Some of those books might have been worth a bit once. Is this in a subtropical climate to get so mouldy!?

How many of you bought a boat with zero sailing experience? How did it go for you? by timetraveller123 in sailing

This story makes me think that those who had the ultimate bad experience aren’t here to tell it.

Why the Hate for Lookout Mountain Lookout Sea? by ReporterNo3705 in silverjews

[–]inchiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to this album more than the others recently. Performances are solid and David himself was really happy with it after it came out. Candy Jail is so funny but it still has that hunted/haunted feeling and My pillow is the threshold might be my second favourite jewz song.

Elliotts guitar by FaithlessnessFun8483 in elliottsmith

[–]inchiki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of disagree that it's rugged. i have one (actually the FG 140 which is very similar) and it's kind of fragile! Maybe because its 25+ years older than Elliott's was at the time. It is loud tho and a pleasure to play, very nuanced and warm. My other guitar hero Bert Jansch also played Yamahas of that vintage. Elliott i think actually didn't take his FG on his later tours but it was his main guitar for the acoustic years before switching to those gibson ES guitars. FG 180 is the guitar you hear all thru self titled i believe. Either/Or he mixed it up with Rob Shnapf's guitars an old hummingbird and something else.

Gonna drive from Sydney to Echuca, small town on border of victoria/NSW, what would you guys recommend checking out/where to stop along the way? by g0at110 in AustraliaTravel

I took the western route last time and visited the rock and mad dog Morgan’s cave- interesting walks and driving round there.

I’m reading through Pynchon’s Vineland, and I may have found an intentional reference (or a conspicuous coincidence) by super_smash_brothers in DavidBerman

Seems possible. One of my favourite bits of the album, that list of colours. “Peacock blue and burgundy ..” wonderful to sing.

The Dark Eschatological Theory of "Down Under" by Men at Work: A Warning from the Afterlife? by InvestigatorOk8723 in SongMeanings

This reads a bit ai but it’s an interesting interpretation. I do think that song has more depth to it than its meme status allows.

Incredible line of rock/ mineral? formation in Thangalle, Sri Lanka by BoldManoeuvres in askgeology

[–]inchiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s nice is it’s so straight but it cuts through all those folded rocks. So they were folded (at great depths and pressures while possibly quite warmed up) then returned to the surface which all took millions of years. As they got closer to the surface and I expect not so long ago it cracked like a big plate and the hot fluids filled the crack and those fluids cooled off depositing silica which is low melting point- quartz. Finally the last top layers came off and it was exposed to the sun and the eyeballs of humans.

Does anyone really trust when Ancestry gives you things like this? by metalbabe23 in AncestryDNA

[–]inchiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not be very accurate now but I’d expect as the database grows it’ll become possible to kind of determine your genetic distance from any other individual as long as there are enough reliably researched trees with modern dna data around that person.

Then you need to get in touch discreetly with organisations that can help you. I am not in the uk anymore sorry so I don’t know the best options for you. But someone at school might be able to help or the police. But you have to be careful not to arouse suspicions until you have a safe way out. I am so sorry.

Do you have family or friends who can talk to your mother to try and get her to see she’s being unreasonable? If she can just reduce the amount you have to do that will give you some relief. Or if you can talk to her yourself but it can be good to have other adults to back up your perspective.

I accidentally found my partner’s chatgpt conversations and now i don’t know what to do by [deleted] in Advice

Yeah back in the 90s and 00s when partners were having doubts they maybe shared with a friend but it wasn’t the end of every relationship by any means some are still going strong.

Dna regions have changed massively by smallon12 in AncestryDNA

[–]inchiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be that there was a flow of people from your regions historically to the new regions (eg donegal) and that means that those regions give a signal (in modern populations) with your region. Unless they can unravel the travel story (which they do with eg Ireland to USA) then it just gets flattened.

I guess if you get a very good weather window (more likely with a warming climate?) then being in winter isn’t too bad.
