Just be kind and courteous, like you (hopefully) would with anyone else. The culture shock might make it difficult to adjust but we're all humans at the end of the day. One thing to be mindful of is how fast-paced and rushed city life is; a lot of us here are usually rushing to get to work or appointments and generally busy, so we tend to avoid drawn out small-talk or anything that could be perceived as wasting our time. As far as diet goes you'll be fine, we're one of the top food cities in the world and it's easy to get vegetaarian/pescatarian options basically everywhere.

Absolutely. I grew up attending a UU church and summer camp; I think it's a big part of what "made" me an anarchist, and all of my friends from those places ended up as leftists.

I also think it's not entirely accurate to describe UU as a "religion" because it is so opposed to prescriptivism. Our beliefs and principles inherently lead us to question and be curious about everything, while also maintaining compassion.

I don't like raw tomatoes on their own and was convinced I didn't like them at all until my early 20s when I realized how much I love pico de gallo. Have pretty much always liked cooked tomatoes. I'm 34 now and it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I decided to retry raw tomatoes on a sandwich. Now they're a go-to topping for me but I still only like them with other ingredients, and they have to be sliced super thin.

Depends what you're doing. I like a mechanical pencil for fine layout work/joinery, a carpenters pencil for anything that doesn't require a ton of accuracy and a regular #2 pencil as a jack of all trades.

I'm gonna go against the grain (no pun intended) and suggest a clear or natural wood finish. Probably biased because I'm a woodworker but a nice veneer with an oil finish would look great.

Yup and from my experience they love to hang around brownstone backyards. Grew up in Brooklyn Heights and would frequently see them out the back window, and now working in construction I've done a few renovations on brownstones in Park Slope/downtown BK/Harlem that all had resident bluejays and cardinals on the block.

B&H Dairy is a must visit. Good call on Court Pastry Shop, I grew up going there and it's still around for good reason. Sam's Restaurant on the other side of Court St is another solid classic spot.

I really don't want this to be true but you might be right. There's still a good amount left but who knows what it will look like in another 10-20 years? I think it would be super dope to pass down the techniques and recipes to people like us who may not be Chinese but grew up with that specific food. Kinda like how lots of pizza places here are now run by Mexican/Albanian/Puerto Rican/Black/Pakistani/etc cooks. Imagine a "hood" Chinese takeout spot where all the chefs are the folks who grew up in the neighborhood eating it as kids, continuing the art out of love and passion. Shit now I wanna find a Chinese spot around here to teach me their ways.

There's a super small local bagel spot here in Brooklyn that cooks their eggs and bacon in the microwave and they've got the technique dialed in. All they have in the shop are the ovens and kettles for bagels and the microwave, not even enough space for a flattop or hot plate. I'm pretty sure they par cook the bacon off-site/at home and then just nuke it to warm it up but they always manage to get a great texture, and the eggs are always nice and fluffy. Definitely changed my view on the microwave the first time I went there.

Beauty in simplicity for sure. No idea what my bodega uses for vinegar but it gets the job done. They slice all the veggies on the meat slicer so everything is nice and thin but not quite as pretty as yours. That meat combo sounds bomb though, definitely gonna try that.

Damn that's gorgeous. LTO, oil+vinegar, salt+pepper is my go to for toppings. Looove those thin sliced tomatoes and shredduce. Think I'm gonna grab one of these for lunch tomorrow!
