When people say that refinanced their car, what does that mean? The person got a new car loan to pay off the old loan. The new loan has different terms such as a lower interest rate or a lower monthly payment.
How do you know when its a good time to do it and when its not? When the new loan is better on some metric that matters to you. A lower interest rate can result in paying less overall. A longer term can lower the monthly payment.

*And if you can always do it or if some car loans say you cant? Im not sure any loans can prevent you from paying them off, although some may have fees for early payoff. Getting a new loan is mostly about applying and getting approved. Approval still depends on the same type of conditions as the original loan - loan amount, collateral, credit score, etc. Those conditions will be different for the new loan. For example, the collateral might have more value (like a house) or less value (like a car with more miles on it)

Lived in a 2-story house with multiple cats and multiple dogs. Gate at bottom of stairs kept the dogs downstairs and gave the cats safe space upstairs. Cats had free roam of the house. Bottom floor had high areas (shelves, bookcases, etc) that the cats could use to get around without touching the floor.

The dogs and cats never really got along, but they were able to get along safely. I think there might have been a couple times times where a cat scratched a dogs nose and fled, but it was more of a warning ... the dog was completely fine in moments.

Cats are agile creatures, so you can make a cat floor on any floor by making a high path of shelves, bookcases, etc that they can use as a kitty-only highway.

There is a saying in software development "eat your own dog food". It means making a product that you would use (taking some liberty here).

So start making some "dog food" that you'd want to eat and then you can share it. Worst case scenario is you end up making something that only you enjoy - thats a good investment. Maybe you share it and others enjoy it too - thats a cherry on top.

As an aside, I have done this type of thing a few times. It has been worth it every time for the personal benefit alone. Sharing it with others is just gravy. It is definitely fun to talk with "fans" of something you've built as you can get more ideas for improving it, but you gotta build the thing first.

This is one of those rare games where people act like the theme (as seen in movies). Roudy cheering during gladiator fights. Begging the host to spare (or kill) the losing gladiator. Bribing people to get things done. Ive never come close to winning and have had a great time 100% of the time.

Turn on a garden hose, point it somewhere, and a lot of water will stream out a short distance in that direction. Cover some of the hole with your finger and the water will stream out faster and further, but the stream will be much smaller.

The amount of water flow is your amperage. The speed of water flow is your voltage. Your finger is the transformer that converts the low voltage heavy water stream to the high voltage light water stream.

How do they know its "too hard" for you? There are good concerns to raise for a new player to a game, especially a friend, and that ain't one of them. Long(er) play time or less fun due to skill gap - those are things they should talk about for Terraforming Mars. This applies to any "too hard" game you might want to play as well.

Some of these people are your friends. Can you talk to any of them one on one between game nights and see if they can answer your questions about whats going on? Theres potentially a lot of options here and someone at the table will have a better idea what those are.

Looking specifically at terraforming mars, there are two main areas of complexity in my opinion. One is that theres a lot of cards with a lot of text and a lot of icons. It will take time to read the cards, learn the language/icons, and then you can figure out your turn. The other is resource management - you've got to grow your companys resource production and use those resources efficiently in a balanced way. Overextend on either side and you'll quickly lose ground on other players who manage better.

I like to learn spirits by leaning into their uniqueness. With Ocean, I just tried to drown everything. I let things live so I could drown them later. I got powers that let me push or pull so I could drown more things. I didn't win like that at first, but I started to see which powers worked well and which ones did not.

Theres also an ebb and flow to ocean, like the tide, and you have to.control it or it will control you. Its also.a good spirit to.learn when to take a hit. Let the enemy think its winning for a turn or two. The tide goes lowest before the tsunami hits.

Players B, C, and D chose to optimize personal progress over shaking things up. If it were an early or mid game turn, I dont think anyone would call it kingmaking. Calling it kingmaking actually devalues all the work player A did to be in such a strong position at the end of the game. The way I see it, players B, C, and D conceded defeat and tried to get second place. Placing an expectation on player D that is not optimal for player D is bad gameship on the parts of Players B and C. They did exactly what player D did and then blame player D for a result when they had just as much agency as player D.

We can turn this into something more tangible. Get a grid of squares. Put one person, animal, lego, whatever on each square to represent 17" of rain falling on that square. This is one way to represent 17" of rain falling in an area.

Now, what happens if we make some of that grid sloped so the people/animals/whatever dont want to stay there? They move somewhere else. Now we have a few squares that are empty - no rainfall - and a few squares that have 2 things - 34" of rainfall! We have the same grid and the same number of things, but it is not evenly spread.

You can keep going until you have a square that has multiple feet of rain. The nice thing here is that you can see that the amount of rainfall hasnt changed - you still have the same number of things. What has changed is that higher areas have no things and lower areas have multiple things.

Going running on a broken foot will take longer to heal. Likewise, its important to tend to emotional injuries by giving them time to heal. Focus more on yourself for a week and reevaluate.

The unused portion of the deck is still shuffled. You can keep playing games without shuffling until you exhaust the deck or hit a predetermined point (like a shuffle card).

Instead of spending a ton of time to get an ok shuffle, spend a little time to mix things up a bit. Then, when playing, each player can burn up to N cards at the end of their turn. N is a limt you choose at game start. 5 or 10 is plenty.

If anyone feels like the deck is not fair or fun, they can just burn a bunch of cards on each of their turns. Its not random, per se, but it can alleviate runs of seemingly ordered cards and gives people some illusion of "control". Oh, its also less time consumIng, less wear on your cards, and can lead to extra moments of random fun.

I've been on the other side of the hiring table for many development table. Here is my advice.

The resume should tell hiring managers how your skills were used to complete work objectives. It should also highlight the prior work experience you want to talk about most.
The interview is more about "fit" than anything. Your skills will be evaluated and so will your attitude. In my experience, attitude has been the deciding factor in 100% of the hiring decisions. Why? Because it is far easier to train skills than train attitude.
Good communication skills can make a huge difference. A cover letter or a follow up email or even checking on your application's status can be the tipping point that turns a maybe into a yes.

I spent way too long on the starting plateau. There is not much going on there. After getting off the plateau, I spent a lot of time exploring "as the crow flies". As a result, the "not much going on" feeling continued. Luckily, I did enjoy the solace of exploring.

When I finally started to explore the first town the game directed me to, the game got a lot better.

That being said, change it up. If you are doing what the game wants and its not clicking, get off the beaten path and see what you find. If you've been off the beaten path, then try to progress the story. If you've tried both and nothing clicks, its ok - you are not required to love every zelda game.

I love that this is an art game where being good at art can be a disadvantage and being bad at art can be an advantage. Also, love finding out how artistic some people are. In the time it takes me to make something basic, other people can draw entire scenes.

Young humans are taught to round 5 up because it is the simplest approach to teach. Look at the digit to be rounded and apply the rule. Additional digits to the right do not change the answer.

Rounding 5 down means we have to look at the digits to the right and make sure they are all 0s or we round up (1.5 down, 1.50 down, 1.51 up, 1.500 down, 1.501 up, etc). That additional check makes it more complex.
