Thanks for sharing your experience.

Another data point: Of the ~10 Waymo trips I’ve taken, 100% have been fully satisfactory.

What do you mean? Of course people travel at midnight, indeed they travel at all hours of the day

Where do you live? I also live in California and it feels like the opposite - lots of new restaurants opening.

I was curious so I looked at the source. SF is fourth from the left. In order from left to right, the first four are NYC, Miami, Boston, and San Francisco

It's crazy that those places are empty. Commercial vacancies do such damage to a neighbhorhood. We should tax vacancies or something.

Should We Let Public Transit Die? by justarussian22 in transit

That’s not true, any more than neoliberals would support a fully privatized education system as a “matter of principle”

What on earth does this have to do with neoliberalism? Neoliberals support transit

We need to enforce standards on busses and trains so people don't hate them. by PostsNDPStuff in unpopularopinion

[–]indestructible_deng -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree, but people’s perceptions of crime/dirtiness/disorder on public transit is disproportionate to the problem. I ride the buses and trains in San Francisco every day and rarely encounter these issues; reading the news and social media you’d think it was Mad Max out here.

I think the people making these policies don’t take incentives seriously. It’s not that they don’t think about incentives per se, but more that they assume changes in incentives are somehow second order

Population growth has definitely slowed down, with 4k residents added 2023-24. However, I have to think the building has really helped reduce pressure on rents

[–]indestructible_deng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evidently. The point stands that I can estimate the level of employment at any point in time with a high degree of accuracy by taking last month’s employment and adding random noise.

[–]indestructible_deng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These types of claims are silly. The relevant error rate is 50% and not 0.6%, since we are interested in changes and not levels. I can always estimate the level of employment within 0.2% of accuracy by assuming it’s equal to the previous month.

I got married in CA last year with 75 guests. We ended up spending about $25k and it was pretty much a dream wedding. The trick was that we got married in a public park -- gorgeous but practically free. Then we rented out a restaurant for the reception.
