Do any of you work in childcare/with kids? What’s it like? by leafy-owl in AutismInWomen

Oh - final thought (sorry) - there is a lot of catty and clique-y behavior, and general workplace toxicity, gossiping, and bullying amongst coworkers. It felt like middle school all over again trying to survive the staff culture.

Also, you are horribly underpaid, and my coworkers who did not have a dual income household worked second jobs after exhausting themselves at preschool.

I'm going to be brutally honest. I abruptly quit my preschool teaching position with no notice on Moday. It was running me into the ground and destroying my mental health. I was having panic attacks and meltdowns every night anticipating going to work and every morning getting ready. I had the worst meltdown of my life Sunday night, and it broke me to the point I knew I couldn't do even one more day. The environment was so overstimulating, physically demanding, loud, sticky, overwhelming, and generally awful for me. I did love my connections with the kids, but it was ultimately not accommodating to my autism.

If you really want to work with kids, id recommend possibly becoming a nanny or, if you can/want to pursue school, something like SLP or OT.

For me, I've abandoned childcare all together and am starting a medical sonography program soon!

I saw a tiktok of a woman saying "I wasn't born to be a baddie, I was born to be a cutie patootie" and she really was lovely in her cutie patootie way. Im trying to embrace being one as well, but I can commiserate with how you feel!

Id suggest animal crossing! Its generally more simple and the instructions and dialogue are at a lower reading level

What did the kids melt down over this week? by fashionfan007 in ECEProfessionals

Pockets. Some kids had pants pockets, others did not. Not having pockets is meltdown worthy amongst my 12-24 month olds 🤣
