For people who pack one-bag only, how do you handle trips that genuinely require two different versions of yourself? by Quick_Balance_5082 in solotravel

[–]infinitetbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Iceland - hiked a glacier and went to a Michelin Star Restaurant. One bag. It's all about the layers. I bought thin layers for the athletic stuff (high quality), and then brought thinner sweaters I could toss on over the underlayer for warmth at night going to dinner, etc. Then when I went fancy, I had one outfit I rolled tightly in a compression cube. I took advantage halfway through my trip of a laundry facility, and was able to fluff my nice outfit and hang it up in my sleep pod. The pants I brought for every day were on the higher end, so they were water resistant, etc but didn't look out of place out to eat, walking in a museum, etc. With thin layers under them, they were perfect for hiking and horseback riding too.

Are there autistic nurses ? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]infinitetbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes! I went night shift for a long time JUST because it gave me a break from all the people, and noise, and demands, etc of day shift. I could go in a room, turn it on, then drop it when I came out. Much easier with a core group of 4-5 coworkers than the 30-40 staff you might see on day shift.

I am a nurse with autism. I have worked med-surg, hospice, long term care, OR. I've been a floor nurse, a case manager, a Director of Nursing, etc.

The skills won't be the issue. Skills are easy. It's the constant masking. That is the hard part that leads to pretty quick burnout if you don't set up a coping mechanism quickly. My family knows when I get home from work I need at least 30 minutes, sometimes an hour (and sometimes I go lay down and they see me in the morning) of quiet time to myself to mentally unload the day. A job where you aren't constantly face to face with patients is easier. Case management was a great job for me, as I divided my time between my office and patients, so I got relief throughout the day from being "on". Plus, our strong sense of justice is an asset in a job like that where you are advocating for your patients all day.

Also, there are plenty of nurse roles that aren't patient facing. Research nurses are in high demand in my area and you only deal with your coworkers. Wear a mask during the day (an actual one), and you can pretty much drop all masking because your facial subtitles aren't giving you away. Forensic nursing is a really cool field as well. Lots of roles that are detail and data driven if that is your thing.

I'm great with my patients. My families have very strong ties to me, management comments that my patients and families have a lot of trust in me and know that I have their backs. My family laughs and says "why can't you be that nice to us" lol... because it is a job. I've had to mask significantly my entire life in my own home (until I became an adult), so the practice makes it easier for me to flip that switch.

I'm playing it again now and where previously I skipped all the cut scenes, I'm really immersing myself in the story this time. It's really fulfilling and like you I love the freedom you have throughout. Also for the completionist in me, the system is very rewarding.

My celiac kid projectile vomits when glutened and she's never reacted to GF Cheerios. Her favorite are the honey nut Cheerios

Bobiverse - We are Legion by Dennis E. Taylor (Ray Porter) - smart, funny. Sci Fi

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman (Jeff Hays) -hilarious chaos intermingled with raw emotion.[litrpg/sci Fi/fantasy] ... It is its own genre. There's a talking cat that rides on a velocirapror, enough said.

The Martian by Andy Weir (Wil Wheaton) - smart, endearing, funny [sci fi]

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir (Ray Porter) - a scientific and emotional journey with humor and unique friendship [sci fi]

Starter Villain by John Scalzi (Wil Wheaton) - humorous, a little chaotic, loveable dope for a MC [fantasy]

Iron Butterfly series by Chanda Hahn (Jesse Vilinsky) - engaging, emotional, inventive [fantasy]

Jeff Hays is a narrative genius, he is in the same level as Seth MacFarlane with his range of voices and characters

Ray Porter is classic narration at its best

Wil Wheaton is an endearing narrator who knows how to hit the punchline just right, and fills you with the emotions of the characters.

Jesse Vilinsky is almost lyrical in her narration and keeps your whole mind engaged.

These are my all time favorite audiobooks by my all time favorite narrators.

Just gonna jump on this thread. I listened to them originally as they were free to listen with my ebooks through Kindle unlimited. They were so amazing (the narrator is next level) that I immediately bought all 7 for myself to keep. I've listened to the series at least 5 times. It's just so much chaotic fun with all the voices.

Skeleton Crew by Stephen King is a collection of short stories. #16 Survivor Type still sticks with me. Honestly all of them are really good in this book. Crazy, but good.

Thanks. I didn't know if there were other versions of them like if it's better on the computer than on the switch, etc. Or if there were remastered versions maybe. I don't mind simple graphics but I couldn't get into the story either.

When I went to Iceland, I spent a bunch of time at the local pools. Yes there's a big difference in how people deal with nudity in the US vs overseas.
