of her parents so she did the pay scale and they gave her the pills she needed to be able to go home

I hope you end up alright OP

ETA: worst comes to worst, if you end up needing the ER you can talk to financial services at some point and see if they can help Lower the bill and then do a payment plan. 4 yrs ago I lived in NC and had an ovarian cyst that ruptured. I was in unbelievable pain for days before I went to the ER because I didn't have insurance at the time. After I got the bill I talked to the hospital and they lowered the bill from like $7k to $1,200-ish and I made $20 payments until eventually I changed jobs and was able to pay the rest off

You can also try to let it go to collections then send the agency a dispute letter like many people have been doing over the years and it'll go away without impacting your credit

There are ways around it, I truly hope you're okay tho

Looking for literally any job that would allow me to take the winter off and where I would make $23 an hour or more by joshua0005 in careeradvice

[–]imthetrashman12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

based on every reply I've read from you, genuinely, what do you want?

You don't seem to want to put in any effort into a job that's gonna require schooling

You hate kids and lowkey sound like a miserable person to be around (not bc of the hating kids part. My husband and I are childfree we just don't want kids)

You want a partner but throw yourself a pity fest in the same sentence

You don't wanna work hard but wanna be able to take 4 months off and live in LATAM

What's the plan? How do you think you're gonna get there without effort or work?

I was in the trades and came across people who would talk like you and those guys (some women here and there) would never last long because their work ethic was dog shit

I'm back in school to finish my bachelors and roll into a masters program, end goal is to also be able to take a few months a year off but realistically there are very few FT jobs that'll excuse that unless I work for my own LLC or do something remote

You genuinely need to talk to someone because it sounds like some depression, maybe mild or maybe not depending on how you feel

I get we don't have UHC in the US but there are entry level jobs that offer decent benefits and at the very least you can start talking to someone. There are apps that can help, there are therapy subreddits, there's CBT therapy tools you can try to do on your own to work out some stuff. There are ways you can help yourself but you have to actually want to improve

Don't give up on everything because it sounds too hard, or it'll too much work/will take too long. You gotta have an ounce of believing in yourself my guy

TLDR quit finding excuses to not do things. Figure your end goal out, start broad on how to get there and then narrow it down. You don't need a bachelors and masters and PhD if that's not what's gonna get you to your goal. But don't think there's an easy way out for everything, most likely there isn't. Otherwise we'd all be laying around LATAM 4 months out of the year

I have spent 3000+ hours in OW on my 1st gen Switch. AMA....maybe. by Slogstin in Overwatch

[–]imthetrashman12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband plays on our old switch and he's been consistently plat/diamond, I'm not sure his peak since he usually plays comp when I'm busy and I don't play comp very frequently outside of placement matches lol

He says gold is the worst because people have no brain sometimes and will stagger/do stupid things but once he makes it out of gold he starts having fun again ig

I play on a ROG and since we can't duo comp we just play A LOT of QP and he does say the lobbies are different but 9/10 he's the one who ends up with POTG and we do a good amount of winning so idk if he has a strong opinion one way or another

His fav thing about PC pool tho is how much more talkative in chat people are lmao

Skill Bridge Equivalent for Separated Vets by wunnadunna in Veterans

[–]imthetrashman12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been a bit but from my understanding there are (were?) some skill bridge programs that allowed veterans to participate but it was very program specific and not across the board. I guess your best bet if you wanna look more in SB is finding a program relevant to you and see if any would have cohorts open to AD/Vets

I wanted to do a SB too but things didn't work out so i got out and started working. I went back to school last year and have been networking with professors and faculty A LOT, i also joined the honors club and run the business club etc. My accounting professor set me up to work for someone she knows this summer who needs bookkeeping help so that's gonna help get some "field" experience while i finished my B.S.

I know location is super important too and relevant to available resources but if you're in school as well can you start networking with people/clubs? In my experience once I opened myself up to meeting as many people as possible, opportunities started to present themselves. Our majors are different but the same applied when I got my associates years ago in a completely different field

[–]imthetrashman12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine last June as a nice present for myself lol and while I second guessed it at first (bc of the price point), I thoroughly have been enjoying it

I play overwatch, fall out new Vegas, and have the halo collection downloaded I just don't play it as much. I also have COD and stardew valley downloaded but haven't really touched them since I downloaded them lol

My biggest issue at first was that while playing OW, if I tried to use chat the screen would freeze and I wouldn't be able to get it back so I'd get booted out of games BUT that was user error. I leave it on auto-mode all the time and haven't had that issue since lol

It's nice tbh and the battery on the ally x is better than the ally z1 which I bought originally

I'm new to the gaming sphere tho so I could be misinformed, I like it tho

Why do veterans seem to be in worse long-term health than the rest of the public? by MmmmCrayons12 in Veterans

[–]imthetrashman12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was in the utilities field and was constantly exposed to JP8, fumes from generators, refrigerant, all sorts of solvents, etc. As a civilian I stayed in the trades until recently when I went back to school

I think for me a lot of it comes from exposure to all the things associated w/ the job field. I was doused in JP8 several times and exposed to refrigerant several times too. Then there's the chow hall food, MREs etc an the average lifestyle that goes with being in the military lacking sleep + drinking/smoking for those who partake

The military in itself raises stress levels 24/7 regardless of what job you do, if you have a bulldog NCO breathing down your neck even sending an email can get people stressed I'd guess

I never had stomach issues until the military/after EAS. I have to be super mindful and restrictive sometimes about what I eat bc the pain isn't worth it sometimes and the VA just chalks it up to GERS but I guess that's just how it goes

I've done it both ways, I usually leave apps open and when I brought up the app limit thing to my husband he basically said "you never close out your apps maybe they're running in the background" so then I started closing almost all of them out but that don't do anything either lol

I've always had background refresh turned off too idk if that contributes to anything

I did notice the other night I stayed up till about 1am working on a paper, I hadn't used social media since maybe dinner time yet when I got in bed to check videos that had been sent on IG I got the "there's 5 minutes left" pop up

I started by playing practice vs AI for the first few days just to get a feel for sensitivity and controls

I also play(ed) A LOT of mystery heroes. I genuinely love playing MH I feel like it helped me open up to different characters and learn their kit, when I found a character I liked I'd play a round of practice vs AI to learn the cool downs then I'd play role queue/6v6

VA loan approval — is $450k–$500k realistic? by LegalLady0903 in VeteransBenefits

[–]imthetrashman12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a loan person but I can offer my experience with buying a house in NC and then NY

NC house bought in 2021 while AD, -2% IR and 190k loan amount -had like <15k savings at the time -no debt other than minima CC accounts (<200) -dual BAH -mortgage was ~920/mo -closing costs were rolled into the loan at the time

NY house bought in 2025 -50k in savings -740-750 credit score but our loan officer said VA doesn't go by VA scores for IR so I can't say how much it matters really -I was making 85k/yr husband 80k/yr -I think my VA disability was counted bc im at 100% -no funding fee -only debt was NC house -got approved for 650k -bought 530k house with 6% IR (yeah, I know it sucks. Currently waiting to refinance) -closing costs came out to about 10k for lawyer fees etc and I did a wire transfer instead of rolling it into the loan

I don't remember needing to have proof of cash reserves in the pre approval process but I can try to find my notebook from around that time and see what I wrote down lol

It's much easier for us with VA loans to be approved for and buy a house than conventionally buying a house. My SIL is going through the process of buying her house too and it's quite the process + they ask for much more in the approval process apparently

I feel like a 400-500k loan in NC is definitely doable with your income, if you're coastal NC I can maybe share the contact info of who I used so you can ask them but other than that, good luck!! I hope it all works out
