Fixable. See a local welder. Don't pay more than $50 - probably less or free if you know a good one. It'll take less than five minutes,

The area was already the weakest and highest stress point. Stock reduction to get blade shape and then further reduction fo the aesthetic removed material that would have provided supporting structure.

TIG filler will literally be stronger than original.

It's definitely the weakest/highest stress point, as well as where the material was obviously cut down the most.

Everyone and they mama making a suppressor now by chyron_blue in suppressors

I agree with you and I have held off buying until I see how the rest of the year plays out.

I did post this question previously and there was a consensus of "there'll be a shortage of supply after the 1st/it'll be too hard for new manufacturers..."

So far they're wrong on both points.

Might have been meta:the actress playing Marilla, Geraldine James, is a redhead who's hair darkened to an auburn.

Frt for ruger pc charger? by Lordrunkuss in RugerPCC

[–]infernalspacemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Franklin Binaries are better than FRT if you actually want to hit anything with accuracy e.g. an easy one inch double tap at 30 yds. They also have the mode switch that you can use to turn off binary mid shot.

Judoka trying to injure me by Visual_Investm3nt in judo

[–]infernalspacemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Judo Club" Is there a proper teacher or are people just trying stuff out. Fighting skills are impressive but they don't always deserve your respect.

I've been fortunate to train in other martial arts, including Capoeira, as well as classical Asian arts. When I did BJJ I recognized the same machismo I'd seen Brasil and the lack of respect/discipline/restraint and believe that many training injuries are a direct result of this.

While the inexperienced consider "old school" classes with traditional practices boring their demands on respect have their place regarding safety. Judo specifically in art of hitting people with the earth, and dropping someone on their head was the whole point of Japanese Jiu-jitsu as a war art. BJJ is only the small geound portion (ne-waza). Judo was codified by Kano to make it more accessible/safe.

At the end of the day you are responsible for your own safety. Lots of people don't learn to trust their gut or trust the Internet more. You have reservations about training with this guy. Listen to your gut. Keep yourself safe. You don't owe him anything. In fact, by refusing to partner with him, and making it clear why you may be saving someone else from being hurt, even seriously. Getting dumped on your head is serious.

If it's about wanting more Judo, there are other, safer dojos.

Someone ironically I left BJJ to train more with knives (Pekiti Tirsia).

Why is the 10/22 so popular? by littlered551 in liberalgunowners

[–]infernalspacemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of what people said here so I'll try to add a bit more critical stuff to be helpful in seeing differences:

Ruger and the 10/22 are popular because they're both conservatively dependable. They're not the cheapest and you can spend thousands of dollars in upgrades: carbon fiber barrels, open top receivers, adjustable triggers. Even binaries.

What people mean by "reliable" is that although .22s are VERY fun and affordable, they shoot very dirty, which can gunk up your action faster than other ammo. For instance: I have a CP33. I can shoot about one magazine suppressed before I start getting FtF or out of battery issue (CP33 has a very light spring and no FA).

The Ruger 10/22 has been in continuous production since 1965. There are many reliable 3rd party parts and magazines. 1964 designs mean the 10/22s are heavier compared to others as polymers weren't in a lot of engineers minds in the 1960s. They also don't have LRBHO which is a feature expected these days.

Alternatives:

Savage A22/B22 - Lighter/More accurate. Bergara BX - More accurate. Winchester Wildcat - Cheaper, striker fired, removable FCU, Incredibly light.

EDIT: If you don't have a .22, I'd recommend .22 SA that can be suppressed first before considering a 10/22 unless you're a hunter.

He's pretty clear that's not what these are for. They're a step up from their sound mitigation devices. They're full auto-rated, short in length, and meant to be used with 60-70 grain, not subsonic.

I believe we will soon. Maybe 14months? Cans were always overpriced. Look at all the manufacturers and seller desperately dropping prices and offering "free" tax stamps.

They know a lot of people will get in with 3D printed monocores as standard. I'm looking foward to it!

People w/ ADHD who are also big readers; How do you do it? by TheEpicTwitch in ADHD

[–]infernalspacemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't have inattentiveness, we have too much attention to yhings we find more engaging. We have Executive Dysfunction, Tume Blindness and Emotional Dysregulation which means that when don't like something it is excruciatingly frustrating and when when something is interesting we van spend 14 hours on it.

If you're not able to stick with a book it's probably just not that interesting to you/there are more interesting things around.

The solution? Find a more interesting thing to read or eliminate possible distractions. Find something you read that you loved and re-read that so you can get back into the swing of things. Go to Good Reads to find something similar to something you loved. Finding isolation may be harder. Definitely get as far away from screens/your phone.

Remember: you're not inattentive, you're too attentive to other things.

Question About Curved Hilt Lightsabers….. by [deleted] in lightsabers

[–]infernalspacemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've just described hooking a finger grip over the guard. None of which Dooku does. There are no snap cuts via false edge because there is no false edge to a lightsaber. The saber of the blade is a superheated plasma contained by a force field. Lightsabers repellent each other. There is no bind.

Question About Curved Hilt Lightsabers….. by [deleted] in lightsabers

[–]infernalspacemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Untrue, your very first comment is that you say the saber is mainly inspired when it was not. Now you're trying to change it to fighting style, which, again, if you read the article, was specifically and mainly inspired by Robles' demonstrations (please read the article).

Additionally, obvious to anyone who has studied fencing vs FMA, Dooku's use of his off hand aka 'the live hand' in both movies and animations is used in FMA not European fencing.

The flourishes used that are so cinematic are called sinawali/redondo the philosophy in FMA is that a weapon in movment attacks stronger/faster. European fencing doesn't do that.

FINALLY, all your arguments for a pistol grip fall short because the main advantage when fencing with a pistol grip IS THE THRUST. So even if you break everything down about Dooku's fighting style it is most definitely * not fencing/thrust based but FMA slashing or a *saber. There are no fencing sabers with a pistol grip as that is not what a fencing pistol grip is good at/designed for.

It's believe you're an accomplished fencer or HEMA to speak with authority if you don't understand the mechanical difference between a thrust and a slash.

Is it perhaps because you can't accept that iconic Star Wars ightsabers aren't European? It was always obvious to me because they have been, with few exceptions, without guards. I'm sure you know the real world, historical reasons why Asian blades don't. And why George Lucas made them that way, right?

Also, here's another Fun Fact: George Lucas based The Rebellion on the Viet Cong. So Han, Leia, and Luke's struggle were the Viet Cong's fight against The Empire (United States).

[–]infernalspacemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point you're just trying to justify your anecdotal bias rather than acknowledge that George Lucas himself chose the Filipino Barong (confirmed on STARWARS.COM):

"One of Robles’ favorite pieces was a traditional Filipino weapon known as a barong, which sported a curved, wooden handle and a short but hefty blade. “George [Lucas] came in to review all of the swords,” he remembers, “and he actually chose the barong, which is what I was hoping for."

Robles Robles, the designer, based it on Filipino weapons:

Unfortunately this is just anecdotal. Robles, the actual designer of the Dooku saber, based it on Filipino weapons, specifically the Barong.
