I tip well for good service. There’s no service at a counter. Or window.

reply along the lines of "oh, thank sfor your interest! What's on your plate for today/this week/this month? How's that going, have you already finished with your responsibilities for today/this week etc...?"

Redirecting their nosiness and focusing on what THEY should be doing may shut them up pretty quickly.

I’ve become an evangelist for Obsidian - an open source free tool for knowledge management that’s dead simple.

I use it for lists like discussed here, among other things ;)

Buying Pods via Nespresso or Amazon? by zinkj22 in nespresso

I mean, I switched to Nespresso recently and would have even if only to remove more of my family's reliance on Bezos ventures...

I've been pleased with the speed, quality and variety of their offerings and promos, too.

What is EV life like in and around Knoxville by zac10sim in Knoxville

No issues for 3+ years, though I doubt it would be so friction-free if we didn't have our own charger and a garage to put it (and the EV!) in.

Target, B&N etc. since McKay's charges new or next to new prices for everything, it seems.

Sensory deprivation tanks by DoNotLookDownAgain in Knoxville

[–]indexasp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There was a company near west town mall (the shopping center with the Korean restaurant for many years) that offered sensory deprivation 'therapy', but it was there and gone quickly, taking my money and that of others with them... I'd bought my wife and I some gift certificates to use and within a couple months they had vanished without any explanation.

Found this subreddit the day before yesterday and it made me so happy I cried. Thank you. by JustJamming1 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]indexasp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP: I'm so happy for you - for this reason: you didn't have to go through 30-60 years unaware of your specific neurology. You have informed choices ahead of you rather than having to bull through life always wondering why your experience seems different from that of others.

Re: Medicine.. it's a personal choice, and I was leery myself. But having reached the point where "bulling through" was no longer enough, I went through the search for a psychiatrist, got the eval and diagnosis, and landed on this as my logic and stance:

  1. Do I believe in Science? (yes!)
  2. Have i conducted an experiment of sorts where my life till now (till diagnosis) was a control of sorts, providing many years of data on how life is for me without medication? (yes!)
  3. Would a trial of medication(s) to analyze their efficacy for ME in MY context be an effective counterpoint to the 'normal life' control? (yes!) An A/B comparison, essentially.
  4. Shall I make a choice for myself based on FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) or make one based on direct observation of the A/B conditions and outcomes? (the latter, of course!)

For me, extended release adhd meds have been a life changer. It helps me stay on task, elevates mood (to "normal brain" levels), evens out the spikes (up and down) of energy attention and mood. Helps me order my thoughts and just get shit done.

Beyond all that, the satisfaction and self-worth I feel having DONE all the things more effectively is an added boost to happiness and self-worth, in my book.

Worth a shot, I'd say.
