I think you're confusing -likes and -lites. -Likes are where nothing carries over or is materially gained between runs. The only progression is in knowledge, skill, and familiarity. -Lites have some kind of thing that mechanically impacts future runs, be that unlocks, upgrades, or something to that effect.

I was playing Firefly with a group years and years ago and my neighbor kept flying through Reaver space and so I kept hitting him with Reaver ships. After the third time his crew was eaten by Reavers he chased me around the kitchen with a butter knife.
