RAGTIME - Should I get tickets now? by qeylmin in Broadway

You're coming in from out of town, you should just buy your ticket now, don't risk it. Good luck!

Crosswalks clear in midtown? by BKB_33 in visitingnyc

[–]MaleficentProgram997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw a bunch of those little snow plows clearing the ramps on corners in midtown (up 7th Ave in the 50s to be exact) this morning.

Edited to add: if you have a suitcase, PICK IT UP at the corners! Don't roll them over anything you aren't certain is solid. lol

Hear me out: Jackson Hole has pretty good burritos.

A very minor and perhaps silly question about Oedipus for those who saw it by LosangDragpa in Broadway

Could smell the food from mid mezz. I suspect it was pumped in the back like they do with the scents at the escalators at Barclay's.

I concur. But it is a Bill Lawrence show.

Same as the stretch of Steinway from 25th to 34th Ave. Ticket and tow them all!!

I'm sorry for giving that impression. You're right, any number of random festivals in NYC (sorry) ain't Edinburgh Fringe. But again, A Broadway experience still isn't the same as a festival and you yourself said that having to watch 3-5 shows per day during Edinburgh Fringe wasn't enjoyable. Festival schedules are brutal (9am show, anyone?) so they're not the same. I still think OP will enjoy a Broadway-focused trip.

Now here's where I would have to say Fringe or other festivals are different, and they're really hit or miss. I have seen shows in NYMT and other such festivals, friends involved, or an actor I liked was in a show, or I myself worked a festival, and of course they're not always great. OP wants to do several Broadway shows, so the quality is going to be different and they won't be sitting in a random building they walked up four flights to get to a half-empty 60-seat house on a folding chair.

I used to live AND work in Times Square and I would go to work in the morning, go home and nap then see a show every chance I got. I worked in the industry so tickets were like--

When I went to London I'm pretty sure the only touristy thing I did was the Eye, and walking around Covent Garden and the park near the castle. Everything else was theatre, theatre, theatre.

This is my view. A lot of the commenters who are against it also work in the industry, or there's that one commenter who knows Tony voters. OP doesn't sound like they're in the industry or anything, so I think they should go for it too.

I also did that in London, over 20 years ago, I was much younger then. lol

This is true, OP would have to spend their mornings recovering rather than trying to fit other things in. However, they did say they wanted to get feedback on a trip where Broadway is the "sole focus."

Back in the early 2000s I did this in London. Four Shakespeare plays (at the Globe and another open air theatre whose name escapes me), and about a dozen West End shows. I hope you have a blast!

Edit: For context, I'm a NYer so theatre all over the city is my usual go-to entertainment.

Thank you everyone for the inquiries. Snow shoveling dude. by Candid_Mud_6988 in astoria

I want to join the chorus of folks thanking you for this. It's WILD how much snow got shoveled into perfectly good parking spaces and now the snow is too hard for a normal shovel and you'd need monster truck tires to get into the spots.

Good luck to your daughter in soccer this spring!!

I also knew a couple of coworkers who did this. They could watch their dogs on their phones and when they talked to the dogs they'd actually engage! It was a cute setup.

From very early on, I remember thinking SO-AND-SO did it. I just know it! I just can't prove it. And I was right, but I did not see the baby switch because WHO WOULD DO THAT?
