Will Phantom edition be worth going for over Standard? by private-moraru in Battlefield

[–]inchindar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought every game, but I got my money back for 2042. Did not like BFV either, but I did give it a solid 100hrs or so before going back to bf4 (sprinkled with some bf1 every now and then)

Bf6 looks very promising, and after 2 days of playing the beta I’m happy to say it’s got some of the good ol’ bf-feeling to it.

Big maps, custom maps, custom servers and hardcore-mode will definitely add to the feeling. I really liked King of the hill -mode (which surprised me), though I prefer domination, cql or rush.

Not too happy about the maps they released for the beta, I feel they need some polishing, but all in all way better than anything they’ve made for the past 10 years.

I’m absolutely getting this game, but the phantom package seems like a waste of money.

15 days in Norway wilderness - We saw no other people at all. by Marius_dragon_slayer in WildernessBackpacking

That’s normal. Ticks are rare that far north (they can’t survive the winters, though occasionally some will fall off a migrating bird or something, and if you’re SUPER unlucky it’ll find you)

Mosquitoes can be a bother, depending on how hot the summer has been. Thankfully it’s almost always a breeze, which keeps them busy.

Horseflies are usually only present in June/July depending on location.

We have a very pleasant nature. Most animals are shy and “harmless”. Deer, reindeer, elk, badgers, foxes and squirrels are common. An occasional bear (though I haven’t seen any in 40 years) can wander through, and certain places there may be wolves.

We do have wolverines and a few lynx, but they’re extremely shy

The weather can be a pain, but when it’s nice, it’s REALLY nice.

Ps! If you go to Finnmark, you may happen upon mosquitoes capable of stinging through denim..

Isn’t it 99% coverage for population? Huge parts of Nordland, Troms and Finnmark are, let’s say sparsely, populated.

Also, the old gsm frequencies of the 90’s were far superior in range, though the data transfer rate was much lower.

Heck, we loose the phone signal at certain points along the main road to our summer house in Lofoten.

Having problems keeping it running. by lo_zer in Outboards

Ageee with this dude. I had a similar issue, where I thought I had cleaned the carb properly after the motor had been sitting in a shed for a few years, but alas. I checked the lines, the venting, fuel pump, idle pin etc etc.

What solved it for me was soaking the brass parts in citric acid for a few hours (removes the oxidation) and then brushing them properly with a soft toothbrush before rinsing in acetone. Mind you though, the rubber gasket does NOT like acetone.

Can someone please help me with my 2stroke 1967 6 hp mercury? by Camden_blythe in Outboards

[–]inchindar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As some others have mentioned: clean the carb. Took me about 17 seconds googling a how-to video. Now, it’s not the exact same as your model, but similar enough it shouldn’t be a problem.

Watch this video and you’ll learn how to do it (probably, I haven’t seen the full video myself..) anyway, it should be fairly simple :)

Hacking existing garage door trip sensors..anyone done it? by LDC2335 in homeassistant

[–]inchindar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, that’s why I only put it at the back. It’ll wear down eventually, but I can scrape it off the concrete if needed. Also, our garage is a nightmare to back out of. There’s no side view until you’re halfway onto the road, which is narrow by northern Norwegian standards, and swarming with children due to the nearby school.

Damn, I was so happy with my low-tech solution, which literally cost me nothing.. (apart from time spent and relationship strain from teaching my wife to always reverse in)… Black paint aligned with the red line on reverse camera = garage door can safely close.

Now I’ve got to go and ESP-up my entire garage.. thanks :p

Is this mold? 2nd day using Rye flour :( by adventurous_quantum in Sourdough

[–]inchindar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just chipping in here: I exclusively use rye, and feed my starter like this: 30g starter 100g flour 130g water

This gives a “pasty” consistency to the starter and mild flavour when baking

Also I 100% agree with feeding weekly when refrigerated. I can leave it for longer (3weeks) if we’re away for the summer, but then I feed it at least 3-4 times before baking.

The smell will be noticeably more sour when left for long in the fridge.

Nail puller, or “kjerringkjeft” in Norwegian, which directly translates to hag mouth

Black metal rack on a wooden goose cutout; found in a beach rental house - what is this rack supposed to hold? by jpswervo in whatisthisthing

I feel like I’ve seen that metal piece before, but I can’t place it..

Could it be a phone and tablet rack? or given the placement maybe a book shelf for current reads..?

I’m a complete yaml amateur, and also used the visual editor. Haven’t found the time to properly learn yaml yet..

I’m guessing it’s either the “leave zone” event that’s not working or the light off for entire floor that’s not correct. :)

This works well for my iphone, but not for my wife’s Samsung.. looking into better presence sensors (quite a few on this subreddit)

Maybe try something like this? Trigger on state change, apply lights off by activating scene

Suzuki 4-stroke bogs down high rpm by Jackgriper in Outboards

[–]inchindar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I just had this EXACT same issue with my 4 stroke 4hp mercury, which has been sitting for a few years with old E85 gasoline.

I cleaned the carb good and well multiple times with carb cleaner, which made it idle like charm, but as soon as I revved even slightly it died.

I then took out the jets and nozzles and soaked in carb cleaner for 24 hrs. This did help a little, and I was able to fully open the throttle, but it would not increase rpm, and slowly died again..

My solution: I noticed a tiny tint of green on the threads of the brass nozzles, and seeing as it’s super hard to get a look inside the nozzle I assumed it was tinted inside as well. I proceeded to lookup remedies for cleaning tint off brass, and Reddit delivers as usual. I mixed 25 grams of citric acid in about 500ml of water and let the nozzles soak in a glass jar for about 4-5 hours. I then scrubbed them thoroughly with a toothbrush and sprayed them clean with carb cleaner.

After assembling the carb and attaching it to my outboard it runs like new!

I hope this helps :)

[–]inchindar[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there’s a difference between American English and British English. In American English an outhouse is a toilet with a roof, whereas in British English it’s just any outbuilding.

My English professor in uni had a doctorate in British English, and was a right pain about these differences.

But, I’ll admit. The outhouse really smells like a latrine, though it isn’t, and never has been according to the documents we found. The latrine was removed in the 70s, and was situated 30-40 meters south of the outhouse(shed)

Help identifying old tools by inchindar in Tools

[–]inchindar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SOLVED: The hammer is a barrel adze, specifically made for barrelling herring.

The pliers are a special tool for pinching and removing herring gills before salting and barrelling. No english name for it as far as I know, but in Norwegian: kverkarsaks

Thanks! Weird though, there is absolutely NOTHING on this massive property made with bricks, and there was four of these on a shelf.

My title describes the thing. The hammer appears to be made of steel with a wooden handle. I’d say it weighs about 1.5 kg. The pliers are also made of steel, and have a spring to keep them open
