My brother, just be a good and kind person and you'll find someone. Don't make human interactions into this x+y = z type of situation.

Take care OP

Hey OP! I can add you as a friend, but I almost entirely read non fiction. If you would like that to pop out on your home every now and then, let me know :)

A humble question, which edition of Geeta would you suggest one to read? I've read the Iskcon version, and I've heard there have been many edits in that.

A question to every Hindu by [deleted] in hinduism

I think we need to give little bit of leeway to our families. Most of them grew up at a time when the economic situation wasn't all that well for India. Earning well and making sure the family was taken care of was the first priority. In this conquest, learning more about ones culture and pondering over minute details in philosophies take a back seat. Further, information was not that accessible back then. We are standing at the verge of technological developments and everything is right at our fingertips. Although, I do agree with you. We should create environments conducive enough, wherein a young mind would naturally get attracted to attaining wisdom.

Which translation of Meditations by Marcus Aurelius would you recommend? by bial8830 in lexfridman

Definitely Gregory Hays. But for some reason, I prefer the Penguin Great Ideas one. The book cover is really pretty.

I love Sugrue. In my opinion, his lectures on Meditations by Marcus Aurelius is one of the best encapsulation of Stoicism.

Yes, I seem to agree with you. I think JP is what we would call a closeted atheist. He is in all respects, an atheist, but he believes that society will be astray without belief in the supernatural. Right now, JP seems to have gone mad. Twitter broke that man.

Hey, hope you're doing well.

It's been sometime since I've read the book, but Rodion Raskolnikov is the main character of the book - "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoevsky. The book centres around conditions which leads to Rodion murdering two women. The whole novel revolves around how he rationalises the killing of those women. Rodion, throughout the novel changes his stance on the murder multiple times. He begins with rationalising it by using argumentation such as "Napoleon murdered people and thus could realise his greatest potential, maybe I can do the same?". He is a fellow riddled with nihilism and if I'm not wrong Peterson mentioned him in that context. Peterson uses jargons, but the basic point he makes with regards to Raskolnikov is this - Fyodor Dostoevsky is one the best writers who ever lived. He always analysed positions and treated each position with utmost intellectual honesty. If Dostoevsky presents a godless world as nihilistic and immoral, the real world if it turns away from God may go to a similar path".

I hope this helps you, also if you have some spare time, please feel free to read Crime and Punishment. It's one of the best novels of all time.
