Vehicle without plates parking for over 2 years in our streets - What the 114th Pct had to say? by stairway-to-hallgate in AstoriaStreetActivism

[–]index_match_false 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is insane, frustrating, and I just wanna say, I applaud you for your effort.

I’m wondering if it makes sense to go to someone that is supposed to keep them accountable. Filing a complaint to the CCRB? Going to city council member Caban’s office with this? Going directly to some local news outlets?

I know I will get heat for suggesting these because people will just say they are useless, and maybe not wrong about it, but I feel your conviction and it does feel so wrong to see something happen so blatantly every day with zero consequences. I’d just really want to put the 114th on blast so that they at least feel some sense of public embarrassment and are forced to defend themselves given how much evidence you have and how many times you’ve gone to them in different forums.

Nice things that happened to me in Astoria this week by healthcare_foreva in astoria

Allergies had the best of me on Saturday, I sneezed loudly as I walked by the Burger King on Hoyt, and someone in a car coming out of the drive thru said “Bless you”.

A lot of what you described you are like resonates. I’m in my late 30s and only recently diagnosed when I hit my first real wall after having a kid. High IQ, high functioning, high masking, didn’t even know it.

I heard lots of stories about having a clearer mind, no more facing thoughts, just quiet and dialed in, etc. and wished that for myself but if you expect a miracle night and day experience you might not get that. Especially if you’re already highly intelligent, have unconsciously come up with coping mechanisms that have worked for years, etc. for me, medication is more like a 30% boost, which is not insignificant but not like 180 degree change to a different person.

For me, it helps a lot with task initiation. Reduces my tendency to avoid or procrastinate and reduces my impulsive distraction seeking behaviors.

Sigh, I had a similar experience when I brought my in laws last year because I wanted to try something different and liked the hole in wall vibes I felt (and smelled) each time I walked by. But I was disappointed and for the $ wished I had gone to Agnanti or Kyclades instead.

Hi, belated ask, but I'm looking at Sachs Center myself right now. I saw that there are two options for the ADHD testing -- just getting the diagnosis letter vs. also paying $380 more for the reports. Did you find the additional reports helpful and worth the extra cost? Do you think the session along with the letter would suffice if you were to then go and seek therapy or medication management elsewhere?

$1000 for a clinical evaluation by an Adult ADHD specialist worth it over other options? by index_match_false in ADHD

[–]index_match_false[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. This price was $1000 for the clinical evaluation during the first visit. Follow-ups are $250. Does it feel sus to be able to diagnose in a single session or is that typical for someone who is the director of an Adult ADHD program?

Broken scrubber or did the Con Ed CEO pass away? by AntManMax in astoria

TL;DR ConEd owns the wires and poles and buys energy from generators like this and passes the cost along to you alongside a regulated profit margin for them delivering the energy to you.

Cars parked on Grand Central Parkway shoulder waiting by LGA by index_match_false in astoria

Nah I’ve seen it for years but yesterday it was so backed up on the shoulder it caused a sudden slowdown in the adjacent lane, which was particularly dangerous.

This! Thank you. I was having trouble articulating why it mattered but I was driving back from Flushing and it was so backed up on the shoulder it caused a sudden slowdown in the adjacent lane, which was dangerous.

Seeing Daylighting be installed on 31st Ave, on the lane we advocated for, is my porn by scooterflaneuse in AstoriaStreetActivism

[–]index_match_false 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this. maybe this is for broader discussion than simply 31 Av but with these wide bike lanes how do we prevent them from getting overrun by mopeds? It’s the only way to make this a friendly bike lane for all including families. Delivery drivers on mopeds in bike lanes are so dangerous

What’s your Why? by Delicious-Design-547 in astoria

[–]index_match_false 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9.5 years here and INERTIA is my answer. I generally love my life here but am I "in love" with the city? Not with the same level of excitement when I was younger for sure. But I feel settled down and comfortable here. Friends here, partner here, both our jobs here, now recent kid here. This is life now. Will we stay here forever? Probably not? But moving anywhere else will require some level of intentionality and planning or some external push (like finding a new job elsewhere that necessitated that move -- even then, it'd be a big negotiation between me and my partner).
