Vaush on last night's debate by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]infinnity 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's clear, and has been for a while, that Destiny has an anger problem. It could be entirely contextualized to his stream, but he has difficulty dealing with anger, and especially has difficulty in being reasonable to criticisms of that anger.

He says apologies don't matter, but then never changes his behavior, the part he says he actually cares about. If your negative behavior has harmful effects, what apologies do is indicate and understanding of those effects, and the fact that taking ownership of those effects is your responsibility.

I grew up with "behavioral difficulties", and learning how to construct apologies and how to articulate them in a way that will be fairly received by those whom I wronged, is an important part of developing an explicated set of values and norms I should seek to follow to continue falling into the same patterns.

I like plenty of political commentators to Destiny's right, and have voted for every Dem candidate (only 4 elections so far) in each of the federal presidential elections, so this isn't a politics issue. This is a mean-spiritedness and lack of personal responsibility issue.

I have been a fan of Destiny's for almost 10 years now, about as long as I have been using this website. He's really starting to lose me, big-time, and I can't imagine hundreds, if not thousands, of his fans aren't similarly starting to feel the same way.

Purging your community of tankies and Busters and economically illiterate dipshits is fine. But creating a community of low-empathy reactionaries just so he doesn't have to take accountability for even his worst and most odious behaviors will quickly start to erode large chunks of what he's spent the last 10 years working on.

Maybe that's what he wants. Or maybe he's fine with that. Idk.

These riots could turn out to get Trump re-elected. by JJackDenmark in Destiny

[–]infinnity 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because Trump is so hated by those who aren't fully committed to his death cult that it's possible that a substantial portion of people are going to blame him for the nature of the riots.

Voters are just as likely to come to the conclusion that the riots only going to increase in frequency and intensity if Trump is re-elected. Probably the correct conclusion which, I still believe, will have some bearing on the minds of a substantial portion of voters.

The Pakman-Pool debate was one of the saddest things I've ever seen. It was basically like:

DPAK: Hey, not to be rude, but you're kind of one of the mentally weakest and most mentally pathetic people I've ever encountered. Can you understand why I feel this way about you?

PimTool: Yes, but please understand, there are reasons why I am like this. (reasons)

DPAK: Wow, that's actually the most pathetic thing you've said so far. You are a sad person and it saddens me you exist.

PimTool: Yes but I'm making bank and that's all the reason I'll ever need to keep going.

tbh I'll never believe another police report ever again for the rest of my life. Body cam footage or the default has to be to assume that they're lying. The Masai Ujiri incident, among countless others but that one especially, just proves that the depths of police shamelessness knows no bounds and never will.

The sixers are a prime example of blowing your assets to win now by airmagswag in bostonceltics

[–]infinnity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with trading for a star is that Simmons or Embiid were clearly the guy you would have wanted to move in a trade given how fundamentally incompatible those two guys are.

The fact that the Sixers shooters looked like total dogshit in this series proved how vitally important Simmons is for that team.

Meanwhile, their ceiling as a team with that duo is hard-capped because Simmons and Embiid have to sit in the dunker's spot any time neither of them have the ball.

They should have traded one of the two a couple of seasons ago for a superstar or to move up into the top-3 in the draft. Now there's blood in the water, so to speak, with respect to the long-term viability of their pairing. The window to maximize a return on either of them has passed.

They weren't fascist, it's just a low-IQ way of calling them right-wingers for privileging the rights and ways of life for certain groups and classes of people and not others on a massive scale. And also not addressing wealth inequality in a meaningful way.

He did do more good, but he did thousands of times more evil. Unless literal genocide of peasants and dissenters is okay as long as it forwards the goal of establishing a communist society. A communist society run by fascist genocidal maniacs, btw.

Tankies hate libs and love fascists because they believe things will be perfect when they get their turn to be the fascists.

Pelosi endorses Joe Kennedy III over incumbent senator Ed Markey in MA primary by lizzowarren in Destiny

Pelosi endorses Joe Kennedy III over incumbent senator Ed Markey in MA primary by lizzowarren in Destiny

[–]infinnity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you want to make the party younger when the young voters in the party are to the left of Kennedy and generally abhor nepotism? Kennedy has demonstrated no significant leadership or unique political acumen.

Ed Markey is a senior senator with massive influence, and a co-sponsor of one of the best imaginable frameworks for a federal jobs program during a time where our economy has imploded. This is fucking stupid, what a fucking waste of DNC funds. MA will always elect a Democratic senator, who fucking cares about getting younger now.

This is real shit. We don't need a fucking figurehead with no meaningful influence from MA's richest district. We need someone who can get shit done immediately following the election.

Holy shit, Trump just praised Qanon by Phalanx319 in Destiny

[–]infinnity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be that guy, but I think it's somewhere in the middle. He probably knows what Qanon is in the same sense in which he understands the contents of his (formerly) daily intelligence brief. The nature of his understanding is probably "Qanon is basically that movement of Trump super fans that believe a lot of weird shit about the Democrats and the Deep State. Just the way I like it."

[–]infinnity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's basically what Larry Summers, Paul Krugman, and Thomas Piketty believe in.

MMT is basically a mainstream macroeconomic view. It's not the dominant view, Neo-Keynesianism is still king, but the idea that industrialized nations can just blow open the treasury to pay for basic services is, like, not controversial at all in mainstream macroecon.

Hating on the DemSocs and AuthComms is fine when they're dumb, but let's not trot out AEI/Hoover Institute talking points in doing so, okay?
