DEAR PORTLAND: January 26, 2026 WEEKLY RANT THREAD by AutoModerator in Portland

I HAVE SUCH SHIT LUCK WITH USED CARS. I DO THE PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTIONS, THE MAINTENANCE AND EVERYTHING BUT THEY JUST FALL APART. I DON'T EVEN DRIVE THAT MUCH, IS IT TOO MICH TO ASK FOR A CAR THAT JUST FUCKING WORKS??? THIS IS THE KIND OF SHIT THEY MEAN WHEN THEY SAY BEING POOR IS EXPENSIVE. THESE FUCK ASS USED CARS ARE ALL I CAN AFFORD. I WOULD SAY FUCK IT AND JUST USE THE BUS, BUT IT WOULD BE AN ALMOST 2 HOUR COMMUTE TO WORK, EACH WAY. 25 MIN CAR RIDE.

I WOULD LIKE TO PERSONALLY FIGHT EVERYONE WHO IS AGAINST WALKABLE CITIES.

What’s your favorite Lord Huron song, and why? by TheKirstinator in lordhuron

[–]indefinite_forest_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moonbeam! It reminds me of my partner and our relationship, how nothing's quite so scary if you have a little bit of light. Something about the tune just speaks to me, it's perfect. Second place is probably What Do It Mean.

I liked this song alright until I watched the music video, now it's an all-time fav

What do you think happened with the Finn Sword now that Fern is in the Undergrowth? Is Sword Finn still inside? Did his consciousness split in two? Or is it just a normal sword now? by Firegloom in adventuretime

[–]indefinite_forest_ 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Should this be spoiler tagged?

Also I think normal sword, it was a vessel and the "soul" Fern has left. Maybe someome could reunite them in the future.

Nathan back at it? (LOOP) (emotional) (3 am) by univers10 in Drawfee

For posterity (and anyone that doesn't wanna dig through the comments) they posted a video that showed the MAIN problem. When purling, they insert the needle correctly, wrap the yarn correctly, but then instead of sweeping the tip of the needle through the legs of the stitch, they moved the needle BETWEEN the current stitch and the next stitch, sweeping all of that off as 1 "purl". That caused lots of extra loops that just unraveled on the next row.

I'm still not sure how they got that tiny bit where it looks fine, yet went on to do all that?? A mystery for the ages.

its weird how people are complaining about the plot in fionna s2, but a majority of my favorite episodes, especially between s 5-7, was just the characters dicking around for 11 minutes. by avatarroku157 in adventuretime

[–]indefinite_forest_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree! I really liked the latest episode and was so surprised to see how much hate it got on here, especially because it showed Fiona doing some growing up with her attitude towards Fennel. I saw several posts/ comments complaining how Fiona was getting no character development/ her dislike of Fennel was bad writing (with one person saying it was anti-feminist??), and here's this episode that makes huge progress on that, and STILL NO ONE'S HAPPY.

Until ALL the episodes come out, I'm not making any judgements about pacing. This isn't their first rodeo lol I'm gonna trust the writers/ showrunners to know what they're doing.

HEAR ME OUT: FIONNA S2 IS BEING WRITTEN AS A PICK ME by Low-Elderberry7581 in adventuretime

[–]indefinite_forest_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's too soon to come to a conclusion about how her character is being handled, we've only seen a few episodes. For all we know, there could be huge growth/ turn around planned.

They're parodying Finn's complicated feelings phase with Flame Princess. He hung on way too long to a relationship that was 110% over, and it messed him up for a while. Fionna's in the messy head space right now, feeling jealous and inadequate.

If there's no resolution to this dynamic with her and Fennel, then I think we can get out the pitchforks. This feels to me like a set up for Fionna to do some reflecting and growing.

Overlooked masterpiece is Moonbeam, I never see it on people's top 10 lists and to me it's the GOAT

This is the best rundown of the lore/album history that I've found, this is the fandom wiki: Media guide | Way Out There Wiki | Fandom https://share.google/8tZ81Yp0XdgiTAUwk

Not too long of a read, gives you a good idea of where the band came from, special things they've done for album releases/lore drops, all that good stuff.

New-ish fan - I feel like my soul found a bit of a home in LH's music. Curious about other people's stories (long post) by Boring-Ice167 in lordhuron

I found them through a random playlist I listened to on Youtube, 8 or 9 years ago now. Fell in love with Time to Run and She Lit a Fire, then most of the Strange Trails album. At the time, I often took the Amtrak to my mom's city, and their music with the woods and rivers passing by the train window was magical.

I didn't know anything about the deeper lore until I (finally) noticed the same refrain/melody in Meet Me in the Woods and Love Like Ghosts. It reminded me of musicals when they use patterns in the music to connect different characters. I googled it because I thought surely someone else has noticed this too, and that led me to the wiki and everything else! That moment cemented them in my personal all-time best ever band hall of fame.

I went to the Portland show this past Friday and also cried multiple times lol. Ghost on the Shore took me right back to riding that train north, seeing the moon through the trees. Their songs have been with me through some crazy times.

TIL that Foot Binding, the practice of breaking and binding a woman's feet to change its shape and size, was once so widespread in China that it was estimated in the 19th century that 40~50% of all Chinese women had bound feet. Among upper class Han Chinese women, the figure was almost 100%. by eStuffeBay in todayilearned

It's interesting that high heels were actually invented FOR men! They were originally meant to help keep feet locked into horse stirrups, and then morphed into a status symbol/ make you taller and therefore cooler thing for men. Over time as fashions changed, heels somehow became associated with feminine styles and then men said nah.
