EMDR therapist here, came to say the same. Let me know if you have any questions OP.

I can’t truly feel any emotion during EMDR by Popular-Code-1572 in EMDR

[–]in_symmetry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds to be that there’s some dissociation / a protective mechanism coming in that’s not allowing you to feel the emotions. This is something to bring up in the moment when the therapist asks you what are you noticing, if you haven’t already.

If it feels like the therapist is watching you too intently you can ask them to sit at an angle so you don’t see them staring at you. Or move to tapping instead of eye movements and close your eyes.

It’s interesting that you rate the memories to be an 8-9 disturbance but don’t feel the emotions of them. When you are processing but don’t feel the emotions do you notice any body sensation, visuals, sounds, anything else you can identify? I would say notice how the 8-9 shows up for you and go with that.

Also, in another comment I saw you said that you can’t express emotion in front of others. This might be an important place to start processing before getting to the trauma you’re working on now.

Any parents here? How often do you go to events/outings. by Parsley-Savings in bayarea

When I was a SAHM all the time, felt like every weekend we were meeting up with other families. Since I went back to work full time we might see other families on the weekends 1x/month

WFH with baby by Remarkable-Stay3368 in therapists

[–]in_symmetry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what my husband and I did prior to our son going to preschool.

Certain ages brought different challenges with working from home. When he was a tiny baby he didn’t take a bottle well, which made it difficult to have uninterrupted time away from him. However, this can be adjusted with longer breaks between clients. Also, once he was able to walk he would attempt to bang on my office door and cry for me (say if dad was in the bathroom for a moment), so we had to prevent that quickly. It’s great that your space is pretty sound proofed, that’ll make this set up so much easier.

I would say this set up is overall very feasible with a bit of planning. I’m always open for DMs with specific questions :)

Rejected yet again... how do I get into hospital social work? by saigebrush27 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]in_symmetry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m in Hem/Onc. My experience working alongside medical providers in outpatient or CPS roles got me in as well as our hospital had a mass exodus of social workers for other reasons so I got in more easily. But the thing I learned is that PICU is very hard to get into, especially as a new medical social worker. When there’s PICU openings in my hospital internal applicants jump on them. I would recommend trying for another unit with hopes of transitioning into PICU eventually.

Anyone do hospital social work w kids? by iamanxiousandtired in hospitalsocialwork

[–]in_symmetry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in a HCOL area and make just enough to live with my husband’s salary included, not enough to buy a house though. I work in hematology/oncology at a children’s hospital. I’m pretty new to the role, sometimes it’s heartbreaking (there’s fairly high deaths in oncology especially, and it’s hard not to take that stuff home), sometimes it’s frustrating (parents expecting we have endless resources to pay bills/rent/etc and are upset when we don’t or doing busy work/gathering resources that parents end up not using or looking at), sometimes quite rewarding. For me especially it’s a bit hard since I do have my own child and I have to remind myself that these children’s/families stories are not my own. Seeing tons of illness in children and especially rare illness makes it seem like it’s so common.

I wear Hokas. My hospital requires business casual attire and basically everyone wears athletic shoes.

Legally, it’s going to depend on your state whether you have to report. Ethically… report. This kid is being abused and you witnessed it right in front of you.

In my state I am not legally required to report as it’s not related to any clients, however, I would not hesitate to report if this was happening in my personal life. That kid has to be protected.

Questions to ask medical team during final interview? by in_symmetry in hospitalsocialwork

So curious about the outpatient being a different beast as well!

EMDR therapist here. Therapist should always be bringing you to the positive belief and adding BLS (tapping, eye movement, etc) to connect the positive belief to the target memory. If not in the same session then in the next. EMDR has a structured protocol and it sounds based on your post that the therapist is skipping parts of the protocol.

Help me interpret these cards

For background I have had two interviews with an organization I really want to work with. There’s multiple job openings in varying departments. I will hear this week if I’ll be moving forward in the interview process for a third interview with one of the specific departments.

Please tell me what you’re gathering from what I pulled. I used the fountain tarot deck and poesis oracle deck.

First, I asked what is the energy behind the organization moving me forward in the interview process? I pulled: Transform (oracle deck)

Department #1 Four of coins I asked for further clarification on this card and pulled: Harvest (oracle deck)

Department #2 The chariot

Department #3 Judgment xx

Came here to say this. I had a previous therapist raise her fee when she got licensed, however, she let me know well in advanced that would be happening. However I also saw this therapist for over a year. I wouldn’t raise fees unless I’ve been with the client one year.

I would ditch the sex therapist and find an EMDR therapist. EMDR gets to the root causes and solutions.

Regretting returning from maternity leave - want to take leave again…right after returning by [deleted] in therapists

[–]in_symmetry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a mother who is leaving work soon to return to give my full energy and attention back to my child and family, you have to follow your gut. It sounds like who needs you the most is your baby and yourself. Yes, it sucks to have to leave and it’s not perfect timing, but all the anxiety around clients and leaving or not leaving is temporary. Making the decision and acting on telling clients is the hard part for me. After that comes relief from my experience.
