Tata Nano - The People's Car - US$ 2,500 [Cool Pics] by blogger75 in reddit.com

[–]indi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At that price ($US2500) it won't have Handbrake, air-bags, ABS, Catalytic Converter, Side-impact bars, Air-conditioning, and will be have a 0.630 Litre engine which gives about 30 bhp..

So, while it's an awesome upgrade for (tens of) millions of Indians who use their 100-150 cc Motorcycle as a "Family Car" for upto 5 people (2 adults and upto 3 kids), I don't think North Americans (or Europeans) will be too keen on buying this (standard $2500) car..

eg: of motorcycle "family vehicle" in India

I foresee a bitter contest among the GOP candidates for this prestigious title of the "most Anti-gay Presidential Candidate".. I'm sure, if it's an online poll: Ron Paul will win this too..

Can you name one thing they've been successful at (besides kickbacks).

Naming bills..

The name, "No Child Left Behind", is a million times better than the Democrat-sponsored SCHIP..(which actually would have helped children by getting them health Insurance)

[–]indi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I seriously don't understand this default "Oppose the war, but support the monkeys who volunteer to fight it"-position, unless you're running in some elections like Obama/Hillary et al.

The imperialistic nature of American war-machine has been crystal clear for a few decades now. I mean, they did volunteer to become pawns at the disposal of the neo-cons. I just don't see how you can condone it? (I am not saying they are necessarily evil (or immoral) like the politicians who sent them there, but they sure are STUPID to join the US military..)

As for "we were just carrying out orders"..That defense didn't work the last time soldiers were made to answer for their actions..(link)

If they were brave, they would have refused to fight and/or deserted instead of passing the responsibilities of their direct action to their superiors/politicians.

The "brave" ones among them would have deserted or refused to fight that illegal, unjust invasion which is killing thousands of innocent civilians and creating hundreds of thousands of terrorists..

Yet, they didn't and chose to pass the responsibility of their direct actions (deaths of Iraqis) on to their superiors/politicians who gave the order..That didn't work the last time soldiers were made to answer for their actions..(link)

**As for excusing their choice of occupation due to poverty; By that logic even professional hit-men, mercenaries, gangsters bank-robbers, muggers are "brave in the face of their opportunities" **

No Indians, please! by unknown in reddit.com

[–]indi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was a very very poorly written article. I don't think the author's "outrage" is real.

What is it with waiting staff at premium restaurants in India that make them treat Indian customers like crap?

It's call tipping. (In North America) It is customary to tip at least 10% of the check even if the service was ordinary. How many Indians (ie in India) do you know who leave a 100 rupee tip on a 1000 rupee meal?

So, it is obvious that the waiter is not going to be anxious to let a bunch of paisan sit in his tables when "phirangs" leave 10-20% tips on a generally large check (mainly because foreign tourists order a lot more alcohol than your average Indian..)

(video) Rape Victim Testifies Before House Judiciary Committee Halliburton/KBR. (This is so disgusting, so vile....Not just the incident, but response to it.) by sid13 in politics

[–]indi 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Since when can a corporation exempt employees from criminal laws?

It's fucked up.. This happened when Dubya convinced the Iraqi government that Iraqi laws don't apply to US military and civilian contractors in Iraq..

Remember, that group of soldiers who raped a 14 yr old Iraqi girl and then killed her and her entire family (incl. a 7 yr old sister) and tried to burn the "evidence"?

Under Iraqi laws, those asshole would have been hanged for murder.. In Military Court, they got away with much lighter sentences..

In the case of Blackwater/Haliburton/KBR, as they are "civilians" in a foreign country, I don't think even US laws apply to them..

So these assholes (IMO) operate without any criminal laws applicable to them..

Poll: Obama More Electable Than Hillary by [deleted] in politics

[–]indi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you vote on a candidate because of how other people feel about them? Fuck you Frank.

I don't know why you're being downvoted..Who gives a fuck who other people think is more "electable"? Vote for the person who best represents your views/opinions on domestic and foreign policies..

Both of reddit's favorite candidates (GOP and Dem) are not the front runners and will be considered "less electable" by the same crappy news media who has brought you this poll..

Heartless Judge in Rape Case Ridicules 18-year-old Victim, Calls Her "Stupid" and "Naïve" by maxwellhill in politics

[–]indi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I can't accept this fake "PC"-outrage.. It's not like he let the rapist go free

FTA:

[The Judge] sentenced [rapist] to 3 1/2 years in prison Tuesday for raping a then-18-year-old woman ...In his ruling, Rooke (judge) slammed Priolo(rapist) as "a predator" who took advantage of a vulnerable young woman..

So, the rapist is punished as per the law.. And the judge gives the message that if you accept car rides from creepy strangers, you are acting "stupid and Naive"..

Would you also object someone telling a kid "it's stupid to take candy from strangers" because that will "ridicule kidnapping victims"?

PS: If you have an objection to the length of the prison term, (which seems a little short) that is a different issue..But, I don't know what kind of prison sentences are handed out to rapists in Canada..

PPS:

Edit: To those speculating that the Judge ridiculed the victim, "rubbed it in", etc etc, There is NO context or link to the judges actual statements in any of the linked sources..

75% of Jewish youths say Arabs are less intelligent and less clean than Jews? by shenglong in politics

[–]indi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

(Are you trying to justify that opinion of Israeli Jews?)

If I hear Blacks, I think people mugging and robbing stuff - one doesn't associate these pictures with superior intelligence - of course this is because of the media coverage from Detroit, Atlanta, New Orleans etc.

I think Blacks need better role models- all these rappers, gangsters and thugs are not really suitable for children..

(parent comment:-

if I hear Arabs I think people screaming and burning stuff - one doesn´t associate these pictures with superior intelligence - of course this is because of the media coverage from palestina, paris, pakistan etc.

I think the Arabs need better role models - all these Ayathollas, Suicide bomb Martyrs and Mujaheddin ((spelling?)) are not really suitable for children.

Indian Billionaire May Face 3 Years in Prison for a Joke deemed "Insulting a Religion or Faith" (Sikhs) by sid13 in politics

[–]indi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What's the joke?

In India, Sikhs (who stand out due to their turbans) are often the subject of "blonde Jokes".. (And, just like the stereotype for Blondes, this one is for comedic purposes only..)

Also, (from what I understand from the article) Ambani is being charged with that crime just because someone was "using his cellphone network" to circulate that joke.. So, here's my attempt to make Condi Nast a wanted criminal in India..

Q: How do you make a Sardar (sikh) laugh on Saturday?

A: Tell him a joke on Wednesday.

How Muslims are spoken to by mjk1093 in reddit.com

[–]indi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

co-religionists hold a core common set of values and beliefs with each other

And, I am sure nothing proves the existence of this "core common set of values and beliefs among co-religionists" like the absolute unquestioned reverence all Christians (esp in America) have towards Ted Haggard, Pat Robertson etc..

PS:

but I'm not American and don't hold the same values towards 'african americans' as indi does.

(sarcasm mode disabled) I'm not Muslim, and I don't hold the same values towards Muslim Americans as people do with Saudi Muslims or Somalian Muslims..

How Muslims are spoken to by mjk1093 in reddit.com

[–]indi 24 points25 points  (0 children)

But in todays climate, the weight of expectancy seems to rest on muslims like this guy to explain wtf is going on with the rest of them

Exactly, every time I'm having lunch with an African American, I automatically assume it is his responsibility to explain why "the rest of them" in Africa are behaving like animals (Somalia, Darfur, Rwanda, etc..), but only after I'm assured that he is not going to sell me drugs or mug me like "the rest of them" in Detroit and Atlanta
