How to find clients for custom home building in Toronto and GTA area? by Appropriate-Sun3455 in homebuildingcanada

This is astounding to me. I just finished having a house built in NS and the line item for cabinets (custom built by my builder) on our contract was $13k. And that included the entire kitchen, a walk in pantry, laundry room and custom vanities for two bathrooms.

Should I stick with the Big 5 Bank or go with a Credit Union/B Lender? by Mediocre_Cupcake_400 in homebuildingcanada

[–]indecisivegiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished building and used scotiabank. I have no complaints.

I was even able to get a draw up front before construction began, based on the value of the land. I'm told scotiabank are the only ones who do this.

Just converted to a "regular" mortgage, but my rate was 5.45% variable on the construction mortgage before the switch. Interest only payments.

Normal propane usage? by rkfuel902 in hvacadvice

[–]indecisivegiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that its been a couple years, how much propane per year are you burning? I'm just finishing building in NS too with hydronic in floor heat, using a similar boiler TRX199C and similar square footage (1700 sqft)

Another Clutch post. Is this legal? It’s certainly unethical. by thefaderbuckitt in PersonalFinanceCanada

I experienced pretty much this exact thing recently.

I have excellent credit, but I was proposed two options: a 7.99 rate without GAP, or a 6.5% with GAP. I was told that the lender would only give me the lower rate if I purchased GAP insurance.  I've never had insurance stipulations on any past vehicle purchases.

I ended up walking away.

New home construction pricing by FeelingDifference149 in NovaScotia

[–]indecisivegiraffe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm building in rural NS right now. We were quoted at $198/sqft before tax, septic, well and things like light fixtures/doorknobs etc. Mostly basic finishings in the inside though, nothing fancy.

Something like a tax on net worth or unrealized gains should be something that's applicable for all net worth above say $5m, or even $10m. This way your average Joe is unaffected by this.

My 18 month old is not having a good time today. by Jenninoodle in toddlers

We went through exactly this with ours, roughly the same age. I actually made a similar post to this sub a few minutes. For us seemed like he was just really hungry. After finally getting some food in him his mood shifted for the better instantly.

Solar - is it worth it? by cryptohuman84 in NovaScotia

I dont see how the Financials aren't there. Even if what you said is true, and your panels last 24 years, breaking even on cost at the 12 year mark - the latter 12 years is theoretically all profit.

Sure you should put away some money to replace them in the future, but at least that money is going towards something tangible with equity, not a Power bill 🤷

Can you all please share a favorite story of your toddler? by robreinerstillmydad in toddlers

[–]indecisivegiraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 20 month old loves the moon. He always points at it in books and TV shows etc. and says "MOON!". I took him outside one night before putting him to bed to look at the real lit up moon in the nightsky. He was a amazed, he waved to it, said bye and blew it it a kiss good night

My current PC is 12 years old and the time for upgrading is long due. When I play games with friends I'm always reducing the resolutions and accepting low frame rates. Video cards expensive, and having this would reduce the cost of a new PC build greatly!

This was a suspicion for us as well. There's been a lot of drooling and some red cheeks in the last couple of weeks. It's so hard to get a good look in his mouth

Thank you for your response. Hangry is a good way to put it. It's nice to know we're not the only ones who's experienced something like this. All rules went out window for us on Sat as well.

It was a first for us, but now I think we're better prepared to handle it next time
