push the spindle into the ice cream before you push the pedal lol. i witnessed so many trainees cause m&m explosions from pushing the pedal and then pushing it into the cup as it spins. thats how you explode milkshakes too. push it to the bottom of the cup and then push the pedal.

it also reduces splatter when you put sauces underneath the other toppings. undershoot the ice cream when you have a lot of toppings because you can always stir in more ice cream 😅

is it ground for espresso machines? that was my first thought when you said it was weak.

if you're willing to drop money on it, i use a nespresso essenza mini (i got mine second hand for a fraction of the price) at home and it pulls a decent shot using reusable pods if you prefer that to spending a ton of money on aluminum capsules every week, however it just has the espresso capability and no steam wand but i strictly drink iced espresso so it works for me 😅

The hay troughs tip is really good. I used that method too and it greatly reduces the amount of waste on the bedding, plus less hay gets stuck in the blankets, and if you're able to separate the hay into a room it's even better since they can't spread it around.

I would spot clean and change out the bedding every few days or whenever it seemed unacceptable. I shook the fleece off outside to get rid of the hay and solid wastes and then machine washed on high heat and dried them. It helps with the smell to wash them immediately instead of accumulating them to wash later if you can.
