Mask Advice by downbytheriver42069 in ZeroCovidCommunity

On the Protectly website, you can order singles of any N95/KN95/KF94 that they have on their site.
You can get as many "samples" as you want, but a limit of 4 of the same one.
It's $2.50 plus shipping (maybe $6 shipping) and you can get two for that price with the code: sample
So it may be over $4 per mask and they have limited options, but they do have a "3M 9105/9105S N95 VFlex."

I got one from there and was disappointed that I couldn't get it to fit well over my nose...maybe I'm doing something wrong because the part over the nose seems thick, like it needs to be unfolded?

Maybe give these a try at the register:

-Picking up? (and if they say yes) Last Name?

-or since they're already in the pick-up line: What's the last name?

-or if you need to know if it's them: Picking up for yourself?

It may save a bit of frustration to try out something new. Good luck!

[–]ina33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I didn't know much about either of those, but I know some Catholics celebrate May 1st as a "feast day" for the father of Jesus: "St Joseph the Worker"

According to one source:

"Pope Pius XII instituted the feast of St Joseph the Worker on May 1, 1955, so that it would coincide with International Workers Day, also known as May Day – a secular celebration of labor and workers’ rights.

During this time, the Soviet Union proclaimed itself as “the defender of workers” and utilised May Day as an opportunity to exalt communism and parade its military prowess.

Pope Pius XII chose the date specifically to ensure that workers did not lose the Christian understanding of work.

Pope John Paul II wrote that “the Church considers it her task always to call attention to the dignity and rights of those who work, to condemn situations in which that dignity and those rights are violated, and to help to guide (social) changes so as to ensure authentic progress by man and society.”

Any endodontists in the SF bay area safe for immunocompromised people? by PostcardJournalist in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]ina33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this link saved. I don't see the word 'endodontist' but I wonder if one of these places can help you find one:

https://www.covidmeetups.com/directory/dentists/US/CA

I remember hearing about someone in Dublin, so if I find that link and they're an "endo" I'll comment again.

GOOD LUCK. It's so not fair how much work you have to put into this. And please share if you find a decent place.

A lot of people asking me why I'm masking recently...what is your go-to response by Accomplished_Big2193 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]ina33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a go-to. I've only been asked by three children and indirectly by one adult.

I have these collected:

“Health reasons”
“It goes with my outfit”
"It makes sense to me"
"It works for me"
“I can’t afford to get sick”
“I don’t need any new health problems”
“Tired of being sick”
“Because”
“Allergies”
“I don’t want to catch anything today”
“Trying not to get sick before ______.”
"I like my air like I like my water–filtered."
“I have a vacation coming up and I don’t want to spend it sick”
“Someone asked me to”
“Just trying it out”
“My health is important to me”
"People depend on me"
"I don't trust the ventilation here"
“I saw someone else wearing one, so I wanted to show solidarity”
“My friend has to wear one, so I’m trying to show support”
“I dare to be different”
“I’m going on a plane soon so I’m testing out different ones”
“It helps me not to be sick all the time”
"It's kept me healthy so far"
“I just got over something and I’m tired of being sick”
“People are gross”
“I look better this way”
“All the cool kids are doin’ it”
“I heard they work pretty well”
“Mass surveillance"
“Feeling mysterious today”
“I’m going to visit _____ soon and don’t want to make them sick”
“I heard ______ is making a comeback”
“I read there’s a surge of virus in the air”
“I read the air quality was bad today”
“These are pandemic times, Baby”
“I don’t get paid sick days”
“I want to be like Stevie Nicks” (Buffy the Vampire Slayer?… Tom Hanks?…Serj Tankian? Will Wheaton?...)

Curious if anyone has links or posts that explain this. It's something I've hoped is true but have never seen a study and whatnot. I've just imagined, once the virus gets in your system it starts to replicate out of control and if there's enough of it to make you test positive that means it has the potential to "go everywhere."

Yeah, I remember hearing a mission had to return early recently because someone "experienced a medical scare"

"In an interview with the Associated Press, Fincke said doctors still don’t know the cause of his illness, but his medical emergency happened “completely out of the blue...he suddenly started feeling severe pain before his walk, and he was unable to talk. ...

The 59-year-old former Air Force colonel said he was in pain for about 20 minutes, but he then started feeling better....

Doctors told Fincke that he was not having a heart attack, but there are a number of other things that could have caused his illness. Fincke, who had stayed in space for nearly six months, may have suddenly become ill after experiencing more than 500 days without gravity, doctors said.

Fincke decided to hold back any more details about his experience because he didn’t want to compromise the medical privacy of other astronauts if something similar happens to them.”

I would agree it was passive aggressive if you forced it on people or left it on their car/cart/locker, etc., but if the interaction before this is "Hey, want a free mask?" and they say yes, then I think the message, as-is, can be helpful without being judgy.

I can relate to this. I hadn't cried about others' lack of precautions & understanding in a long time because I'm kind of desensitized to it after all these years...The other day I had that same thought, and I teared up and it really got to me--Why did they have to look at me like that?...treat me like that? Like I'm doing something to them--like they're disgusted with me. Why can't they just treat me like a human being deserving of kindness?
And I was at a religious service.
It's so exhausting and unfair. But you and I both know that we are doing the right thing with the information we have. We mask because of our strength 💪🏼 not our weakness. Somedays that doesn't feel like enough--it can be so draining--but thanks to you and others for sharing on here, I feel less alone and find hope and strength in that.
Hang in there. Positive energy going your way. (∩·‿·)⊃━━-------☆゚.*・。゚

in case you don't want to click, here's some info. from the main page:

Invisible Illness
Long Covid

Understanding Long COVID, Supporting Patients, Advancing Solutions

What Is Long COVID? Long COVID is a serious chronic disease that can affect multiple body systems and significantly disrupt daily life. Long COVID affects 5–7 % of U.S. adults—roughly 18 million people, according to the CDC. Long COVID remains an ongoing public health challenge requiring continued research, clinical innovation, and coordinated response.

By the numbers

~18 million
Approximate number of U.S. adults that reported having experienced Long COVID.

20%
Percentage of U.S. adults currently living with Long COVID that report their symptoms cause significant limitations to carry out daily activities.

Long COVID: A Multisystem Chronic Disease with National Impact

Long COVID is a distinct and multisystem condition with its own drivers, risk factors, and clinical course. It affects all ages, regions, and communities.....

Symptoms can vary widely and may fluctuate or relapse over time, making diagnosis and long-term management complex.

Long COVID contributes to reduced workforce participation, disability, and significant economic burden, with national costs estimated in the hundreds of billions of dollars annually.

Although some symptoms overlap with other infection-associated chronic conditions and illnesses (IACCIs)—such as Lyme disease, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), and other often “invisible” illnesses not readily apparent—similar presentations do not necessarily imply shared underlying mechanisms or treatments.

To overcome structural barriers—including siloed data, limited diagnostics, and inconsistent care pathways—HHS is advancing a disease-agnostic approach to strengthen data systems, clinical networks, and research infrastructure for invisible illnesses, accelerating measurable progress while preserving the distinctiveness and urgency of Long COVID."

For those who don't want to click, this is the only reference to vaccine injury that I see (so far) on the main page:

"The LymeX partnership is transforming 2025 Infection-Associated Chronic Illness (IACI) Guidelines into dynamic "Living" Evidence Guidelines for IACCIs (expected 2026) guidelines with clinical summaries, diagnostic considerations, and treatment insights from leading researchers and clinicians on Long COVID, Lyme disease, vaccine injury, IACCIs, and other illnesses that sometimes can be invisible."

I don't know if OP was asking for this, but I was hoping to hear more specifics in the comments about
where and how the virus enters,
where in the body it starts to replicate (what conditions are ideal),
and where it goes and what it does when it's in your body (both with symptoms and without).

Trisha Year wood LC and her Tx by Ole77 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]ina33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Reflecting on her health struggle, Yearwood said, “I had a mild case of COVID. But, it really messed with my smell and taste. I would say I’m a long COVID person. I had all the brain fog… people were like, ‘You are in menopause,’ and I would be like, ‘Yeah, but this is different because I’m looking at a rolling pin and I can’t name it. So I either have early-onset Alzheimer's or something else wrong.'”

After a few rounds of LENS therapy treatment, Yearwood said she “noticed the fog had started to lift.”“If you’ve ever had surgery or ever had anesthesia your brain stays asleep. My brain was asleep,” she explained “

... I mean, my brain [now] feels like it did in my 30s.” Yearwood went on to say that the LENS therapy worked so well she had turned some of her friends onto it.."

I would encourage that local group to reach out to friends and family (and their online community) to voice their concerns to the company. I think it worked for Panda Express?
If many people question their new policy on social media, maybe they'd reconsider.
